Linda - That is a great pic of your DS! :goodvibes
DH posted a photo in the "Wish I was Here" contest today, and he entered one in the Goofy contest the other day. Hopefully he will start feeling more comfortable with posting pics, because he has some awesome ones. I think he is a little intimidated by the Photo Boarders, but maybe he will gain confidence as he posts more.

Maureen - I hope the hurricane activity isn't too bad for you guys! :wizard: Is the concert in an outdoor venue?

Linda...thanks so much for the update from Laurie! Glad she and her home came through it fairly well. I hope both you and DD feel better soon....a bummer for her to be so sick at the start of school :(

Laura...continued prayers for your DH. I hope you had some success today in talking to your PCP ....it's so helpful to have a medical contact that you can talk to, in hopes of finding out more quickly what could be causing this. So much easier to battle when you know what the enemy is, as we all well know, eh?

sha...does this help?? http://www.komencentralflorida.org/Events/race.php

GAGWTA!

Oh yes!!! Thanks Ann!!!!!!!!

Forgot I needed to make a ressie for the anniersary for moms B. Ca when I called earlier... we celebrate the last weekend of F&W and Festival of the Masters... 5 years?? 6 years??? I cant get it right!

Linda- Thanks for the update from Laurie! I'm so glad to hear they are alright. I'm sorry you and your dd are sick. My oldest get very sick last spring and the rapid test was neg. but she did have something that required antibiotics and after 24hrs that did the trick.

I'm not a happy camper. I went round and round between the dr.'s secretary (_itch) and the pharmacy because the dr. neglected to put the date on hubby's Xanax that he was finally desperate enough to try. Finally got it filled last night. Then he's reading the side effects and freaking himself out, and didn't try it yet. He has an appt this morning with his dr. I am going with him, armed for battle! Oh yeah, and it's our anniversary!

Laura - I hope you guys manage to enjoy some of your anniversary! I also hope you are on your way to getting some answers for DH! :wizard:

I have some happy news to report tonight. My DD 17 is a senior in high school this year. She has been in the fall musical each year of high school, but always ended up in the chorus. This year, they are doing South Pacific and the cast list was posted today. She ended up with the roll of Bloody Mary. That means she gets two solo songs and lots of time on stage. To top it all off, many of the roles were double cast, but not Mary. DD gets to do all the performances! She's on cloud nine.:cloud9: Just wanted to share a happy evening with all of you.

Merry....congrats to your DD! South Pacific is my favorite musical. :dance3:

Laura.....keeping your DH in my thoughts. I hope you both are on your way to getting some answers. And happy Anniversary!

Snappy.....glad to hear you & family are ok! I hope you aren't without electricity & internet too much longer! :wizard:

Congrats! That, in my opinion, is one of the BEST parts! I love that musical.
"I'm gonna wash that man right outta my hair!" (If I had hair! HA!).:goodvibes

The concert IS outside and we are "on the lawn" which is not a good thing. Looks like Hanna is going another direction....but Ike is a Cat 4 and headed in our general direction. We'll see. The bad thing is that my Dad is scheduled to fly to Germany on Tuesday to see my mom's family. Thats when things might get dicey with Ike. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it goes into the Atlantic. A Cat 4 means evacuation. Sigh.

Congrats to DD! How exciting!

Ugh! I hope the storms stay away from you guys! Not a great time of year for an outdoor concert, is it? Safe travels for your dad! :wizard:

That's wonderful, Merry.

Feeling better, finally, as is DD. They started school yesterday. This will be their last year in elementary, so they're the upperclassmen now. :goodvibes I've decided to take this new start to also get back into my regular exercise routine and eating better (now that summer's over.) Looking forward to a good year.

GAGWTA

Glad to hear you're feeling better. At least she got sick before school started rather than a week or so into the new year.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the storms stay away, Maureen. Stay safe.

I think I forgot to say happy anniversary. What heppened with the doctor's appointment? Hope all went well yesterday.

They said last night that they planned to start releasing the folks that evacuated from Gustav today. They were just waiting for the okay that electricity had been restored before they started filling busses. We had lots of people staying in our old Lucent plant that closed. I thought that was kind of cool.

GAGWTA! I'm thinking of you all.

Hope you ladies are doing okay today. I am good... just drained. I have my mom and I booked for OKW 2-5 Oct.. I keep wondering if I should have booked one more night. Anyways! I plan if funds are okay next week, pay for my mom as a survivor, and the do VIP for myself (even though she is allowed a guest). We may have another person with us, so that would work for her is she joins us. We are also doing a tour on that trip... and need to try to get tea booked.

I started to post earlier but had to stop.

Thanks for your concern and well wishes everyone. The storm was truly much worse than we expected, at least for our area. We have only lived here since 1999, but Gustav had the most impact of any hurricane in modern history, whatever that is.

It was all about the trees. B.R. is a big tree city, and I guess they have not been tested like this before. Even a number of 100+ years trees were lost.

Most don't have power yet, even hospitals. We are very fortunate. The trees we lost, if they had blown towards the house, we would have lost the house and maybe our lives. Very, very scary. Many trees landed in homes, in our neighborhood and throughout the city. Power lines are down everywhere. It is truly a miracle we have power.

I am so happy to have a/c. I was not looking forward to another humid night.
We had a generator for 2 of the nights, just enough juice to keep the fridges on and a fan going.

We have to get a tree guy to take care of the trees. They were very large trees and they just snapped off. Tree guys are crusing the neighborhood, you don't have to call them, they are here.

We have worked tirelessly, all of us, in the yard dragging limbs and debris to the street. You can't imagine the crud lined up everywhere. Our yard must have been noteworthy, we had lots of folks filming going around the curve in front of our house.

