DIS-functional Wonder Peeps Part III revisited

For those of you that do not know today is Linda's surgery at 2pm, I will let everyone know how it goes as soon as I can...

Mornin' peeps! What's happening?

Glad you had fun makin' the rest of us jealous Miss Betsy! I still got 6 months & 6 days to go until our vacation.

Filling out paperwork today for this 6th grade camp thing (I've been putting off doing it). Gotta go by the pediatrician to get his med form signed.

Also signing DS up for some summer camp time today (:scared: more $$$). I am going to try a different place that I've heard a lot of really good things about from some neighbors. It's called Camp Sonshine! (yes, sonshine not sunshine.) It is just a mile or so down the road so it will be convenient if I find a job and I could sign up for before & aftercare later if I need to. The sessions run in 2 week long segments so I think I will sign him up for 3 of them which will give him 6 weeks of camp. I called yesterday - they still have a couple of slots left for his age group (he would be in a 6th grade / 7th grade group that only takes 44 kids). I think I will let him start the summer doing nothing. It's just such a big expense and I think he can handle being home (possibly alone) all day for a couple of weeks. Then he would do 6 weeks at this camp and that would get us thru to vacation in August. We come back from vacation on a Wed. and school starts the following Monday so that only leaves him for 2 days of nothing at the end of the summer. In the first and last of these 3 sessions that I'm looking at they go to either 6 Flags or Kings Dominion for an entire day. He will like that I think. They also have an overnight night once per session (on the first Friday of each session - the day they do these big field trips). They go swimming in Rockville I think twice a week and go to their main campus in Silver Spring once per session for some expanded activities. I think it will be a nice variety for him. Some of the other kids his age from here in the neighborhood are going to the middle session - so he'll know some kids in that one.

If I am still not working I will take him to summer swim team practice at 7:30 in the mornings and just pull him out like 15 min. early once we get to the first session of camp. The drop-off for this camp is 8:45-9:15 and practice is until 9:00. So I think if I pull him out 15 min. early we'd have time to get him changed and over to the camp by 9:15. If I am working by then and can't take him to morning practices then he'll just have to get by with the Tue & Thurs evening ones. Won't know this routine until we get to summer.

OK, well, have forms to complete...

For those of you that do not know today is Linda's surgery at 2pm, I will let everyone know how it goes as soon as I can...

Did not know about this! What exactly are they doing?? Last I heard (read) she was having a consult! Hugs and hugs and hugs!! Keep us posted!!!

I didn't know that either!!

I am saying my prayers for you all!

Thanks everyone for the prayers and pixie dust. Linda did well with the surgery, the removed her appendix and drained a cyst she had on her right ovary, there was no sign of Chron's on the outside of the bowl. So the doctor is pretty confident that all the pain she was having was from the cyst, after all the other doctors told it's not the cyst, but tomorrow will tell more, when we see how she is feeling. Thanks again everyone for you continuing support our family grately appreciates it....

Morning peeps!

Sean - so glad to hear that Linda is hopefully on the mend!! She deserves a break from her illnesses.pixiedust: I am glad you found another doc - let's hope he knows his stuff!

Now, let's get Steve better again too! Hope everything in Southern Virginia is improving too!

We gots some NICE weather here this week (60's)!! More like late March out there...it's supposed to cool off on Sat. tho and maybe snow a little again... We HAD been kicking around the idea of going skiing with our neighbors this weekend one last time - just a day trip to that local mountain up in PA...our ski season here is pretty short ya know. Not sure now tho with it being so warm this week. That's what happened last Feb. It got warm right before we went so it was slushy during the day then it froze up at night and got icy.:sad2: Was talking to someone the other day who's skied "out west" (in CO or something) and he was talking about the diff. between here & there. We are so icy and the SOUND from the snowboarders is horrifying. I HATE the snowboarders. When they come up behind you here there's this SOUND. It's a crunchy, loud KKKKKKKKKKHHHHHHHHGGGGGGHHHHHHH. They scare me. ANYWAY, he said there IS NO SOUND "out west" bcuz ya'll have all this powder. That's just such a different concept to me. No sound. No crunch. No ice!!! Anyway, guess we'll watch the weather & the webcams up there & see what happens on Saturday. Then we'll play going on Sunday by ear. Even tho I still have a scab on my ankle & my toenail is blue (I think to STAY) I would like to get out one more time b4 the winter is over.

