Direct Exchange Idea!

I was thinking that a direct exchange site for posting desired exchanges might be a good idea. Anyone else interested in a more long term page to post possible exchange interests?

I think that is a great idea. I beleive it would further increase the flexibility of DVC.

Dean -

Are you referring to exchanges outside DVC, within DVC, or both? I would think that 95% of the TSers on these boards are DVC, so there will more "Want to trade DVC" to Royals, Maui, etc than the other way around.

However, I would be interested in seeing exchanging within DVC in regards to 7/11 priority, especially for Grand Villas. Although we enjoy our home resort (BoardWalk), the point difference in GV's is mind boggling. (Rich Hyams - we usually stay at BWV but like to expand our horizons occasionally).

Although Direct Exchanges are possible on this board (as well as TUG), comfort level for these types of exchanges would be much higher with "established", long known DIS'ers.

DVC California, actually both but I see the main functionality as outside to inside DVC and vice versa.

I would much rather trade with a member of DVC than outside. At least you know that a member will expect the same quality on a resort outside as with DVC. That is a great idea Dean.

I think that is a great idea too! We could trade points for other timeshares and the 7/11 rule. That would make DVC even better! I would also feel much more comfortable making a trade with a DVC member than a stranger.

Not realy, you'd have to have something that would cover months to a year or more and still be useable or searchable. You could have something like a spread sheet listing that would require being a member. Or you could have short ads listed like classifieds. The info would have to come up on a single page where one could scan it quickly and easily where one could search it using a browser without having to sort out all the rent adds.

What we have on the rent trade board just wouldn't work for a long term answer. Could it be modified to do so, maybe but it would likely take away the ability to post to the ads. Imagine if you wanted to look for HI for 2 years from now and a HI owner come on the boards 6 months later and it was a perfect fit. They'd likely never get together with the current format. You'd also have to lose all the other junk in the posts like countdowns, images and the like.

What I'd personally love to see is a large database of members (both DVC and otherwise). I actually see 2 different types of listings. One saying I own DVC (or X timeshare ) and am interested in exchanging sometimes so contact me if you have something to offer. And a separate listing that says I have X and want Y for summer of 2004 or whatever specifics apply. Once this is in place the word can go out to DVC itself (maybe they'd include it in the VM), TUG, Timesharing today and any other group of boards or mailings lists that any of us might interact with.
