Dirty house

Congratulations on your new house! I know you're irritated about the filth they left behind (and the fixtures they SHOULD have left behind), but on the bright side you have a house that is now all yours. I agree with the other poster who said that at least what they did is easily fixed. It will be merely a memory after a couple of days of cleaning.

I don't know how people can leave a home dirty like that. Whenever I or another family member has moved, it turns into a big clean-up party/family reunion. Everyone goes over to move any remaining items, check everywhere for anything that might've been overlooked, then clean the house top to bottom. Even the kids help. It's fun and we go for pizza afterwards. Of course, this routine is often repeated during the move-in process, because no matter how clean a new place seems, we always feel like the first cleaning really makes it ours ... and guarantees that the germs and ickiness we find later is ours, too!

Oh, I have a good one!

Back in 1989, during the huge foreclosure market, we bought one. It had been broken into and vandalized.

The woman who lived their prior to being forecloses on, was a real estate agent. She took everything inside the house, except the blinds. The neighbors said it was probably so she could strip the house without being seen.

Anyway, we bought the house after seeing:

1) The kitchen vinyl sliced down the middle and pulled back
2) Ant piles - and I'm talking actual piles - inside the house, due to the broken sliding glass door
3) And the very best thing - an upstairs toilet that someone had decided to relieve themselves in (#2), which had grown an unbelievable, almost impressive, mushroom.

Yeah, it was a good price, we couldn't pass it up. :upsidedow

And I sell real estate now, and specialize in foreclosures. You would not believe what I see on a daily basis! :scared1:

I am worried about the agents involved in these transactions. What the heck are they doing to earn their money????

Well our agent was Bozo the Clown so he was no help to us at all.

Thanks for all the stories! I think the picture idea is wonderful. Had I been smarter I would have taken photos and then brought them with me at the walk through like safetymom.

Mostly I am glad I have a great home. :) especially since our closing went badly on our home since the buyer muscled her way hours before closing and was unflexible with the dates of closing. So we were without a house for two weeks!!! That's a whole nother story though.

I guess that's why I expected my new house to be clean and we overlooked the things we should have asked about at the walk through. Lesson learned I guess. I should have come to the DIS and asked you folks what to do!!I would have been alot smarter!!:thumbsup2

Start a thread and tell us. I would love a scary foreclosure story everyday:laughing:

When we bought our townhouse, our walk through was that morning and settlement was about 1pm. We walked through and all the windows were open which we thought was odd but it was a beautiful Sept day. So we check all around everything looks ok and DH says I am going to close these windows. So we made settlement went and got some lunch and got back to the house around 3:30. Well we open the door and got overwhelmed:sick: by the smell of dog urine. We couldnt figure it out and first and went back outside and one of our new neighbors(the busybody) came over to greet us and check us out and told us the owner had left her dogs there all week bc the new place she was going to did not allow pets but that the owner hadnt been around all week and the poor dogs were crying and obviously peeing all over.

We called the realtor but said there wasnt much we could do bc we signed off on the walkthrough (I think she just didnt want to be bothered:headache: ) so we went out and rented a carpet cleaner and went to the pet store and bought the Urine Be Gone stuff. We had to added it to the carpet cleaner and we had to pour it concentrated on the kitchen floor and even in the gargae on the concrete. It took weeks to get the smell out of the gargage.

We have a winner:love:

I would if I didn't think I could get myself into trouble.

I'll tell one.

I went into a house about a year ago and decided to bring my daughter with me. I was the first one inside and there was porn everywhere. That would happen the one time I have my daughter with me.

She picked up one magazine, and was like, "What's this?". I couldn't knock it out of her hands fast enough! The last thing she needed to be doing was touching it! :scared:

We had the same problem. We saw the house in March and didn't close until Labor Day. I don't think they cleaned once in all that time. It wasn't that obvious when we did the walk through and their furniture was still in the house. Plus we didn't take posession for another 10 days after closing.

Once it was empty we could see how filthy the floors were. There was dog hair every where. The tub is an old clawfoot tub. I assumed it was discolored from age. Nope just dirt :scared:

Seriousily AWTY you need to start a thread and we can guess if the story is fact or fiction:eek:

I guess that was the last bring your daughter to work day:) See I knew there were way worse stories than my little hairy shower story and missing stuff.

we have spots in the bathroom that were calked over with weather treatment caulk to hide the dirt.

Do people not know about scrubbies? Do they avoid the mile long aisle at the grocery store?

Trust me, it was/is fact. I found dead squirrels in one not too long ago too. Some agents have found dead bodies, so I consider myself lucky.

Oh please don't think I was underestimating your honesty I just thought it would be funny if you made some up and people guessed what the true ones are...however, I see even I couldn't think of some of your realities. At least your job's not mundane and predictable:rotfl2: I did not see any dead animals or dead bodies here so I consider myself doubly blessed!

:ssst: I don't want that following me around:laughing:
