Has anyone ever purchased vouchers in the past through the Direct Air Family Ties sale? A little nervous just buying them for our trip next April and then taking the chance there wont be any availability on the days I want to fly since there are only so many seats on each flight they alott to these vouchers.
Just looking for opinions (positive or negative) regarding Direct Air and especially their Family Ties sales

Thank you

Is the week you are traveling a school vacation week for your area? Are there multiple Direct Air flights to your destination that week that will give you some flexibilty? I have used the Family Ties vouchers in the past and just bought them again for our late summer trip. I had no trouble booking the exact dates I wanted for all 8 of us last year, but we were going to Florida in August so not exactly high demand! No issues with Direct Air at all. If you decide to go with them, be patient with the booking process. Anytime I've had to call I've waited on hold at least 15 minutes, but they have always been helpful. Love the smaller airports they fly in and out of also.

Yes, that is our Easter break week and I am not sure if there a multiple flights out or not. Still thinking about it but thank you for your input

I just bought Family Ties tickets for our trip in November. I wasn't sure about it either, since they can't guarantee certain dates. I emailed Direct Air about how many seats per flight are allocated to Family Ties and this is what they said:

Welcome to the Family Ties 2011 sale! You will be able to start booking your flights on Monday May 2, 2011. We allocate a certain percentage of seats on each flight to our Family Ties passengers (approximately 50 seats). You may reserve through the Reservations Office or complete the Online Request Form beginning on May 2nd.

This put my mind at ease a little bit about getting 5 seats on the same flight! We are leaving on Thanksgiving week so fingers crossed!

If all the reduced price seats are taken, you can still use your voucher ... you will just have to pay some additional money for the flight.

Be cautious of how many you buy I'm one of those who bought in advance and was unable to use them lost out on 300.00 because everytime I tried to use the voucher there were no seats available. They over sell and never have enough seats for family ties, Then you ask why are there seats available on the flights and why can't you use up a voucher and they will tell you only a certain # of seats are available for the ties. So they would rather have a empty seat then let You use the voucher.

I did not end up purchasing them and am very glad right now. I kept checking their site and there were no flights after April 9th (we are going from the 6th thru 14th) so I called to find out when those flights will come out.
Well, the girl told me that is the last day that route is scheduled for the year!
It is the Niag. Falls / Lakeland route and apparently does not run all year.

I had no idea but am very glad I did not purchase the vouchers.

Every airline does this...so to speak. SW puts out 'x' number of seats at a certain fare, and once those seats are gone, they're gone. Direct Air is no different. There are going to be strings attached to those cheap fares. I bought Family Ties vouchers last winter, hoping to use them for our Oct trip. The day the window opened for our trip, I was on the phone. The four of us are in the very front of the plane!! The girl on the phone tried to tell me the window hadn't opened yet....nope, I was looking at it I told her. She had just gotten to work and hadn't seen it yet!! Too funny.

I had only three vouchers so had to pay full price for one of us...not a big deal. You have to do your homework when flying DirectAir, but it sure does pay off. We flew out of Worcester to Sanford for April vacation...had a very good experience. You have to know which flights are seasonal and when they start up and end. I'm not sure why you say they 'oversell' because they aren't selling on any particular flight. Now, if you try to use them, weeks after the window opens, and it's a popular time of year to fly, then yes, you will probably be shut out. But that is no different than any other airline. They have a set number of seats at those reduced fares and once they're sold, the fares go way up.
