Dis Breast Cancer Survivors Part IV - GAGWTA

I am here but busy. January is the pits for accountants.

Janet, you should definitely put you and your husband first. Your daughter in law isn't just insensitive she is selfish. With all you and your DH have been through not to mention all the times you have cared for those granddaughters.
Please don't let her run the show. I sure hope your daughter who is due in March though takes it easy and has no more problems so you can leave Wednesday.

Dancind, congrats to your daughter on her job with Apple. I love my Apple devices. I never said that about any of the pc's we have owned.

How was your lunch?

Peg, I will have to put the restaurant on our to do list if just to see the fireworks. Can you book that restaurant online through Disney dining? I doubt I will ever stay at the Four Seasons but we always have a car in Disney so we feel comfortable driving to get meals. So much more convenient than busses.

Personally, I am busy making plans for a NYC trip with just DH in February. I think I found the perfect little boutique hotel just east of Central Park, Hotel Elysee.

I booked a king room with a terrace for 8 nights.

Past NYC trips we have always worked around what the kids wanted to do and when.

This time it is all about us. DH wants to spend more time meandering around the museums without parental constraints.

I think it is a plan.

Will need to get my theatre fix though. And we will spend time with my brother. Hopefully one night we will treat the parents of DD24's boyfriend to a meal. They have included her in so many trips.

Just checking in. We didnt even go to church today. The roads are full of black ice and many, many accidents. They are finally sanding now.

smiley - I hope you have a wonderful trip. You are so adventurous. I am glad you are putting yourselves first. Your grand daughters mom will just have to understand. I always enjoy seeing your trip pictures.

Cheryl - It looks like you had a wonderful trip. That resort looks very nice and peaceful. Are the beds queen?

Diana - hope you had a wonderful meal and congrats to your dd for her job. She must enjoy tech things. I am tech clueless.

Peg - hope you had a wonderful meal at flying fish. I like the place, dh not so much. I would like to give it another try, but dh doesnt seem willing.

Laurie - your NY trip sounds like fun. Hope the weather will cooperate for you too. Its been pretty snow free so far which I am enjoying.

Not too much going on here. Ds3 interviewed at a hospital for a med/surg telemetry unit. No word yet even though he knows they sent out reference forms and a friend who works there said they told me you rocked the interview. We shall see.

Dh was suppose to leave on his trip today but changed it to next sun after I reminded him he would be gone for another holiday tomm. when work is closed.

I went to my meeting and sadly the school cant continue next year unless we receive a financial miracle, It just breaks my heart.

We will be celebrating ds2 bday this week when everyone can get together.

GAGWTA. Thinking of you all.

LMP - I'm going to have to side with your DH. I was very disappointed in The Flying Fish. Now, I realize it is a seafood restaurant, but the smell of fish shouldn't knock you over when you enter. It was so strong. By the time we finished dinner, one of our party was feeling queasy due to the smell.

I ordered scallops. Never again. They were filled with grit. I felt like I was chewing sandpaper. For $40, that shouldn't happen. One of my friends got a lobster dish. She said it was just okay. Her husband got mussels. He said they were tough.

I hadn't been to The Flying Fish in a long time. I won't be going back for a long time.

Snappy - I don't know if you can book Capa through Disney Dining. I didn't make the reservation, but my guess would be that you can. The difference in the dining between Capa and The Flying Fish was amazing. Capa was SO good!

Good to know, Peg! Thanks!

I actually had a great dinner at Flying Fish in November. I had fish, and I think it is their signature fish dish. I cannot remember what the entree was called. I was by myself and did not have reservation but they welcomed me to eat at the bar where I quickly met another couple and we had a great meal together.
I also had a glass of terrific wine.

If Capa is better than FF, then I need to go there.

I do love seafood being from south Louisiana. Probably would net eat seafood in Orlando, but since we stay at Epcot resorts, it just naturally happens.

Well this is a :yay::yay:post. Ds3 got the job in the hospital!! He is so thrilled and excited.

He is going to sign all the papers tomm. He is going to have the day shift, 7am -7 pm 3 days a week. He will be on the same unit or floor with one of his nursing school friends, so he is happy. Its a med surg/telemetry floor.

His other friend also got offered a job but she took the night position. I dont know why.

This hosp. has a bad reputation but maybe ds can work around all that and maybe all the young ones can help change things for the better.

