DIS Ladies Only Trip 2007 WISH!

Hi everyone! Anita informed me this thread was still alive so I thought I would pop in over here. I am starting Weight Watchers on Wednesday and have to do it for at least 17 weeks. My job will reimburse me for half of the cost at the end of the 17 weeks as long as I haven't missed more than 3 sessions. I did WW once before and it worked for me, I just stopped going for some stupid reason or another. I am really not looking forward to my first weigh in! I haven't weighed in a long time and I am scared at what it will be. I hope I can stick with it because I really want and need to get this weight off for my health and well being!

Even though I don't start WW until Wednesday I decided I should go ahead and get a head start today, so I didn't have a soft drink today which is a huge success for me because I have been drinking way too many each day! I also drank a lot more water than usual and avoided cakes, cookies and pie before the cafeteria closed this evening, instead I chose a pack of Snackwell cookies, still not great but better than what I had been doing each evening. I guess every little bit will help. Now I just have to start exercising!!!!!

Good luck to everyone who is battling the diet and weight thing!

I may know my way around a kitchen but I still hate to cook !!! honestly I would never cook if I was alone, I would eat lean cuisine every day  I hate cooking even more since i'm dieting and I can't eat any of my favorite dishes, I'm sure any of us on a diet find that the most challenging thing to overcome

I really need to get one of those grill thingies ! do you know what they cost :confused3

So how is everyone doing ?? it's been tough for me to get back on track, but i'm getting there and i'm starting to feel great about myself again !! it's amazing the mental high you get when you eat right & excercise, it makes me feel wonderful about myself :yay: anyone looking for some motivation ??? diet and get out and walk for a couple of days, you will be proud of yourself and feel wonderful, trust me !! it will get easier too because you will love feeling good about yourself and want that feeling to stay !!! :goodvibes

I have been waiting to weigh myself, so Wednesday is my weigh in day, anyone want to join me and post losses or gains ?? :rolleyes1

I hear you about not liking to cook for one! Lately I have been cooking separate dinners for everyone. It is nuts!!! I think one of those grill pan sets like I pictured above would cost about $50.

Tomorrow sounds like a good day to weigh in. Last night we had a bit of a party here while watching football. Today I feel bad about what I ate and about the game!

That's awesome Anita! I'm so happy for you.

I'm hoping I can reach that point. It's getting started that's the hardest. I think I'm going to use Wednesday as my weigh in day. I was already thinking that would be a good choice since if I mess up over the week-end it gives me a chance to get back on track. LOL

I know getting started is the hardest part, but you just have to wake up and say today is the day and stick to it ! you can do it Beth, I know you can !!! keep telling yourself that it's mind over matter, be strong

:

Lean cuisines, tunafush would be the only thing in my kitchen.
Of course I'd go out for pizza once a week. :rotfl:

I'll skip another week. Ate too much italian food at friends house over the weekend and I was the only one in the house that ate the cheesecake. :sad2:

Glad to see everyone doing well and moving forward for 2008.
Here's hoping everyone has healthy year. :thumbsup2

You ate cheesecake  I hate you !!

I kid I kid !!! I'm just jealous !! :rotfl:

Hi Kendra !!! I'm glad you came over, dieting is easier when you have friends to diet with ! good for you for joining WW and especially for avoiding the pop & goodies from the cafeteria :thumbsup2 water is great for losing weight !!

I didn't know snackwell cookies were still around, I have been hooked on some of the 100 calorie pack cookies, I love the sandies & the lornadoones (or whatever the heck they're called :rotfl: )

Good luck at your first weigh in ! I know it's tough to see that number when you haven't weighed yourself in a while  I know you can stick with this and lose weight !!! :yay:

Don't feel bad Christine, we certainly aren't perfect and we make mistakes !

$50 isn't bad at all ! I am going to get one the next time I head to the mall :cool1:

Thanks, Anita. You are such an inspiration to us! What I like about having the grill press is being able to experiment with different combinations. Lean meats, veggies and the 2% cheese. I think using the I Can't Believe its Not Butter Spray also helps to control the calories.

I think I will walk at lunch time. It is very warm here again today.

It has been warm here too, but very rainy :scared:

Thanks for the kind words Christine, although I'm not worthy of being called an inspiration :rolleyes1 i'm heading out to the mall today, i'm going to see if I can find that grill press !

So has anyone weighed themselves today ?? I did, I weigh exactly the same as I did pre-Christmas, so I guess that's good ! I had weighed myself a couple of different times during the holidays & I showed a gain, so i'm happy i'm back to where I was ! time to get my a$$ moving again, no more excuses or days off, I have done good so far this week, and I have been excercising again :yay: good luck everyone !! we are going to get thin :yay:

Yes, I weighed myself. :sad2:

I hope that motivates me! I am almost where I was when Kat started us on this journey last year! But, still about 5 pounds less than I was this time last year...

Let me know if you get that grill press--we can trade recipes!

That is great Anita that you didn't gain for the holidays!

