smiley -Happy Boxing Day! (Sorry I am a little late!)

Lisa - hope you are recovering from your surgery with no complications this time

Anne - so nice to see you. Hoping all is well and thinking of Avery too!

Laurie - miss you posting. Hope you are enjoying your time with your bother.

Cheryl - I am sure you are having a wonderful trip. Heard the weather is great

Peg - jealous of your weather for sure!

Diana - hope things work out for your dd

Linda - I hope you are recovering and gaining strenth each day.

Our holidays were something I am glad are over for the most part. Dh work got him some free tickets last trip, so all his plans and calculations for his getting to 100k miles went out the door. He had to leave on christmas day at noon and fly from ny to sf, then back to ny and then to la and now he is in sydney australia. I talked to him 3 mins. and he is going to auckland NZ soon , sleeping over night and then its sydney, la, dallas and ny, arriving back on mon. So we had to have our big dinner christmas eve, I had to wash all his clothes, and then we had to wrap the ds presents and then we also went to the christmas eve service at church. Christmas night ds2 and 3 went to a party.

And I know you always like to know what my gift giving impaired ds got me. :)
I only asked for no chocolate, paul mitchell shampoo and a picture of the 3ds together.

Ds1 gets me bath and body works shower gel. One smells like a swamp

ds2 - got me chocolate, paul mitchell shampoo but not one of the 2 kinds I told him would be ok etc.
Ds3 gets me a 2 lb. box of chocolate. He said he didnt hear my comment. sigh. He tried to regift it, but it came back here.
Oh and dh got me a mug that looks like it has a whale print from the first nations people on it from one of his travels. I guess he thought when I told him no souveniers, he could turn it into a christmas gift. I told him, I really wanted a kindle.

Saw on our ny metro news about a house that burned down on christmas eve they thought because of the tree or elecrtical related to the tree. I looked on line and was shocked to find out it was dh colon surgeon!! This man also saw me once or twice in the hosp covering for my one surgeon too. I felt bad. The house is a total loss.

Well hopefully I can work on a dining report soon.

My new years resolution is going to be to get the bone scan and mammo done.

GAGWTA. Thinking of you all.

I hope everyone had a nice New Year's. :wizard:

lmp, yes, I am finally recovered and feeling so much better, thanks for asking. :goodvibes Glad you had a nice trip! You always have some interesting experiences! :rotfl:

Ann, so nice to "see" you!! GAGWTA :grouphug:

Happy New Year everyone!

Glad you are feeling better, Linda.

Can't wait to hear about your trip, Cheryl.

Smiley, I hope you enjoyed your time with your grandchildren.

Ann, nice to see you post here.

MaryAnn, thanks for asking about me.

Sorry once again I have been MIA. Too busy to post, but I do read the posts when I receive the emails since I am subscribed.

I am hoping some of you will post some photos of your holiday merry making.

Before Christmas I was sort of obsessed with decorating the house, cleaning and doing the present thing. I think that November WDW trip inspired me as I have not been inspired in years. Also, with DD24 and my brother being here for a full week, I wanted to go the extra mile. I was happy with the result.

We attended an absolutely stunning wedding of our niece who is DH's
God child the Saturday before Christmas at the nicest hotel at least in my book in New Orleans. It was wonderful, all three of our kids were there, all DH's siblings and his mother who turned 91 the night before. It was quite an event.

I ended up doing a lot of cooking all week, but my dear sister and her DH did the heavy lifting of the turkey and dressing for Christmas which certainly helped. Unfortunately DH and I caught an upper respiratory coughing thing that lasted far too long but we ploughed through anyway.

My brother left on Saturday and it was back to work for me, coughing or not.
We did get to spend NYE in New Orleans with my dear friend Cindy and we enjoyed a 180 degree panoramic view of the fireworks and a ringside seat on the roof of her building right off the french quarter of the official city fireworks in the river. It was wonderful, but I had to take a nap beforehand after we ate a delicious but heavy meal earlier in the french quarter.

I am a little lost this morning since DH is duck hunting and I just got a call from his older brother that one of their nieces passed away suddenly last night.

I just don't know what to think as she is in her 30's and we just saw her at the wedding 10 days ago and she appeared to be fine.

I am supposed to go to work today but I am just dazed. We aren't supposed to outlive our kids. I guess I need to share this with y'all as I can't reach DH until the hunters return to the lodge. It's going to be hard on him to hear this as he did not drive his own car to the hunt and it is hours away.