Tonight we are going to a portuguese rest. for ds2 b day. It should be interesting. They give you the endless meat like Ohana. I think I will just order a regular meal. Never been there before but the ds have with friends. Right after dinner ds1 is driving to Mass. to spend the week end at his friends for his friends b day.

I think I will have to go to the dentist. I havent found a new one yet so we shall see. My teeth need some tlc. I am sure that equates to $$$.

GAGWTA. Thinking of you all.

:cool1: LMP.... hurray!
We are on the road..... :yay::cheer2::dance3:
this was an add on day....we have to take a 45 min ferry from where we live to the mainland, then another 45 min to the border....and depending on border waits it can take up to an hour to cross! so I have learned the hard way not to plan too much or try and go too far the first day! We left our house at 9:30 this morning and checked into the hotel at 1:30 traffic was good and border was literally 4 minutes! Hubby is napping while I play on the computer, till we head out to dinner and some shopping for road food. We have found it much easier to just not take anything at all to the border and just get what we need when we cross.... the rules change all the time so it's just less hastle. I have had a really hard time working up the excitement for this trip, I literally booked all but one of our hotel stays yesterday!! But now we are on our way I am so glad we have done it....even if our dollar dropped to 80 cents yesterday! :crazy2:
Dear daughter is doing very well, she saw the dr today, and he said just keep up the resting and they will do another ultra sound in 2 weeks, so all is well on that front praise the Lord!!!!
Now there is the measles thing going on at Disneyland though!! hubby and I were both vaccinated, but that was about 48 years ago, and there was not time to get a blood test to check for immunity.... I feel ok about going, like all of you I am super conscious about germs, but when we get home, dear daughters due date is exactly 3 weeks from our last day at DL....the incubation period is 7-21 days.... and you are contagious for 4 days before you get symptoms, and 4 days after the rash appears. She and her siblings have all been immunized, so as long as she does not have the baby early, we should be in the all clear by the time it arrives. Worst case scenario is that baby comes early and we don't get to see it because I would never take the chance of being near before we know for certain we are not sick. Such a hard call..... We will see by the end of next week what is going on down there, and if it is getting worse we will probably just skip the DL part of the holiday. I feel so bad for people who have children under 1 year and can not get the vaccine yet, who have holidays planned!!
Time to wake up hubby...... shopping is waiting!!

Smiley, glad you and your DH were able to leave on your trip as planned.

I hope it is wonderful.

LMP, I hope you are ok with this storm. My DD and my brother both were fine in the NYC area. Turned out well for them.

Finally made our flight reservations for NYC. My friend Cindy and I are working on play and other activities choices. My brother is a great source of input for the plays. It really helps. Restaurant week while we are there so I hope we get a couple good meals in at reasonable prices. Pricey trip overall. Still better when I only have to cover one hotel room. No kids with us this time.

GAGWTA, especially those in New England.

Linda, Anne and Barbara - I think you all got more snow than us and I hope you are all ok.

Laurie - thanks for your good thoughts. I know you will have a great time on your trip.

We got 18 inches. Oldest ds made it home from Mass but couldnt get all the way to our house. He said the roads were terrible so he just stayed at his friends overnight in the next county.

Dh is coming home tonight. His office has been closed for 2 days but he has been working on his trip of course. He is coming in around midnight. He got the last seat on this flight.

With more bad weather predicted I am just staying in because I dont want to take the risk of falling and breaking some bone again. I broke my leg once and it was horrid and it was only chipped off the larger bone they said.

smiley - I wish I was in your suitcase on your trip!!

Cheryl - thinking of you:flower3:

Greetings ladies!

Interesting to come to the DIS tonight and see our old friend Beth (MinnieM3) bumping a 2006 post of hers on the first page, looking for another old post.
I was thinking (after my annual mammogram last week) that it is almost 10 years since the original of this thread was started. Amazing.

In our little city we were somehow in a lucky little bubble and got "only" just under a foot of snow Tuesday...while east, west, and south got upwards of to 2-3 feet. I know Linda's area was pretty hard hit. We did get another several inches yesterday and are due apparently for another big storm on Monday. Enough, I'm ready for spring.

Thinking of you all!! GAGWTA!