Well I went to Weight Watchers today and was surprised to find that I weighed less than I was expecting, which is good, but still bad. They set my goal for 22 lbs to lose in 17 weeks. One lady has lost 30 lbs in the last 15 weeks! My ultimate goal is to lose 90 lbs, I just can't even fathom how I let myself gain 100 lbs but I did and now I have to get it off! I like instant results which has been my downfall, 90 lbs just seems impossible. Hopefully setting the smaller goals will help me.

I bought some WW snacks while I was there. I just had a Creamy Chocolate Smoothie and it was awesome! I am under my points for the day so I feel pretty good about it so far. I have done well this week, I have really cut back on eating and I have increased my water intake and done away with soft drinks. I really like to drink something with flavor with my meal so unsweetened iced tea is working for me.

Now I must get motivated to start exercising!!!

Continued good luck to everyone!!:cheer2:

Kendra, good for you !!!!!!!! you are off to a great start  and I know it's hard when you want to get instant results, but time goes by so quickly, you'll see results really fast !! I wish you the best of luck on your goal, I know you can do it :yay:

Christine, I have to say it again, you look great !!!! for you to keep your weight the same or a few pounds less in a year is awesome, be proud that you aren't gaining anything :woohoo:

I looked at grill presses today and was so confused :rotfl2: they ranged in prices from 39 bucks to 139 bucks, I didn't know what to buy, one was a Rachel Ray brand, another was George Forman and then there were a few others, do you know if it makes a difference in which one to get :confused3

Thanks, Anita. I am happy that I am about 5 pounds less than last year when I started. So, If I can do that again for next year...it won't be as much as I want, but it will be something.

I don't have an electric grill press. I am not sure that I want one. I have a grill pan that is heated on the stove like any other pan, (covers 2 burners actually) a round griddle, and a grill press which is just a heavy thing to put on top of the sandwich. So, I put my sandwich on the grill pan, then set the press on top of it. For the money, this set up gives more versatility because I also like to use the grill pan without the press. I have been making chicken and grilled veggies, and salmon for Mark. Very tasty way to prepare the food, and very little added oil needed. I have had a couple of grill pans and have eventually thrown them out due to not being able to get them clean. My latest has a non-stick coating and that is making all the difference in the world.

So, I know a lot of people just love their Forman grills and the like, but I would recommend a set up like the one I pictured the other day.

Okay. I just looked on Amazon. Look under home and garden and put in grill press. There are a bunch that are reasonably priced. You can get an idea what you are looking for from there and then look for a grill pan and maybe a griddle to go with it. There is a Calphalon Kitchen Essentials set for $40 which looks nice, but I wonder if the press is heavy enough...

I have Lodge pre-seasoned press. I have really liked it.

Congrats on a great start! You can do it!
If I lived near you we could Wii together for a little excerise. ;)

Christine, you're ahead from last year, and it will only get better this year! :yay: :yay:

Hi Wendy, good to see you !! where the heck you been and why do you keep hiding from us  I'm trying to get back to my routine too, it's still kind of hard though because my kids are still off school, I need everything to go back to normal :rotfl: I did really good yesterday, so hopefully I can keep that up !!
I'm just really bad about coming online and hanging out. :sad2: I have to say I went to the gym today for a class and I was just noticing how great I felt. :woohoo:

Okay, I know this is a bit long, but I just read an article I thought I would share with all of you.
Christine, Thanks so much for the article.

Guess what I did?

I went through my cabinets and fridge and threw out all the sweets!
Little Debbies, cookies, ice cream, cinnamon rolls, etc. We had way to much of it!!!
Mainly from holiday stuff. I made Ruben take some candy we'd been given into work, and all that's left are some bags of chips which I'm also going to make him take into work.

The only treats I'm going to keep in the house for the kids are Jello cups and those fat free pudding cups. Oh, and sugar free popsicles and fruit snacks. None of those are that bad, and they don't tempt me anyways.

I might buy some of those 100 calorie snack things when they go on sale, since the kids do still want to snack after school and for their lunches.

So it's one small step in the right direction........
Beth!!!! That's great! It takes a lot of will power to get rid of all the junk that accumulates in the cupboards. I try to buy snacks that I know I wont eat also. :rotfl: I also like thos 100 calorie pack. But you gotta be careful with them cause it's so easy to have more then one. (speaking from experience)

Anita, that is a great accomplishment.

 Dont worry about this week. Just learn from what you did wrong this week and try not to do them this week. :thumbsup2

:woohoo: You've got a lot of willpower lady. Wish I had as much. :teeth:

Dont look so shocked that I'm posting Ladies. :lmao: Found a qoute off of Jenny Craig that I wanted to share with you.

Less looks like more
Use smaller plates - psychologically, it will seem like you're enjoying a lot more food. And keep in mind that an additional 100 calories a day may not sound like much, but it can translate into 10 extra pounds a year. Keep this in mind the next time you're tempted to "supersize."

I have not hoppd up on the scale in awhile. I meant to today at the gym and forgot. I will join you though for Wednesday weigh-ins. :woohoo:

:goodvibes
Congrats on a great start! You can do it!

Christine, you're ahead from last year, and it will only get better this year! :yay: :yay:

Thanks, Joanne. Wish I were around to Wii with you too. How are your arms feeling lately?