Not sure that I will ride another one out like this. Evacuating looks good these days to me.

DH's accounting office got soaked through the roof. He has a mess to tackle, the ceiling tiles have even fallen all over the place. They can't do much until the power comes on though.

It has tested our marriage this week. Well we made it through almost a full week under trying conditions and we haven't killed each other. That is saying something.

It sounds like classes will resume in New Orleans on Monday for DD18 and DS20. DD12, I am not sure about because the power lines throughout that area are down. It will take longer.

Thanks again for all the concern. Laura, I have not been able to get my mind off of your DH. I am worried. How did the dr. visit go, was that yesterday or today?

I'll check in later, others are waiting for the internet, and I literally have wet towels and soggy dirty clothing stacked up in garbage bags. We went through a lot of clothes prancing around the yard trying to clean things up.

DH just came and asked me if someone who he works with who was flooded can come and stay with us. He was so sweet when he asked me. He is also trying to lend the generator out. I am more cautious on that one, Ike is on his way here possibly next week.

My friend from New Orleans headed back yesterday, no damage, had power. New Orleans did not get the brunt of it, Gustav came directly to Baton Rouge.

Not perfect down there though, my SIL Claudette called earlier to check onbus, they are being told not to drink any water from the tap (not a good plan in New Orleans even under the best conditions), not to flush and not to take a bath.

Other than that, I guess things are back to normal:rolleyes:

By the way we did indeed dine on crawfish ettoufee and shrimp cappellini.
Luckily we had the seafood BEFORE the storm came. It was much more cumbersome to cook with no power. We did suffer through with some greal fillets on the grill though. And we had enough ice for the beer at all times, thank goodness.

I am really looking forward to sleeping in my own bed with the ceiling fan on tonight. One more night huddled around the oscillating fan with the entire family and the dogs breathing on me would be one too many. Not sure what is louder a generator just outside the window or DH off his CPAP (snoring). It appeared to be a contest. I have turned into a complainer and a wuss.

You have the right to complain. I'm just glad to hear from you. Sounds like a scary situation. Glad you all came through it okay. Enjoy your cool night.

Goodness, snappy, you are not a whiner or a wuss, you are one of the strongest women I know! I am VERY glad to hear from you-been thinking of you daily- and very glad you were relatively fortunate at your house!! Hang in, this too shall pass!!

I too am worried for Laura's DH, thinking of them constantly too.

TGIF and GAGWTA too!

Laurie I'm so grateful you are ok. I can imagine how trying this time has been. We were without power for 4 days from hurricane Isabel a few years ago, that was enough for me!

Thanks for keeping my hubby in your thoughts and prayers. This is copied from a group email...

Wednesday was awful... He went to the dr. and had his Xanax with him for the first time. He took one on the way there, and he got worse when he was in the waiting room. He literally had to hold onto the walls to walk down the hall to the exam room. It took a full hour for the Xanax to work. The dr. prescribed Paxil, plus a long acting form of Xanax to get him through until the Paxil starts working in a few weeks. He does need to see a cardiologist as well to rule out any heart condition. And the dr. gave him the name of a pyschiatrist. Most of the time he's fine at home, but when he goes outside it starts. He has not driven since last Thur. I told him pretty soon I'm going to need to set up cones for him in the school parking lot!

And Wednesday was our anniversary. Apparently for the 19th wedding anniversary the gift is shots. We both were due for Tetanus shots, so we both got it. Now we are officially an old couple...we have a date for 2018.

Yesterday he slept all day. Of course while he was sleeping I was Googling Paxil. ugh. I told him when he woke up that if the meds aren't helping, don't take them. It just made him out of it and exhausted and made his symptoms worse. By last night he was starting to feel better as the meds wore off.

I played secretary and booked lots of appts for next week. He is seeing a cardiologist at my hospital (not the dr. his PCP refered him to, she couldn't see him until Dec.) Linda thanks for the advice on choosing his cardiologist. All this heart group does is arrhythmia, so I think he is in good hands there. He'll be seen by them next Fri. (it was going to be Oct, but she called me right back with a cancellation!!!) The psych. did not particpate with our ins. so the PCP recommended another group. They have lots of therapists available but the psych doesn't accept new patients. Fine. I made him an appt. with a therapist on Mon. I honestly think he needs that more than meds. He gets the stitches out of his hand on Wed. Then I get my annual breast MRI and Dexascan next Thur. whew.

Our FL trip is completely up in the air. I told him I'm leaving it up to him. I only want to go if it's going to be fun and relaxing for him...we'll see. We have Hanna coming and need to do some things in the yard today. He is hoping that doing some normal things will help him feel better. I'm going to the library and hope he will come too.

Last night it was a week ago this happened. I can't shake the picture out of my mind of him lying unconscious on the floor...and it still nags at me that he fainted without any warning.

Thanks guys.

Gosh Laura, a week, and so much has happened. I understand your concern about fainting without warning. That means it could happen anywhere. It also sounds like you are with him 24/7. How long can you keep that up?

It sounds like you are "on the case." He is lucky to have you as his wife and advocate. I am sorry your anniversary was spent getting shots. You will just have to do a belated celebration when he is stabilized.

I think you are right about the meds, it sounds like they did more harm than good both Wednesday and Thursday.

It was good to see you post about the cones in the parking lot. A little humor goes a long way at our house.

Next week will be crazy, I hope you get answers, and I hope this weekend proves to be uneventful.

As far as the trip, I hate to see it in jeopardy, especially after all the work I know you have done planning it. Traveling might be too much for him, but after seeing the psychiatrist, maybe you can get a better idea. I would definitely address it from a medical standpoint.

Good luck, thanks for keeping us posted. You know we are thinking and praying on this.

Laurie