Congratulations Betsy! That's very cool.:thumbsup2

VERY windy here today (like 50 mph). Heard that tractor trailer trucks are being blown off I-81 (that's a N / S interstate not too far from us).

DH has class until 9:00 on Wed. :headache: Stoopid AI does not need to be 2 hours long! Went to bed LATE (midnight) by the time we watched AI and then LOST on top of that. Gotta say they put thru a couple of really, really annoying people this year on AI. That Tatyana & that whiny guy who cries like he's hormonal. Oh My! Then there's that Norman freak. IMO I think they're only thru for the drama aspect. LOST is pretty good this year season...but so tired watching it that late...

Watching the Today Show...Natalie Moralis is in Vancouver for the 1 yr pre-winter Olympics...the ski trails at Whistler are so WIDE!! Wow! Beautiful. Not like here where you feel like you're in this little alley and that you could go over the edge of the mountain!:rotfl: Still watchin' the forecast for this weekend. I looked at their webcams last nite for Liberty Mtn. They still got some snow left but I'm sure it's sloshy...hopefully it will be cold enough again by Fri. night & Sat for them to make some more if we decide to go on Sunday. :headache: I priced the lift tix too. HIGH for the holiday weekend for an 8 hr. flex tix. Like almost $175 for the 3 of us:sad2: (I have heard it's also cheaper "out west"??) If we go with our neighbors they have to rent equip. so we'd need to get there EARLY since it's a holiday wkend (like by 8:00 when they open) or else the rental line will be ridiculous. I am really glad we don't have to do that part any more. Anxious for Sat to decide what to do.

I've skied in Whistler and the runs are great. Too bad the people there aren't. (Had people YELLING at us to get back on easier runs. OK, we were slower than most people but that's just rude.)

Glad to hear Linda is on the mend!

We are thinking of moving Cas to a private school. The mounds of homework are ridiculous at her current school and I am tired of teaching her half of the stuff because her teacher doesn't explain it. The potential new school is really nice but HOLY GUACAMOLE it is expensive! This is not a good time to be paying out that kind of money but if she is happier and learns more/better is it worth it? Opinions?

:rotfl2: Wonder what they'd yell at ME?!

Glad to hear Linda is on the mend!

Sean - update again please! TIA!!

Hummm...sorry. Never been a big fan of the private school thing. I guess 'cuz we're quite lucky in that we have very good schools here for DS. But he also has MOUNDS of homework. Always has. Right now he gets home between 3:50-3:55 every day and it's around 5:00 now. He has been working on math non-stop for this entire 2 hours!! That is just 1 subject. He also will probably have Reading & English homework too. I try to get him to start with the most difficult first. They say what is it, 10 min. per grade is the recommended amount or something, right? By the time EACH teacher is done assigning their homework it's like they EACH assign an hours worth. I don't know. But you are not alone. He had a lot last year too in 5th grade. But 6th grade definitely has even more!! He also has several hours worth of HW on the weekends. READING! OMG! He has novels to read in English and packets to complete and then he has a book he reads in his Reading Class...and work to go with that... THEN he is supposed to do "independent reading" every day and complete a log for THAT. So he is constantly reading in 3 different books!! It's INSANE! He used to LIKE to read and is in a GT class for it...but now they've made it a chore and he no longer picks up a book just to pick up a book.:sad2: This is the last year for "Reading" as a subject tho. I am glad for that. He will hopefully go back to enjoying it then.

At this point, the school year is 1/2 over. Doesn't she move on to MS next year?? I wouldn't move her now. I would say "chin up! you can do it!" You're almost there now!! Save the big bucks for college!! But that's just my thoughts. And how do you know she still wouldn't have a ton of homework? What does that say? :confused3 I don't know. Good luck!!

Cheri - my friend Chris has her son in private school and he comes home every night (including weekends) with about 4 hours worth of homework and he is 8!!!
I always tell her, you are PAYING for school, they shouldn't be making you teach it!!