Wendy, it is nice to hear you are feeling great!

Anita, don't beat yourself up. You are probably building muscle with all that walking on the treadmill. From onemorebite.com:

Fat is bulky and lumpy so if you carry an extra five pounds of fat, you'll be lumpier than with five pounds more muscle. A five pound pile of fat will take up more space (volume) than a five pound pile of muscle; but five pounds is still five pounds, so for those of you that don't "get" English, you cannot say one thing weighing a certain weight weighs more than another thing at that same weight. It's a common joke to play on an 8-year old. The correct way to state the muscle weighs more than fat scenario is, "Muscle is heavier by volume than fat."

A woman weighing 150 pounds with 19% fat will look much smaller (and be much healthier) than a woman at 150 pounds with 35% fat. They weigh the same, yet the composition is different. Because muscle is more dense than fat the person with less fat and more muscle will look smaller.

Stop being so obsessed with body weight and start paying attention to body composition. How much body fat do you have compared to muscle? Simply seeing how much you weigh isn't very helpful.

I was just reading back and I had to agree with this. My brothers are both body builders, as in go to competitions and win, body builders. Just to give you an idea. My brother Matt is more into it and is the better example. If you were to look at a height & weight chart, or to try to put in the BMI calculator, he comes up as obese/morbidly obese. The kid has something like 2% body fat, so he's certainly not morbidly obese. So I know it's like 3 weeks after Debbie originally posted that but she makes a really good point. And if you want to see the freaky bodybuilder pics, PM me and I'll give you my myspace account info and you can check out his page, it's crazy

Okay, I know this is a bit long, but I just read an article I thought I would share with all of you.

Researchers say the protein in eggs increases satiety and decreases hunger, helping women eat fewer calories throughout the day. "Eggs are a perfect protein source because they have all eight essential amino acids," Grotto says. "And recent research debunks the idea that they have adverse effects on the heart."

Best way to enjoy them: Try 'em for breakfast.

On this note, I'll share Ryan's new favorite meal (adapted slightly from Men's Health)

Take a frying pan (mine is nonstick) and spray it with Pam. Throw in a handful of mixed color peppers (I bought a big bag of frozen peppers from Trader Joe's).

Cook the peppers til they are cooked but still a little crunchy.

Place the peppers on a plate and toss in three eggs and about a tbsp. of milk, scrambling the eggs as they cook.

Sprinkle on some Chili powder (and for Ryan I add hot sauce sometimes, or sometime's Emeril's Essence) and stir the chili powder and peppers into the eggs.

Open two pita pockets and spoon the egg mixture in.

The eggs keep you full, the chili gives it a little kick and I forgot what the peppers do, but it was something good, LOL. Oh and pitas because they're low in carbs (and if you're weird like us, they don't have high fructose corn syrup).

This is one of the few meals that he can eat at home in the afternoon and it actually carries him through til his lunch time. Usually he is looking for something to eat before lunch time. I don't eat eggs so I can't vouch for it but he says it's great.

Guess what I did?

I went through my cabinets and fridge and threw out all the sweets!
Little Debbies, cookies, ice cream, cinnamon rolls, etc. We had way to much of it!!!

Good for you!! :woohoo: It sounds like you had a big project! My kids only get junk if I bake it from scratch, so, um.... not too often. Maybe once a week at most but really, who needs cookies and stuff every day? Just think, now if you ever let them have those things, they will be such a huge treat!

So I was feeling somewhat good about myself. I went to the DR last Friday, I have yet another UTI & kidney infection  The nurse made me weigh myself and I actually told her the real number (she had her back turned and writing my bp in the chart, so I could have lied :rolleyes1 ) but I didn't, and I didn't even take off pounds for clothes and shoes like I wanted to.

So I sit down and I am feeling all dejected and she tells me I am DOWN 11 from my last visit. WHAT?!?!?!?! :woohoo: I was feeling pretty good about that since we've been eating a TON of takeout lately, spinach dip has been my staple food group

but then today I went out shopping for jeans and WOW, what a smack back into reality that was :sad2: Something about seeing yourself in a full length mirror in bad lighting wearing just a bra and undies :scared1: It was horrible. I really hate shopping for clothes, especially jeans. I don't really like pants anyhow, and it is impossible to find jeans without the stupid stretch in them but the way I looked was by far the biggest obstacle. I am tired of it. So here I am, I need to buckle down and get serious. Of course a big candy fundraiser just came home with K the other day and we had to pre-pay. I may just send the whole thing to work with Ryan and hope he sells it and if not figure that the money is spent anyway and better for it to be an addition to someone else's thighs and a s s and not mine, right?

Thanks, Anita. I am happy that I am about 5 pounds less than last year when I started. So, If I can do that again for next year...it won't be as much as I want, but it will be something.

You know, I have had 2 george forman grills that I ended up throwing out, i'm wondering if I would even use a grill press since the lean cuisine's are already made and sometimes you get really great sales on them :confused3

This is probably a stupid question, but where do you even get the bread they use for panini's, is that in a grocery store ?