He will be back tomorrow afternoon, but I know him and he will be very affected by this news.

I wish you all a happy new year and I will try and post more often even if it is a quick post.

GAGWTA!

Still don't know. She seemed fine at the wedding and reception on December 20th, but her father who has many health problems was not there and Allen's sister said he was under the weather. I talked to DH's brother a second time and he found out that the niece passed away in her parent's bed and they would not let her mother in the room. Not sure if that was before or after she passed.

As always, DH called me around 10:30 am today after he returned to the lodge from the hunt and I was able to tell him. He has spoken to some of his siblings, and gave his verbal support to his niece's mom who only could cry.

I went to the pharmacy just now to pick up my medication. I am going to meet DD19 later after she completes a school advising appointment and spend some time with her. Time to hold her close.

Happy New Year ladies

Laurie - so sorry to hear about your niece. Prayers being sent your way.
Also hope you feel better soon too.

Cheryl - cant wait to hear about your trip. Saw Robin was there then too.

Dh took the week off so it was nice having him around (a rare occasion for sure). We didnt do anything, just a little shopping and out to dinner twice.

I finally did a dining review if anyone wants to read it.

Happy new year! Sure hope it's better than the last one, LOL!

I haven't been able to check in after my surgery; things have been crazy. Had my implant exchange and fat grafting on 12/19 and went to my sis's home for Christmas and recover. Haven't had my followup appt yet because of the holidays; I go for that Tuesday. Hope to get all these stitches out. I am having some pain on my right side like where you would place your hand over your heart if it were on the right side :). Plus under my arms where he lipo'ed is hard as a rock; hoping that's just swelling still.

I kinda hit a wall Christmas Eve and Day so I had my sis bring me home Fri 12/26 instead of Sun as was originally planned; I just needed to be alone. Then Sunday 12/28, someone showed up to buy my mother's mobile home, cash sale and wanted to move it Sat 1/3. We had not been in a hurry to pack everything up and move it out because we weren't counting on it selling so soon plus my surgery put us at a standstill. So, I had to drive back down there Tues morning myself. We got everything done some packed/some sold/some moved to storage, finally got the estate account set up (long, long story), got the titles to the house and car transferred, setting up the shutting off of the utilities and house sorta cleaned by Friday afternoon! My sis was off Thursday only, so I had to handle most of it, but she did get the moving help. Since I'm on lifting restrictions from the surgery, I could only supervise that part. I did pack some of the light stuff, and with that and so much driving, I'm paying for that w/ some pain in my right breast (when I flex the muscle) that I'm sure the doc will yell at me about, but what ya gonna do???

Sorry for the book. It's just been a very long two weeks. :)

Snappy, so sorry to hear about your niece. I hope her mother and all of you can find some comfort during such a sad time. I had a recently retired (like only 6 months retired) co-worker, 47 YO, who got home from her PT job, laid down to take a nap and never woke up. They never did figure out why she died. They did toxicology but not a full autopsy. Sometimes they just don't know; they listed hers as natural causes.

GAGWTA to everyone else. Hope I can stay a little more current/involved now that my main surgeries are over and the worst/time sensitive part of handling my mother's affairs is done.

Hi ladies! So sorry to read the bad news Laurie! that is so sad :( I am happy as always to read the good news, glad you had such a good Christmas Cheryl! Lmp... you need to just buy the items, put them in a box and let them each pick out what they want to give you! lol....hubby actually bought me something for the first time since our sons passing. He does not go out much at all and never to shop now, but we happened to be in a mall in the city when we went to Disney on Ice, daughter and I had gone into walmart and he was waiting outside for us and got stopped by one of those people with the little carts selling things....It is a very nice manicure set, I was really surprised! There is always hope! It looks like we will be making our trip after all, just not quite as extended or fancy as I would have liked! lol... we have to go into the city this week to get our passports done first.
I had a particularly hard time this Christmas for some reason, was very depressed, and then got very sick, I think at least half of it was just stress and depression but still hurt the same anyway. Youngest daughter did a good job of dinner at her place. I recovered after christmas and then we had our grand daughters here for a week, which is always bittersweet. the littlest one came with a terrible cough and cold, and when we drove them home on friday I could feel it coming on and the last 2 days have been hell for me :( right now I feel so bad the thought of leaving my bed even for a california trip is not making me happy! I know I will get better though and will be happy when we get there. Happy New Year to all, I really hope we all have more good than bad news for the rest of the year now! And LMP, I share your resolution...I have been avoiding calls to book and ultra sound and esophagoscopy ..... yuck! need to just get it over with!

