Hi all!

I was talking with Nikki about revitalizing the book club. Is there interest? I'd love to be a part of it this time :cool1: I'm making a list of potential books and then I'll make a poll. Any suggestions for books? Or book selection requests (length of book, genre, etc.)

Here are some suggestions that have come up and some of the books I've been thinking about too. Thoughts?

The Discovery of Witches
Kushiel's Dart
The Replacement Wife
The Host
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
A Grown Up Kind of Pretty
The Yellow Birds
Gone Girl
Sutton

I am interested! I have enjoyed reading some of gthe prior selections with the group and with winter just around the corner, it is time for some serious hunkering down with a good book! Not sure if The Discovery of Witches was a suggestion previously that could be a good read. I am game for almost anything.

I spent some time last night looking at NPR's top 100 sci-fi and fantasy books, and I picked one up today by Jacqueline Carey. It's called "Kushiel's Dart;" I was interested in reading it after a glance at the synopsis and I'll be starting it this evening. :goodvibes

I'm game! I don't have a good book suggestion, but I'd love to be part of the group. I've been looking for a new book.:goodvibes

Wonderful! I'm glad there is some interest. I'll post a poll tonight and then let that stew for a couple days.

I'm game as well. A Discovery of Witches or its sequal are both good books. I just started reading The Replacement Wife only a few chapters in, but seems to be a real page turner.

That's funny. I was just thinking about this too. I just finished John Grisham's new book The Racketeer and really liked it. It seemed to go back to the way he used to write- with complicated plots. Anyway, kind of looking for something new.

I now do most of my reading on my Kindle because I'll buy a hardback book and then when we try to sell it on Amazon we find out the going used rate is $1.00. Not worth it to bother selling and then I'm stuck with a big book I don't need. So, easier to have it on my Kindle.

However, has anyone else noticed the flood of cheap and free books on Kindle that aren't really books? I'm all for the ability of authors to self publish, but there are a lot of really crummy books you have to wade through now. Especially all the "romance" books. Lately I've taken to checking to see if the book is a real book or just a slapped together ebook.
If anyone has gotten some good free books on Kindle lately, I'd be interested in some suggestions.

Anyway, back to the book club. I'm not really into Chick Lit, so I'll pass if that's what is decided on. But I'm definately interested in the book club starting up again. :)

I would be willing...I have Stephanie Meyer's The Host here to read. After seeing the preview the other night at the movies, it looks pretty good, so I am going to sit and finish it here soon...LOL!!

I don't know if I can commit to a book club, but for what it's worth Discovery of Witches and it's sequel are definitely worth a read. Gone Girl is also worth a look. It was one of the best books I've read recently.

I posted some options in the original post. Let me know what you all think!

I've been wanting to read The Discovery of Witches for awhile now. I started it when it first came out, but got too busy to read it. I'd love to get back to it!

The Host looks like a good option too with the movie coming out. :thumbsup2

I'm in:):) going to check out the reviews on both selections and than I will be back to make my selection.

I'm in! But I thought the Discovery of Witches was meh-better than Twilight and nowhere near as good as Outlander, derivative of both. I really wanted to like it more! Haven't read anything else on the list!

I'm in too! I've already read Gone Girl, so I'm voting for the other one, but I think Gone Girl is probably better for book discussion.

I'm in too! I've never done a book club at all so I'll need some instruction as to what we do ... do we just post our thoughts in a thread?
