Direct to Room - for check in

I booked 4 rooms which were room only reservations for my family. I am paying for the trip and several reservations are arriving at different times through out the night and even into the next morning. I've called several times and spoke with cast members about the direct to room check-in process but can't get one consistent answer. One cast member said since I booked room only it was not an option and I would need to go to guest services to check in and pay the remaining balance for the reservation. Another cast member said I would have to pay for my reservation in full and then would get a direct to room text message and yet another cast member said that I would could only pay for my reservation balance at check-in with guest services as "direct to room" was not available for room only reservations and that was just how there reservation system worked. I have looked everywhere and I can not find anything that says direct to room is not available for a room only reservation - I know someone will have the answers - I am a little annoyed that the cast members are not more knowledgeable (or maybe they are)?
 
We always book room only reservations and we are always eligible for direct to room check in. But if you have multiple rooms linked on one reservation number you might not get a text with your room number. In that case you would just check in at the front desk.

If each of the four rooms have their own individual reservation numbers than if you do online check in then each room should get its own room ready text.

There are several criteria that you must meet to qualify for direct to room:
-You must have completed the online check in form and placed a credit card for incidentals on each room.
-You must already be in possession of your magicbands.
If you do this, you may get a text and you may not. It isn't 100%. I sort of doubt they would send the text of your room wasn't paid off 100% either, but I have no experience. Anyone can do online check in to expedite their front desk experience, but you might not get the text to skip the desk entirely. If you go into my Disney experience and do online check-in, it should tell you right there if you qualify.
 
Any remaining balance on the room itself will be charged to the CC on file for the reservation the morning of checkin, whether you do online checkin or not. But if you don't check in online, you won't get the direct to room text or email.
 

I've yet to see a definitive set of criteria for getting a room-ready text. I'm not sure there is one.

Apparently, doing online check-in gives them the ability to send a room-ready text if they choose to. But there's no way to guarantee that you'll get one.
 
If you do not get the text, check the MDE app. On occasion, I've found I do not get a text, but they put the room assignment in my MDE account and I can see it there.