Hi Ladies, here's hoping that your 2015 will be good, maybe even great!

Laurie, so sorry to hear about your niece. Her poor Mom.

Glad most had a lovely Christmas. LMP, sorry about the gifts! And Straitlover, hope your surgery area starts feeling better. Sound's like you had help with the packing up, that's a good thing.

Christmas was quiet here. Saw family members but DD moved on the 20th. Told DH, next year we will go to Portland! She seems to be doing well, but no news on the job yet.

My resolution this year is to clean out a large storage unit full of vintage clothing items. It used to be the main thing I sold and I have pretty much switched to Native American jewelry, so all the clothing must GO! Paying too much for the unit, but I'm going to need some help with this. Hauling clothes around is how I got my current frozen shoulder.

Now I'm worrying about DH, and guess I must find a doctor and make an appointment for him. He's had a cough for a while. Never smoked, but we used to spend many hours CW dancing in bars, back when they allowed smoking.

Linda, glad to hear you are all recovered.

Laurie, sounds like an extremely busy Christmas at your house.....so nice you were able to all spend time together. So sorry about your niece, that is just awful.

LMP, I'll bet it was nice having your DH home for a week....sounds like you had a very relaxing time! I'm sure it was wonderful after a busy vacation and Christmas.

Straitlover, it sounds like you have been incredibly busy! I hope your follow up appt went well and you continue to heal as quickly as possible.

Smiley, sorry to hear you've been sick....I sure hope you are feeling better in time for your trip! Very sweet story about the gift from your DH. I hope the depression lifts soon for you. Cant wait to hear all about your trip! DH and I are talking about another drive down the PCH tis summer if I'm up to it.

Dancind, know it was probably hard for both you and DD for her not to be home for Christmas! I hope she gets all settled in and finds employment quickly.

This week has been a busy one for me, medical wise. Tues got a temporary crown and two other fillings, went today for a peracentisis and they drained over 7 liters.....I immediately lost 17 pounds! Surfice to say I was pretty miserable before hand. Anyway, that's not a good thing that I had so much fluid accumulate in only two weeks. I have an appt tomorrow with my oncologist, I'm sure we will discuss it then.

Our trip was great, will post about it separately

GAGWTA!!

The dreaded week between Christmas and New Years.....

We were totally prepared for the crowds and didn't really have too much trouble dealing with them, even with the scooter. We would hit the parks at opening, 7 am many days, and head back to our resort after lunch for a nap! Then later in the evening we'd head out again. One night MK was open until 3am! Yeah....we skipped that! LOL. Getting the scooter on/off the busses usually went smoothly.

The weather as a whole was cooler than expected, but I was fine with that......a bit drizzly most days, not too bad, but I for sure could have done without getting soaked at Epcot one morning!

We really enjoyed seeing the Osborn lights again. It's just so amazing when they all start "dancing" to the music!

Had a nice yummy lunch at 50's Prime Time (the fried chicken is very good here, but not as good as the Plaza in DL.....smiley, I think you ruined me forever on fried chicken! LOL)

Managed to get a FP for Toy Story......

Having a good time!

We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside.....it has really become my favorite resort - I think we've stayed here for our last three trips. It's very laid back, quiet, and has a boat that goes straight to DDD.

We even got a few cute towel animals from housekeeping

Went to the Grand Floridian to check out the Christmas decorations- so pretty there!

Decided to try the famous Lapu Lapu at Kona Cafe.....lets just say that after not having any alcohol for at least the past year, it hit quite quickly!

one of the restaurants we tried for the first time was Yay and Yeti.

We did a lot of eating! I'll have to get a dining report put together.

We had a great time!

Cheryl, I am sorry you suffered with that much fluid. I can't wait to hear about your trip. I am to chicken to go at Christmas. I hope photos are involved!

They are small, Cheryl, but if you click on them, you can open them in photo bucket so they are normal size.

Awesome, just awesome photos, thanks for posting them.

Cheryl, I wish I had followed the thread closely enough to know you were there between Christmas and New Years! We were there too from 12/29 - 1/4. We *did* stay at the MK until 1 AM one night and 3 AM another. Everything was pretty much a walk-on including only a 25-minute wait for the 7DMT.

That week is totally doable if you have the right expectations. I admire you for doing it with an ECV!

