Dumb questions about the Disney transportation from the airport to the Disney resorts (Southwest airlines to the PO Riverside)-
1) Do you load your own luggage on the shuttles?
2) Can you bring your carry on baggage onto the shuttles or do they have to go with the rest of your luggage?

thanks, but I've seen posts here that say Southwest doesn't participate in the program & that document didn't address that. It also didn't address carry on bags - what if you have 2 carry on's; is there room in the shuttle where you're sitting or do you have to store them with the main luggage?

From what I read earlier today on another post.....
If the carry-ons fit below your seat you can bring them on the bus. All large bags are stored under the bus. The driver will take care of placing it under the bus and retrieving it for you when you arrive at your resort.

Disney really needs to clarify this "participating airline" stuff because it is very confusing. The confusion ends here.

If you are flying into MCO and will be a WDW resort guest, you get FULL use of DME. PERIOD. End of story. Doesn't matter what airline you use, if you fly into MCO you are entitled to DME.

The only way your airline matters in DME is on your way home, after your WDW vacation. On your return trip, if you are using a "participating airline" that means you can check your luggage actually at your resort rather than having to bring it to the airport with you, and you won't see your checked luggage again until you're at your home airport (it also means you can check in for your flight in your resort lobby and get your boarding pass, which will save you time at the airport later). If you're not using a "participating airline," you still get the free bus ride but you have to handle your own luggage. In that case, the driver puts the luggage under the bus for you and you get it when you arrive at MCO.

As for carry-ons, you can take them on the DME bus with you if they will fit under your seat or on the overhead shelf; otherwise, the driver will store them under the bus for you and you'll get them back as soon as you arrive wherever it is you're going (resort or MCO).

So to recap: When you go TO WDW, EVERYONE gets the luggage handling and the bus ride. When you leave WDW, some people get their luggage handled and some don't (depending on your airline) but everyone still gets the free bus ride back to the airport.

Try to put valuables in a carry-on bag that is somewhat smaller than the maximum carry-on size airlines usually allow (9 x 14 x 22 inches). Carry this up onto the Magical Express bus to your seat.

At the welcoming area (side A lowest level), Magical Express reserves the right to take your baggage waiting to go under the bus onto the usual ME trucks (traveling separately) instead for automatic resort delivery. This is most likely to happen during peak periods. You can wait outside the bus to request that things you will need right away do go under the bus.

At the same time ME reserves the right to send you back to the carousel to get your own baggage, notably late in the evening. In the rare latter case if not at all times you should have reported to the ME welcoming area first and then they will wait for you.
