Cheri - take it from the ORIGINAL tightwad!! TIVO is WONDERFUL!! OMG. We have 1 TV that doesn't have one (we have it on 3 others) and we can't STAND this one (it's the one I have here in the Study. Drives me NUTS all day that I can't rewind.

Well, looks like it's GO PITTSBURGH in the Superbowl! LOTS of Steeler fans here ya know...lots of Pittsburgh transplants in this area... The Superbowl party will be at a Steeler fans house this year...so it will be CRAZY!

Can anybody else see my ticker or is it only ME that sees it? I am tracking Air Tran airfares now...they released their Aug. schedules. Got a fare alert for $129 RT direct and when I went to BOOK it said it had gone up to $454! That ain't right! I just might end up booking one way and watching for the other direction (1 was cheaper). Is that a nutty thing to do? When I looked earlier today (before the football party) one direction was only $54!! Hummmm...

Sean, I'm so sorry to hear about Linda, and your grandmother. Prayers to you all.
That sucks about your job. I hope it's just temporary and it doesn't last long. Steve sends his best wishes and pixie dust to you all as well.

It's been cold everywhere (okay, other than where RJ, Cheri and Johnna are!!) We got down to 4 degrees Friday. We may have some snow flurries here tomorrow.

Traffic has already started getting heavy around here for the inauguration. Hotels are all full, and we are 2 hours from DC. Annie, I'll be it's getting bad up there too. They are expecting back ups to start around the state line sometime tomorrow night/Tuesday morning.

For those of you who have asked, Steve has his surgery on the 6th at Duke. We'll be down there for a few days starting on the 5th--not sure how long he'll be in the hospital. At least 3-4 days, maybe a few more. He's having a cranial bypass surgery, which is pretty serious. I'm trying to get him in at Johns Hopkins for a 2nd opinion prior to having the surgery. we are still fighting with the insurance co for his disability payments--they are really morons there! I'm so sick of the insurance company and paperwork.

I never did send out our Christmas cards. I feel so lame!

Annie, any more luck on the job search?

How the heck have you guys been on the left coast? and the FL peeps?--it's been pretty cool for FL.

I haven't done much back reading to catch up on everyone, so if I missed anything I'll be reading soon.

SueEllen - I hear ya about the traffic! I don't want to go further than the bank (a mile up the road) tomorrow with what the traffic is going to be like around here. DH had to go to Springfield again today to deal with some of that water pipe break problem...he's just hoping he doesn't have to go again TOMORROW!!

Well, I have one bright spot to report...I got our flights booked for August for CHEAP!! I have faith that we will get some sort of room at VB when I call on Friday...so last night before I went to bed I decided to grab the return flight we wanted on Air Tran that was showing up on a "web special" for $54 ($65 with taxes & fees). I had called on Jan 5 to get my $112 credit extended but it wasn't showing up online...so I had to call. Turns out they had to do a manual override. AND since I had to call to book it I asked if they could waive the normal $15 per ticket fee they charge to book it over the phone...yes! But it took a long time on hold and supervisors etc. Midnight when I finished BUT...I got our ret. flight with seat assignments and after our credit for $99.30 for all 3 of us!! The flight DOWN did not have all of the fares loaded in yet. So I checked that first thing this morning and THEY WERE THERE!!! We WERE going to book the 8:55 am flt but it was $78 and the 7:15 am flt. was $54 so I went with the cheaper early 7:15 flight! That lands at MCO at 9:25. I hope they don't change these flights TOO much on us like they did last year. Now I gotta watch & wait to see if they mess with me again...but the bottom line for RT comes to $311 for all 3 of us!! I COULD NOT PASS UP BOOKING IT FOR THAT PRICE! You don't know how excited I am over THAT!

I think my waitlist for BCV came thru! I just went onto the DVC site and it listed our vacation as being at BCV not BWV! That was incredibly fast! I have never waitlisted before and did not expect to get it so fast!

Betsy - hang in there! At least you know it's only a TEMPORARY cold spell!

Annie- sorry but I'll be rooting for anyone who is playing the Steelers. They had the nerve to beat the Chargers doncha know Congrats on getting into the Beach Club. Warning though: you may well get completely spoiled. I don't think Chris would stay anywhere else. With the kitchen, Stormalong Bay and being so close to our favorite park... not to mention the suites are to die for! Hope you enjoy it.

OK, Bets/RJ I know the Tivo would be nice but an extra $50/month for a DVR from our cable company (if we have it one, we gotta have it on the other - my bedroom tv doesn't even get cable). Maybe I'll go over to Circuit City and see if they are selling Tivo's. Problem with that is that you have to have it connected to a phone line to make sure it gets it's regular updates. That would be a problem.I don't think I'd enjoy unplugging the whole sheebang and cart them over to the phone lines...have to check out the Tivo site

Yeah! What she said!! We have Directv for the majority of our TV's. So granted, we had to purchase the Tivo's at Best Buy...but the fee is only like $5.99 / mo. for the service then $4.99 for each box we use it on. So we pay about $21 / mo to have it on 3 TV's. We have 1 TV on cable (the one here in the study where the internet comes in) and we have another TV in a guestroom that is on an antenna. I do not know what is going to happen with that TV in a month when everything changes. It is a little digital flat screen job...and the antenna picks up a digital signal. So far we have missed all of the local "tests" the TV stations have done.

I can't believe how many people are downtown for the inauguration and THEY'RE NOT WEARING HATS OR EAR MUFFS! I won't even pump GAS w/o something on my ears right now! Call me a wimp! I don't care! Geeze Louise! It's freaking cold out there. FOOLS for fashion.

Wow that was something to watch. I was at the gym and hoped to run home before the 9:00 (or 12:00) start. Good thing we have tvs in the gym! They stopped the music and turned on the sound so we could hear everything. Needless to say, there wasn't a whole lot of working out goin' on. It's kind of sad to see the toll the office has taken on the previous Presidents. In four years Barak will be mostly white - hair that is.

I can't wait to hear how many people were in the mall watching. What a sea of people! Someone asked, "what happens if they have to go to the bathroom?" (I mean, those pepole were standing there for hours! )
