Direct purchase question

Is there a minimum for how many points someone can purchase direct? Secondarily, does that amount change if someone is already a DVC member?
TIA

Yes and yes. Each resort has a different minimum and I would call DVC to ask directly about that resort... I had read the minimum was 100 for Poly but the guide said I could
purchase 75. Also the minimum direct points you need to maintain to receive perks such as food, merchandise and AP discounts is 75.

In addition current members can add on contracts as small as 25 points at a time at most locations. CCV had a minimum of 50 pts for current owners.

Something I never understood or just plain wondered is why most contracts are for an even amount of points. Example: i own a resale contract for 50 points at VGC and 3 nights at the cheapest time of the year is 51 points (not going on a Fri/Sat). I guess my question is why aren't there more say 51 point contracts vs 50. I have seen one resale once for 38 points. Of course then I wondered how they would use 38 points. Back in the day, did Disney only let you buy points in certain denominations? One week at the Riviera, in the Tower Studio starts 81 points. Would they let you buy 81 points? Or would they make you get 100???

We recently bought 100 points direct. if i buy 100 points resale with the same use year, will we be able to use all 200 points just like they were all bought direct? can i use them to book Riviera or only the original 100?

You can and we’re able to purchase whatever you wanted. I once owned both 48 and a 52 point AKV contracts. Most just round though and since they can and have reallocated points it doesn’t really work to buy an exact amount for your stay. You could but it might not be the right amount anyway if they reallocate. Sometimes it’s probably because of incentive levels too so you might decide to go up to get a bigger discount and also to give a cushion against reallocation or if you change the length or time of your trips.

I once was in ROFR on an 88 pointer (sellers ended up cancelling sale). It happens. I bought a 55 pointer direct.

I wonder, and have seen a few, how hard it is to get, say, 15 or 20 pointers direct????

It's the points that are qualified, not the owner. So the 100 points direct can be used anywhere, but the resale 100 could only be used at their home resort or the other original L14 (assuming you don't mean 100 Riviera resale points, which could only be used at Riviera).

The resale points will not have any "direct" perks or entitlements. You cannot use them to book a stay at DRR.

I think you have to buy a minimum of 25 direct after you have a contract. At least thats what I was told

I believe there are a few contracts with as few as 10 points that were sold following the first major point reallocation after Bay Lake Towers went into active sales. These were sold to help "heal" the problems created by the reallocation ... and to quiet the grumbling when new owners found themselves just 10 points short of their annual plans.

There are some odd numbered contracts out there. DVC used to have a high minimum buy in when the first property opened around 230 or so. You will see a lot of OKW 230 point contracts, others like AKV were 160 point minimum. Right now, I found BRV contracts for sale 188 and 544 and 30 points. They are out there but not many. Some say DVC does not like to buy back odd amounts and will the them pass ROFR more often, because they usually get stuck with a few points they cannot sell, since the points are associated with certain rooms and they cannot combine they with another room and sell them as one contract.
