It's good you'll be staying in the hospital with your Mom, Laurie. I would, too. Just so someone's there all the time in case there's something she needs and nobody's around (shouldn't happen, but could, if there's not enough help on, or the nurse gets tied up with a sick patient, aide calls in sick, etc). A friend of mine had surgery a couple of years ago (not where I work, thankfully) and she complained to me later she was ringing the light and ringing the light and nobody came.
Understandably frustrated. Tip: you will be wildly popular if you bring some goodies and share them with people who are especially nice to you and your Mom.
So funny when you were talking about the culinary demonstrations at F&W. Here's what I was thinking when I was reading it: We love F&W, too, and I think some of you know my DH has a culinary degree and works in the food industry, so he's pretty into it. When you graduate as a chef, you get a Chef Medallion (like a lanyard but it's a ribbon and a gold medallion with the name of your culinary school) you get to wear to culinary events. He, of course, stuck it in his drawer after he got it, and I pulled it back out and hung it on his bulletin board - hey, it's something to be proud of, right? So every time he goes to a professional event, I say, "Why don't you wear your medallion?" and - you got it - he won't wear it.
So I
when I got to the later part of your story where your DH refused to wear his YOAMD lanyard - not surprised there!
This spring DH invited me to an event with him that was nearby and again, he wouldn't wear the darn medallion. (I was tempted to throw it on myself I was so
but I didn't.) It was actually kind of funny, he took silly pleasure in teasing me about being a "rookie" because I didn't know to "pace myself" (He did warn me, but the lobster ravioli and Angus sirloins were just calling out to me!) Once I began sampling,
I was quite full in just a short period of time and missed out on some of the later offerings. Next time I'll know better. (He used to work for a big company and always went to these things with others; now he works for a small company so usually goes by himself. Works out well for me if I'm available.
)
Very, very nice about winning the YOAMD passes. It is nice to know that every once in a while, kindness is rewarded. Man, Disney is so good at what they do, aren't they?
