Direct *and* Resale?

We were intentionally #TeamHybrid from the start of our membership. I bought 100 BLT points followed by a favorite week 153 point contract at Riviera. We don't plan on using our favorite week for quite awhile (10+ years away).

We like BLT and the difference between direct and resale price per point at BLT specifically is substantive. ($275 versus our $120 negotiated price.)

18 months ish later, we know we need more points, but are waiting until after our February trip to decide on direct vs resale and which resort to add onto. We love all of the original 14 resorts, so thinking we'll add on more resale (for now), but could easily be swayed by more direct, especially if a good sale happens. Maybe a bit of both, tbh.

With those point numbers I assume you are booking studios. Those two rooms are quite different in size. After staying at RIV do you consider trading your BLT at 7 months for something larger or are you contempt with BLT?

Perhaps however it certainly would help those that want to try out a no humidity park experience. Without point washing a resale owner of the O14’s only option is VGC. With the point washing it would open up a lot more chances for those folks with VDH.
Not just the resorts but you get more exchange opportunities like cruises and member benefits like sorcerer pass.

Any resale contract since March 2011 (over 14 years ago!) has had restrictions, so anyone purchasing resale since that time knew their limitations when deciding to not purchase direct.

While that is correct I’m not sure why you are bringing this up as @muppets3d and my posts were replies to your post about not much benefit would be had with point washing which is what would theoretically remove those restrictions if offered.

They could point wash without making the points eligible for everything.

So, nothing to say they can’t be creative if they go that route….which, given we are 14 years into making resale different, and 6 years since resale restrictions for point use at new DVC resorts, I would be surprised to see it

Now, with the MMb program, I can see them adding a feature where an owner pays a per point fee to trade per reservation.

For a resale owner who wants that occasionally ability to stay at a restricted resort, it might be worth it, especially once you have more than 3 resorts…I can see LSL potentially being worth it for some to just try!

Interesting spin on MMB!! That could certainly prove useful for those with direct/grandfathered resale and regular resale as one would have to qualify for membership extras.

If that was offered I could see a bunch of people gobbling up some SSR points to stay at RIV. Even with having to most likely book preferred rooms at 7 months I figure that would still be cheaper than buying direct points to do so.

After Aulani, DVC knows its formula for success is the theme park bubble. Any restricted resale contract is still getting you on property in the bubble, and that's really all Disney wants at the end of the day.

If you want unrestricted access, you can go hybrid like many on these boards or wash yourself by selling all your resale to buy direct.

Actually, we are 1 bedroom people. Our original plan was to split stay between BLT and Riviera or combine all 253 at the 7 month mark for a trip. I really like all of the DVC resorts (we stayed at nearly all through renting points prior to buying DVC) and enjoy the variety and bouncing around. My husband only wanted to commit to DVC for one trip of between 5-6 nights a year at first. He quickly changed his mind.

What has become clear is that we are planning more trips - over the past 18 months, we've gone on four different trips. We also did our first staycation at the Grand Cal (this summer is VDH) and long term may be leaving CA so need to figure out if we are buying more BLT, more Riv, or perhaps even a VDH contract. It may be a combo of all three over the next few years. I don't think we'll be at only 253 points for long.