Hi ladies! We have been having a really good trip! seeing some beautiful sights, crossing things off my bucket list! I have lot's of beautiful pics I will upload as soon as I can.... we arrived in Disneyland this afternoon, hubby is having a nap, the drive through Los Angeles always wears him right out! we saw plenty of crazy drivers, a very near miss by someone racing and swerving in and out of lanes...so scarey! and a truck had a blown out tire right beside us and the tire pieces just missed us! whew..... so he is napping and I am posting and soon he will have to get up and take me to the park to ride Pirates and Haunted Mansion, and Peter Pan tonight. lol..... we might split a chicken dinner at the Plaza Inn.... we had to hit In n Out burger on our way and are still pretty full!
I honestly am not trying to rub it in.... I know how bad the snow has been for so many, but the weather has been a dream! sunny every day so far, temperature is between 68F and 76F every day, I have a nicely sun burned face! lol.... weather is supposed to be good here this week, there were lot's of people in the pool when we arrived :) cheers for now!
Oh....and not so happy with the new forum! My tag from the tag fairy is all messed up! wahhhh!!!

smiley - glad you are having a great trip and great weather. I am sure the driving is crazy there. My dh does not enjoy it at all either. Its funny what you said because my dh and the ds love In and Out Burger too. They even have the t shirts from there! I hope you and your dh have a great time at Disneyland and I am so with you that I dont like the new boards either. I have read all the tags are permanently gone and you need to have a new avatar, dont know much about that yet and many other things like you cant multi quote anymore etc. You can only see post counts and join date if you click on the user name. It was so much easier to see things before, sigh. I think also the forum jump on the bottom right is gone now too. Change is difficult. I dont enjoy it for sure. I guess I am an old dog who needs to learn some new tricks, lol.

Linda - I am sure you are happy withe the super bowl results!

Cheryl and Lisa - thinking of you both

LMP, first, congratulations to your son! That must be a relief. I hope the working conditions are ok.

Believe it or not, I'm not a very big football fan. (Counting the days to baseball season!) But it's nice to see everyone else in the area happy. I watched the game only because DH and DS were watching it, but I dozed off for a good part of it, lol. (DD watched a movie in another room.)

Ann was right, our area was hard hit last week, and I had to work in the midst of it. Things were nuts at the hospital. And as I write right now, I'm seeing whiteout conditions outside my window and I'm trying to psych myself up for driving in to work in a little while. I'm thinking it's not going to be a great commute today. :faint:

Haven't been posting a lot. Getting back to work after surgery wore me out.

GAGWTA :cold:

Linda - Just saw on the news you guys are really getting slammed weatherwise. I am sure the parade will be fun though!

Laurie - Just saw on tv about rest. week. I think you said you will be there then. They said it lasts for 3 weeks actually.

Just realized that my endo visit is next week, so I called to make an appt. for the blood work and bone scan. I also wanted to do the mammogram. Now they tell me they wont take an appt. unless you have a script even if its for a screening mammo??? I told her well forget it because that is another dr. and I am concentrating on one right now. Then I couldnt find my scripts, so ds 3 is picking up new copies while he is at the univ. library.

Ds1 is suppose to have a phone interview tomm. It was today but the lady postponed it to tomm. and Ds2 sent in a resume to a company and 5 mins. later he gets an e mail, is so and so your dad, He replies yes, they said, well come in for an interview. So he is going tomm. I have been praying alot.

So sat. I am going to get the blood test and bone scan and then next wed. I have the endo visit and I forgot I have a school meeting that day too. I also have to make an ultrasound appt. for my neck. I dont enjoy doing all this in the winter. The parking is horrendous in the good weather, not thinking about the ice and snow now etc.

Peg - I wish I was having weather like you!!

Cheryl and Lisa - thinking of you both

Hey, Ladies! I really need to catch up! Things have been really hectic here. I've been accompanying Kendall to doctor appointments. The good news is that the medication seems to be helping. Finally got her car back after repairs from the second accident. Then, I got a recall on mine. Spent time with friends in town for a visit. Did taxes for both Kendall and me and had to buy a new washer and dryer. And, because I am a glutton for punishment, I am going back to school starting the summer semester.

I will be taking courses in digital design, graphic arts and web design. Hey, I'm only 62. It's never to late to branch out! lol! I really don't care about a degree, but I do love to learn. I play with Photoshop all the time, but want to expand my digital capabilities. Kendall is working on a degree in digital design and motion capture, so we'll be able to talk and understand each other. Of course, she'd rather I didn't use her as the subject of all my Photoshop play projects, but she tolerates it. She hates the picture in my avatar where I turned her into a cartoon Alice! I love it! Ha!

I just published another picture book. This one is a physical book. My other two were e-books. Can't wait for my copies to arrive!

That's all that's happening in my life.

I do think about you all and hope things are going okay. So much snow for some. I almost feel guilty enjoying the warm days here. Almost! lol!

