Just beautiful Melinda::yes::

I think when I check in Sunday I'll drop my bags, strip naked and roll all over that bed like a dog scratching his back in the grass. ;)

Is the changing of the bed spreads and blankets a real important issue? Will the next step to have the carpets cleaned and the drapes? Bringing clorox to clean all surfaces? Wearing gloves and a mask when a I leave the room become the standard?

Gosh if the bed spread looks like it needs a change, then I will request one. I am so amazed at the level of germ fear in the US today that has been driven by the cleaning products marketing plan. I know that for me, and for only me, that it is not that big a deal and that if I started to think of all the might haves that can go on in the commercial world(restaurants, hotel, planes, etc) I would never want to leave home.

There is a BIG difference between sleeping with used bedspreads/blankets vs. sitting on a couch. You get a lot more "up close and personal" with bedspreads and blankets than with a couch. There is also a much higher possibility that you are going to come in contact with other people's body fluids on used bedding than on a couch. I'm not trying to be tacky, just realistic. The thought of using bedding that has already been used by other people is gross. I work in a hospital and I think my understanding of infection control is pretty realistic, not sensationalistic.

I feel for you really, there are quite a few people in this world that have a hard time with germs or have fears about them. I just think that if it bothers the few so much then really take your own personal bedding and use it exclusively. The reality is that it is very unrealistic to expect or demand to have everything you touch be germ free. Let us first consider the waste of resorces on the use of water to clean the bedding every time some one leaves, the replacement for the machinery, the wear and tear on the bedding in question etc. What will be next, demanding the rugs be shampooed after each occupant has left.....because if you start to think about what is on the carpet..... it could get just as dicey or worse.

The only real logical answere I see is bring your own bedding and slip covers for the pillows that you have shared with all those who came before you.

No need to "feel for me.":rolleyes: Perhaps I have a more complete understanding of the issue than people who poo-poo the concerns. I actually don't have "a hard time with germs;" I do know that people actually CAN and DO catch nasty things by sleeping on used linen(e.g., lice and scabies).

Also, nobody (except you) said anything about "expecting or demanding to have everything you touch be germ free."

Puh-lease. I think talking about rolling naked like a dog is what some people would refer to as :p "a joke" :p , not being impolite.

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

Is it just me or is there a lot of pretty arbitrary thread-locking by certain members of the DIS police lately? This thread will likely be locked now which will prove my point nicely... :rolleyes:

I agree...I don't have a hard time with germs of the good old fashioned dirt variety. (Come to my house and you'll believe me.) However, there's a difference b/t MY dirt and my families dirt and goodness-knows- who's dirt. :) But I also think that we underestimate stuff going around. We lived through the SARS scare around here and I think it made us all a bit more aware of how quickly things can spread. Now please don't flame me b/c I don't think anyone is going to get SARS at WDW, but I can tell you that I had friends having babies in the hospital during that time whose husbands couldn't be there with them b/c of the increased crack-down on germs.

I think with this particular issue, it's one of those things where things so seldom go wrong that we assume everything is safe. Sort of like how you didn't used to need a passport to travel within the US...we assumed that things would go pretty much okay and not until a big catastrophe happened did we realize that maybe we were being too lax. Again, some people will think I'm being melodramatic but that's okay.

I wouldn't say I need to travel with exclusively my own linen just because I expect the bedding to be clean, and I wear socks in the room or slippers most of the time for exactly what the op said about the carpet.

I dont know..I just think about what someone may have been doing on top of that bedspread or blanket and any "evidence" left behind...not easily observed but still there and I dont want to be touching it! Yuck