Where's da peeps!?:sail:

So my grocery store ads have been running Thurs to Thrus for a long time. Like for a couple of years or so. I have been a bit inconsistent in what day I go. When I was working I always went on Sundays. Then after I got laid off I started going on Mondays 'cuz it's less busy, then I migrated to Tuesdays. I did the Tues thing for a long time but then I got "off schedule" awhile back when I tried to skip going every week (that never worked out). Anyway, so lately I have been going on Thur or Fri. I get an ad for another grocery store on the same day so I go thru & compare the two to see if it's worth going out of my way or not. So this morning I went thru the ads & cut out my coupons & made my handy dandy list. I get to the store and realize that I'm not finding the same sales! I finally asked someone what was up with the sales not matching & she told me they switched back from Thurs to Thurs to Fri to Fri.:headache: Fri to Fri makes more SENSE but HELLO?! Messed me up! :sad2: Dummies! OK, that's my beef for today.

I'm here...just busy working and well, Facebooking. I dont know about you guys but it just seems so much easier to go there than here where we have to in to cruise line, then the meets page, then find our thread. Its easier to just refresh the friends with recent stautses (is that a word), and see if anyone has anything new and exciting going on. ;)

Very cool, Betsy!

Annie have a good weeekend if you decide to go. Anyone else going anywhere fun?

Cheri, Im a product of 13 years of private (Catholic) school and I send my kids to public. If I were loaded, I would probably send them, but I'd rather save up for college and our schools are pretty decent so its not much of a concern. Yeah, that was a lot of help, huh?

Tonight we are going to a Parents Night Out with school (if you havent seen my status, LOL). Its at a local hall with all you can eat Chinese food, cash bar, DJ, dancing, and karaoke. Should prove to be interesting, especially once all the parents start drinking, LOL!

Katie: take a camera!

There could be potential great blackmail shots at the function....:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Thanks for the input on the schools. Our public schools here are excellent. In fact Cas is considered "behind" because 90% or our kids score Advanced in the state testing. (Our neighborhood has a lot of type-A parents pushing their kids).

This new school is Montessori based and I directly asked one teacher about the homework. She replied," well, we like to teach our kids IN the classroom. There gets to be a point where parents can't help their kids (thanks for that vote of confidence!) and there is no point in having kids struggle at home. Besides, I can tell in 3 or 4 problems if someone understands the concept. I don't need 25 problems. Kids need to be kids. And, we don't want them to get overwhelmed and hate school. What's the point in that?" Another teacher was guessing that, on average, her 8th graders have an hour to an hour and a half. Cas has at least twice that now!

sounds WAY different here..Kate has about 20 minutes per class (3 class) and is usually done during aftercare..

We aren't going out tonight...I am making steak, crabcakes (first attempt at these) mushrooms, potatos and for dessert

Can you send some dessert my way! Looks yummy!

We are going real wild and doing take out from Applebees.

And if you havent seen, I have pics from last night up on FB. It was a good time...good food, good drinks, lots of laughs....and a little head ache and sore throat this morning. ;)

Those desserts look FABULOUS!!! Really. I can't look any more. Alls we got here are miniature snickers.

We have not discussed dinner for tonight yet. I have some coupons for Burger King but I was sorta thinking Chinese. Gotta go thru my coupons & see if I have any freebies we can take advantage of somewhere!:rolleyes1 I am pretty sure we have some coupons for Chinese - like free egg rolls or free fried rice or SOMETHING. Had Ramen Noodles for lunch...is that too similar to Chinese?:confused3 I guess not if we do things that come with rice, right? I don't know. We used to do a fair amount of takeout from Applebee's. We are not fans of their entrees but I used to like one of their sandwiches. It was a chix sand. with jalapenos. But they dropped it off of their menu a long time ago & we stopped calling them so much. We have a discount card we bought from the neighbor's kid to support the HS athletics or something...can get a free 2 pc dinner with the purch. of a 3 pc dinner at Popeyes. Add a kids meal for DS and we can get out of there for about $12 or $13 - and that includes 2 sodas!! $15 if we add a small onion ring!! So :woohoo: whoohoo for Popeyes on V-Day! It just might make the cut. OH, and DS got a coupon for a free 8 pc nuggets at Chic-Fil-A from his school for making honor roll....Oh boy do we have some tempting choices for V-Day dinner!:lmao: What to do...what to do.:confused3 Chicken, chicken or chinese?!

OK, now off to look at these revealing pics of Katie on FB!