I love the hotel you stayed in Cheryl!! It looks like where I would want to stay if we ever make it out that way again! that long on a plane scares me now....the much shorter flight to Hawaii just about did me in last winter! I do not like how different things are now, from when I was much younger.... lol! don't know how much is just aging?
Sorry about the fried chicken! lol... well worth it though right?! I love it that you were having so many good meals! and love your smiles in every picture, even the rain one!!
We drove into the city today finally, to get our passports, they will arrive in about 10 days and then we can pack and go! hurrrrrrayyyy!
But we are having issues with our ..... hmmmm now here is a conundrum someone can help me with? our sons widow....now that she has remarried....is not technically our daughter in law right? what do we call her now? so complicated :( anyway, we are still having issues with her, she always has some kind of curve ball for us to deal with. Our daughters have completely had it with her, don't even communicate with her much anymore, and would not at all if she were not the mom of their nieces which is so hard. Anyway..... she is causing problems with the date we wanted to leave now.... our therapist and our daughters say we need to just put ourselves first and just GO!! to completely change our plans because she has decided there is something she wants to do and expects us to just be on call to take the girls.... is not fair. We are trying to be gone for the anniversary of our sons death. She is wanting to do something that weekend with her new husband. Sensitivity and empathy are NOT her strong points. :(

I'm not getting update notifications in my User CP anymore for this thread. Maybe there's a glitch, and others are having the same problem?

Cheryl, looks like you had a nice time. Thanks for posting photos. Making me nostalgic for WDW, we have not been since October 2012.

Smiley, use the broken record method with her. "I'm so so sorry, we won't be here that weekend". And leave it at that. She will figure it out eventually.

DD got the job she was trying for, Applecare agent. Nice raise too, most of it COL I'm sure. Such a relief!

We are going to lunch at our favorite restaurant here, Farm & Table in Albuquerque. My nephew is Exec Chef and he is leaving at the end of January to go to the Inn at Little Washington. It makes a lot of Top 10 lists so this is a big step for him. We will miss his food though!

It has been very quiet here. I assume everyone is trying to get back in the swing of things following the holidays

Nothing particularly exciting going on here. Typical Florida winter. One day it is very chilly. The next day it is warm and sunny. Today is one of those really nice days. It is 72 and sunny. So, I'm heading to Epcot soon to meet up with some friends from Missouri. Should be a lovely day. We have dinner reservations at the Flying Fish.

Last night, we had dinner at Capa in the Four Seasons hotel. Capa is on the 17th floor with a perfect view for all the fireworks. We saw Illuminations and Wishes from the balcony of the restaurant. Beautiful place.

To get to the Four Seasons, you enter through the entrance to Golden Oaks. Unfortunately, it was dark, so I couldn't see a lot. I'll have to go back during the day so I can get a better look.

Thinking of you all!

For me, because I am subscribed to another DIS thread, which has new posts more frequently than this one, I get the email notification for it, and then don't get them for any others including this one, until I have actually gone to DIS. I have thought about unsubscribing from every other thread except this one, so I will get the notifications when someone posts, but I don't want to miss any posts about yummy food at Disneyland!! :lmao:
Yes, that is pretty much the tactic I am taking..... but now our daughter who is due on March 2 is experiencing some problems with her pregnancy, nothing too serious, she has to take it easy for the next 2 weeks so she does not deliver too soon! They did an ultrasound and said dear little grand daughter is 5 and a half pounds so a good weight, it's just that her lungs would be under developed for another 2 weeks, so daughter is supposed to take it easy, no more picking up the 2 year old!!! our youngest who is 26 is only working weekends right now, and has said she will go to her sisters house 5 days a week to help with the boys, and she has her mother in law, and sister in law as well....we were going to cancel and just stay home but she really does not want us to! So we will see....if wednesday rolls around withouth anything going on with her.... we will leave. At least because this is a roadtrip, we can be back home in 24 hours, even from all the way down in Disneyland..... because I said to hubby, are we really going to be a 3 and a half hour drive from Disneyland and not go?? :rotfl2: so we have a week booked there now..... My name is Janet and I am a Disney addict.
So happy for your daughter! boy would I love to have a direct line to an apple care specialist!! lol!!!
I am finally getting over the flu and chest cold thing that started just before Christmas! a whole month! longest I have ever been sick with anything steady....since chemo!!
Peg....so jealous of you living so close!! :goodvibes