I'll try to be better about keeping up with the posts here. Hang in there!

Wow just signed on the DIS and did a double take! Big changes! I was able to quickly add a new picture of one I had hanging around my desktop of our doggie. I am a little upset about the mess of the tags, I wonder if they can be edited.

Hope the interviews fog well for your sons, LMP. Has your other sons started his new job yet?

Smiley your trip sounds wonderful. I hope you enjoy ever moment. Is you daughter hanging in there with the baby to be?

Pea-n-me, stay safe out there in all the weather. Snow is one thing, but the slippery ice scares me to no end.

Ann, I must be subscribed to the thread with MinnieM3's daughter. I was impressed that someone posted that bucket list for her. Amazing how great some people on the Dis are!

My brother is in town for a few days since my aunt sadly passed away after a very long illness, and we are all gathering in New Orleans for the funeral. My mother is sad and has seemed more forgetful and agitated, even though it is the wife of her younger brother, they are all close. I think the stress is causing a temporary bit of confusion. I am glad my brother came in for this.

LMP, you are right we will be able to take advantage of NYC restaurant week. I have been perusing the restaurant menus online. I have only made one reservation for the special chicken dinner at Momofuku, but only because the reservations are so hard to get. We are working on plays, I think we will mostly be doing off Broadway plays, including one my brother commissioned. We probably will get to meet the playwright! Cool! We are not too impressed with the Broadway choices right now. We also have plans for listening to Jazz at different venues.

Catching up at work, but every day seems to bring a new crisis. Keeps the creative juices flowing.

Getting over a bit of an infection. Lots of resting made the difference, not actual sleeping but just lolling around in bed. I have watched a ton of Oscar winning movies from the 30's 40's and 50's. Time went fast.

GAGWTA!

Snappy, it is possible to edit your tag. Click on your user name. Go to Personal Details. Just below your avatar picture, there is a field called Custom Title. That is your tag. Enter what you'd like for your tag.

Linda, Anne and Barbara - so sorry you guys are getting slammed with all the snow again. It seems never ending. I saw some Boston pictures on tv. We are having ice and cold. No stores have sand and we are down to our last bag of ice melt. I told dh this summer we are going to get kids sandbox sand and keep it in the garage because no one ever seems to have it here.

Went for my bone scan and blood test sat. Now the endo visit on wed. I always get the butterfly feeling before I go.

Also I wanted to do the mammo the same time as the bone scan. They said oh we took over for the old company which I knew about. Oh and I was the only one there. I dont know how they will stay in business. She said, just bring in the mammo script. I said its for a screening mammo and she said yeah, they used to not require a script but now they do, hmm, I didnt know about that. I guess they changed the rules again?

So now I have to go to dr. waste my time and ask him for one, sigh. Dread this. I will ask him to do a B12 blood test too. I have to get my copays worth from him since he does absolutely nothing for me.

Ds1 is still job hunting and its not going well. Now everyone wants a graphic artist too besides a marketing person and he doesnt know that much about it and he is unwilling to learn at present so that is his problem. Ds2 went on an interview and now has a call back interview and ds3 is starting orientation at the hosp. today. Only thing he doesnt like is his uniform is totally white scrubs and shoes again. As a patient I dont even like it. I want colorful and cheery!

Cheryl - thinking of you sista

smiley -hope you are enjoying your trip.

GAGWTA. Stay warm everyone, and Peg I know you are already warm!! (Maybe if I look up the Orlando 10 day weather forecast I will feel better??)

:tongue:Hi ladies!

First off, big thumbs down to the new forums! LOL, I'm not a real big fan of change.....guess it will take awhile to get used to it.

Just wanted to stop by and say hi, and a quick update........sorry I haven't been around, just been in a rather funky mood lately. Feeling much better now that we received some pretty good news about my latest cat scan. It showed very little progression after being on the anti-estrogen injections for the past two months, so yay! :yay: We will continue with that as long as things are holding steady. I am so relieved not to be facing yet another new chemo, especially after having such a hard year with the last two types that didn't work. Next ct scan will be in two months. On the flip side of the good news is that the fluid build up is getting much worse. I used to have to be drained about once a month, but now it is about every ten days. We are starting to discuss having a permanent drain put in so I can do it myself at home. Seems to make a lot of sense. Oh, and as a side note, I have a bit of fuzz on my head.....it's the little things! :)

Hope everyone with snow is staying safe!

GAGWTA!!
