Hi everyone!

I know I saw a link to these "directions", but - of course - now that I need them I can't find them.

Does anyone know where there may be directions on how to easily take these apart for transportation? The post I had read before said it was 3 simple steps.

Thanks a bunch!!!!

I don't know if this is the link you were thinking of, but it does show taking a particular type of ecv apart.
I know that a number of posters have indicated the ecvs they rented came with a handy instruction card on assmeby and putting the ecv back together again. Hopefully, one of the "experienced ecv assembly" DISers will see your thread and reply.

Thanks Sue! We are renting from Walker, so hopefully this is the model DF will have. I knew there was a discussion about this some time ago. I didn't look then, I figured I had plenty of time...LOL. Well, that time is now here! Thanks again!

I think it's either Puffy or Cheshire Figment who has posted some detailed instructions before. Maybe one of them will post before you leave.
I know several other people have posted that there was a card attached to or in a pocket of the ecv that they rented and that it was not that hard to figure out how to do it.
We have never rented one since DD has her own wheelchair, so I don't have any personal experience with taking them apart. I do know that most of the places rent several different types of ecvs, so if you haven't already, let them know you want one that can be taken apart to put in a car.

Here are the instructions that I use for the Walker scooters. It is based on using a full-size four-door sedan (Buick Century) or larger. Note that some of these instructions will not make sense until you are actually doing the work.

1. Grab the seat frame on the bottom of both sides and pull up. If the seat does not come easily, wiggle it to release the rod from the socket. Set the seat aside on the ground.

2. Disconnect the two battery pack quick connects. Put one battery as far to a front corner of the trunk as possible; put the second battery behind it (closer to the back of the car).

3. Disconnect the main cable by turning the knurled ring (which is right where the cable goes into the motor assembly) to unlock and pull the cable off. With one hand on the tiller, pull the top of the "T" shaped handle which connects the main portion of the scooter to the motor assembly. This will separate the two parts.

4. Put the motor assembly in the trunk. It is a good idea to initially put it in "freewheel" (toggle switch backward and knob pulled up about two inches) push the motor/rear wheel assembly to the front of the trunk; it will fit in the space next to the batteries.

5. Pull up on the lever on the tiller post just below the left handlebar; this will allow the tiller to fold back. Put it slightly off-center so it is next to the seat socket rather than on top of the socket. Push on the bottom of the basket to collapse it.

6. Put the main section into the trunk with the front directly against one side of the car. Note that due to location of gas tank piping or other reasons it may fit more easily pointing to one side than the other.

7. put the seat in the trunk.

For reassembly:

1. Remove seat from trunk and set on the ground.

2. Remove main section and set on the ground, raise the tiller to its normal upright position. Open the basket also.

3. Remove motor/rear wheel assembly from trunk; be sure to take it out of freewheel (knob puched down and toggle switch forward).

4. Holding tiller and the seat socket, maneuver the main section so the back fits in the metal slot on the motor assembly. When ready, pull up on the "T" handle while pushing down on the back of the main section; releasing the "T" handle will lock the two sections together.

5. Plug in cable from main section to motor assemnbly. Norm, ally there will be a yellow paint spot on the front of the plug -- this goes up to fit the plug into the socket. Turn the knurled ring clockwise until it clicks to lock it.

6. Take the batteries from the trunk and set them on the floor in the ridged areas. Note the advertising side goes to the outside and the connector is next to the seat socket. Plug the connectors in to the batteries, they will only fit one way.

7. Put the seat rod into the socket. When it seems all the way down, wiggle the seat to make sure that it is in properly.

8. Put in key and go.
