Hi all,

This year I have the "pleasure" of flying into LAX. Can anyone give me directions from the airport to Disneyland? Specifically, my hotel is on South Harbor Boulevard.
The hotel website says to take the Katella/Freedom Way exit off of I-5 (and then a right onto South Harbor Blvd), but provides little other guidance.
I'll be driving at about 11:00pm, so hopefully traffic will not be a major issue. I'm just looking for the quickest way, since I'll want to crash at the hotel when I get there.

Thanks!

From the airport exit follow the signs to the 105 EAST. Take that to until it ends at the 605, and go SOUTH on the 605 for a few miles to the 91 Freeway EAST. It's another few miles to the 5 SOUTH, take that exit and follow the directions you already have to get to your hotel.

At that time of night it should take you about 40 minutes to get there. :)

Also allow much more time than you'd ever think you need to get back to LAX. It's very poorly laid out! We got caught in traffic returning there, then at the airport we went to the American terminal for "cities." Well, apparently American does not consider Chicago a "city." We got to the right one, I left the luggage my wife and kids andf went to return the car - also not an easy thing to find! I ended up missing the flight by about 2 minutes. They gave our assigned seats away, even though we checked in on time. Then, I had trouble getting on the next flight as their computer showed that I was already onboard the last one with my wife and kids. This despite the fact that my boarding pass had been in my pocket since we got it at curbside check in!

Too bad it's usually so much cheaper to fly there! I'm considering flying into San Diego - it's cheaper than John Wayne for me - anything to avoid LAX!

MrShiny,

Next time you check for flights, you might also want to check Long Beach Airport. American Airlines just started nonstop service from O'Hare to Long Beach this past summer. Fares were pretty reasonable, and it's a lot closer to Anaheim than both LAX and San Diego. As with any new service, the fares tend to be low to introduce the public to it. Don't know what the fares are currently.

I used to live in LA and travel a lot for business. LAX is not badly laid out at all. It is just a large airport, but a large airport that runs smoothly. The only time I used to have a problem with LAX was with the holidays. We just flew in this summer and were pleasantly surprised that it was still so easy an airport despite all the negative posts that I sometimes read on this board. I think a lot of people on the boards are either unfamiliar with the airport, or try to compare it to a small town airport. But, in the past few years we have mostly flown in or out of JFK, Newark, LaGuardia and San Francisco Airports - all a real nightmare to deal with. Plus, I've also had to deal with airports in many other big cities over the years - i.e. Dallas-Ft. Worth and Atlanta that are much more difficult.

It is laid out on an upside down U shape. I think that American is one of the first airlines on the U. The Bradley terminal (international flights) is at the top of the U. The United terminal is the last terminal on the U. However, when you first get on the U, there is a road that shortcuts to the other side of the U with the United terminal. I can't remember exactly where the other terminals are, but I'm sure if you search for an LAX website you could find out.

I don't know the best way to go to Disneyland. I would ask your rental car company. And, it should be very quick at 11PM (yes, even OJ Simpson could have made it in 20 minutes to the airport although he claimed it was not possible. I used to live in Brentwood and never had it take any more than 20 minutes - sometimes did it in 10 minutes - at that time of day.)

I guess I'm just spoiled by O'Hare, Midway and Orlando. I've flown to Newark and San Fransisco and I agree they are bad, but I hated LAX too!

The American two terminal thing was very annoying, and the signage coming into the airport was poor both for that and for finding the way to car rental return.

Also, perhaps because we came in on an early flight, but it was very odd that there was not a soul near baggage claim when we were there.

The baggage claim I like the best is Las Vegas - its actually a controller area where you must show your claim to exit.

Michelle's instructions would be exactly the way I go when I am at LAX.

My only amplification on the instruction would be

As you are exiting the airport, you want to take Lincoln SOUTH (to your right) and go underneath the runway to get to the 105. Take the 105 to Norwalk which is EAST.

Also when taking the 605 south....the 91 exit is like 2 miles south so don't get into the fast lane....stay to the right and follow the signs to 91 East.
