DIS Meet Questions

Never been to a DIS meet..........although I think it would be a really fun time to get together with people who love Disney as much as we do.

A few questions though........

Do attendees already know one another? Would we feel awkward since we're new? We're a tad shy (although not once you get us talking about Disney). My husband is reluctant because we went to a TWINS group get-together, where EVERYONE knew one another......and we sat alone and miserable. This was TWELVE years ago......but my husband brought this up the other day when I mentioned the Allentown Meet. I guess lousy memories stick with you.

I've read Trip Reports where people discuss the Meet they participated in. Maybe it's me, but everyone seems to know one another!! Do you guys know each other just from these Boards........or have you gotten together before?

I've lurked on these boards for a few years........and just recently registered for the first time.

I guess..in a nutshell......I'd like to know about Meets themselves......in order to determine if my family would have a good time. Our family consists of teens and pre-teens.

Hi Debbie! Welcome to the DIS!

As someone who has planned many meets, and also attended many additional ones, I have to say that the meets are usually a combination of folks who know each other and those who don't know each other. Everyone I met has been super friendly, and everyone seems to want to meet everyone else.

I planned a few meets for my trip this past December. I'd say that about half of the people I met during these meets I had met before, and half were people I had never met.

That Allentown meet would probably be a great place to break into going to a DISmeet. While there will be some people who know each other, I'm sure there will be lots of others who have never met anyone else in that room. You'll definitely have a great time mingling with others.

Ill second what Karen said.
My first Dis meet was a few years ago and like you I am very shy. I did feel like I sort of kept to myself(and my family), but I did mingle a bit. Even with my shyness everyone was very friendly.
Then I went to Jerry(a Boston Dis meet) where I met Karen last spring. I felt a little more relaxed at this one, but again, I didnt really know many(if any) people beforehand. Even throughout the day there were some people I didnt get to meet, LOL! But it was a great time. Im looking forward to going to Jerrys revenge in April and seeing some of the people I met last year and hopefully meeting more.
I guess overall Im saying Disers are a great bunch and very friendly. Definitely give a meet a try.

Don't believe the first part, Debbie, she is not shy. But do believe the second part, DIS'ers are great. I have met both these ladies before, and they are great. And I have met many others over the years here, and every one of them was new to me, and Ito them, at some point. Every time we have a meet of some sort, there are new folks and old folks, old to each other. And a lot of fun. Make sure to try and make the next one in your area. Best two boards to check are this one and the Community Board.

And I do hope to meet you some day.
