I sure do hate when people like this get upgrades... they get a wonderful upgrade and they are upset about it ... its Crazy ... I would be so happy and thankful ! its a shame that this wonderful upgrade is wasted on people like this ..

OP I am sorry your daughter is upset. Sometimes it's not about $$ but a specific want and your daughter wanted the new rooms at POR. To a kid it's not about the $$, it's about the theme.

I am glad you have decided to take the upgrade, it truly is a great offer and no matter what you'll be there as a family and I am certain you will have a good time whether you are at POR, POP or Poly. Have a fantastic vacation. We've yet to stay at the Poly but would love to one day.

Congrats on your upgrade and I hope your daughter isn't overly upset.

We stayed at POR the first 3-4 times we visited WDW and really liked it. However, last trip we stayed at the Polynesian and it was MUCH better than POR. The lobby, the pool, the view of the castle from the beach, the boat parade, the restaurants, everything was better (and we had a garden view room in Tahiti). Transportation to MK/Epcot was so much better there's no comparison. You can walk to the TTC in about 5 minutes and get on the monorail for about a 5 minute ride to MK or grab a different monorail for a slightly longer ride to Epcot. There's also a ferry and a smaller boat to MK. The rooms are much larger than those at POR.

The only thing that is better at POR is the quick service dining - while Captain Cook's is adequate it doesn't compare to what you can get at POR. Great that you got the upgrade and enjoy the trip!

Thanks for the insight everyone. I am so glad to put the decisions behind me the woman I spoke to was super nice. The Grand Floridian was booked and they were awesome on the phone-she said they could give me any other deluxe hotel but it would be a standard view. Not knowing what I was getting other than what you all so wonderfully described, I know I made the right choice. My 5y DD is excited that the Poly has a view of the castle so that makes me happy. I think a standard view at any of the other hotels may not be as nice as what I was originally given.

Just wanted to wish you a good trip and a suggestion to book the Luau, maybe as a surprise for your daughter.

EXCELLENT upgrade!!!! You'll LOVE it! In fact it may spoil you.
I believe everything happens for a reason so think of this as a wonderful "meant-to-be".

Hope you have a wonderful time!! The Poly really is wonderful! The pool is so much fun and you have Dole Whips at your fingertips!! I hope your daughter will enjoy being so close to Cindy's house! I can understand her disappointment though. Children don't understand the price difference in rooms. My step son had his heart set on All Star Sports one year b/c he had seen pictures of the giant X's and O's on a football field and to him that was coolest thing EVER. He was rather devastated when I explained that we would be at the Beach Club (one of MY favorite places!). He doesn't care about a bigger rooms or comfier beds. He just wanted to run around on a football field and jump in and out of a giant helmet.

That being said, once we got there he had a wonderful time and totally forgot about the X's and O's.

I hope your family will love the Poly - it is my favorite resort and I've stayed there twice. One poster suggested booking the Luau - I think your daughter will love that. Also the volcano pool is a lot of fun for kids (and adults). Enjoy your trip - look forward to your review when you return.
