DIS Girly Weekend 2011 ~ Cardiff, 7th/9th Oct ~ IT'S TODAY !!

I've just noticed that Trainline have the price of rail tickets on now for our dates. I'm probably going to be getting the 11.30am train from Birmingham New Street to Cardiff Central (arriving around 1.30pm), then my return will be the 11.45am (arriving back in Brum around 1.40pm). If anyone else has to go through Birmingham, then let me know and we can arrange to meet up. Btw, the cost is £39 return :)

Great news hon, dont forget I can pick you up from the Station as I have that Friday off.:goodvibes

That goes for anybody else that is coming into Cardiff Rail Station, I can pick you up and take you to the hotel to save on taxi fare:goodvibes

Is there anyway you can break your journey up Claire ? Say get a train to me (Nuneaton), then I'll get Paul to drop us in Brum, then we'll get the train from there ? I know it will take a lot longer, but it might be cheaper ? :)

I've just checked and it's £104 return to Nuneaton so by the time I add the £39 return to cardiff is just as expensive. :guilty:

Thanks anyway hun.

I've booked my train tickets :thumbsup2

Claire, that price is just shocking so early out :scared1: Have you tried the Trainline to purchase them? I've managed to get tickets from Manchester to Cardiff Central for £41.00 return! Granted, I've got to make my own way to Manchester, but I think I can manage that, I'm not too far away.

 I'm stunned at the difference hun, that's just awful! :( I don't know any other train websites you could try either. Is that running on Virgin trains?

London to Cardiff with National Rail Enquiries is coming up as £64 return, which station is your closest?

I've tried several & they all come out about the same. No it's not Virgin, our local route is First Capital Connect.

My local is Hitchin, which takes me into Kings Cross. Then I have to get the tube across London to Paddington, then train from Paddington to Cardiff.

Have you tried pricing it seperatly Claire? Local station to London then London to Cardiff
I travel down to the South coast a lot from Bolton and sometimes find its about £30 more to go from bolton via manchester as from manchester as my starting station and it only costs about £3 between the 2. Play about with times/nearby stations and you'll be surprised what you might find.
I also often find it cheaper doing 2 singles rather than a return

Going through National Rail Enquiries which takes me to the Great Western site, if you state which train times you want you can get return for £71.

:)

Ive just done a quick check for you Claire on National rail and
Hitchen to Kings cross - £13.50 single or £26 return
london- Cardiff £44 single - return £64

So approx £90 - still not cheap but better than you got first time

I checked it as separate tickets too, still need to add on about £10 to get from Kings Cross to Paddington return so about £100 but it still saves about £40. :thumbsup2 Thanks for looking. :)

Just be aware that you are then restricted to the train times you have bought the ticket for, although it looks like they give a nice long time to make the connection via the Underground :)

In case you arent aware as well - if your journey involves crossing london you just use your normal train ticket on the underground you dont need to buy an extra one

By the way girls, if anyone else is interested in joining us, then the links to the hotel are on the first page, come along, it's going to be lots of fun ::yes::
