DINOSAUR

I had no idea what this ride did when I got on it other than it was in the dark. I still can't believe I actually went on it! I was afraid it might be like a Space Mountain rollercoaster ride but with dinosaurs. (And I refuse to ride SM!) I spent the entire ride in a state of mild terror, waiting for something even WORSE to happen. All I remember of it now is lots of jerky car movements, dinos popping out everywhere, and one sudden drop about the size of the one on Pirates.

I prepared my then DD7 for all things dark & loud at Disney (not just dinos). We practiced at home sitting in the pitch dark, discussing how nothing is actually touching us & therefore nothing is hurting us. Then we started adding loud thumping music, then flashing lights. We talked about how everyone who gets on comes off untouched by dinos.

The difference from other smaller parks & Disney is that rides are indoors for the most part & can't be seen or sized up by the rider beforehand. Their scale and scope can only be imagined & sometimes we over conceptualize.

We assured our DD that we would ask her to ride everything once before making a decision & that we WOULD NOT ever require her to ride twice.

After all that prep & reassurance...I rode with her first on rider swap. She walks off crying softly, minimal tears falling down her cheek. No one spoke. She walks over to Dad, sucks the snot back up her nose, and says...'can we do that again?'

To which we replied 'YES' and she never looked back. Rode many times, no more tears.

We're really debating about our DD who will be 5.5 when we go. We were kind of glad it was closed for refurb 2 years ago, so we didn't have to worry about it. Her brother was terrified of it at 6. She's seen the youtube video and wants to try it, but we know that doesn't give you the full effect of how dark, loud and scary it is.

It's a dark ride. It's a very bouncy dark ride. I laugh the entire time. I don't find it to be scary.

Its a very bumpy ride, but it is a very silly ride with the story. We love it. You have to try it once.

It's a great ride. Half the fun for me is being on with small children and seeing their photo afterwards lol

If you don't like the dark or loud noises then I wouldn't ride.

But you'll be in and out before it even breaks the atmosphere, trust me, what could go wrong

Would someone be able to describe for me what DINOSAUR is like? If I can handle rides like Mine Train, Soarin, Test Track.... will I be okay on DINOSAUR? I've never been on it because people have said it's rough and scary. Am I missing out?

I hate it.

It’s definitely loud and bumpy. I don’t mind it but my daughter (7 at the time) cried 2 years ago and refuses to go on it next month.

It's my favorite ride at WDW! I was just there a few weeks ago and rode it twice. It's definitely rough but if you are into Jurassic Park, you'll love it!

It is all things mentioned previously, and tons of fun! The more attention paid during the preshow, the better the ride. I also think it has one of the most hilarious post shows there is!

I would consider Dinosaur more like Space Mountain. Rough and jerky.
My 5 year old LOVED Space Mountain and Expedition Everest last week and did them both twice. He hated Dinosaur, the only ride if all of the parks he didn’t like. My 7 year old had his hands over his ears the entire time; WAY too loud.

I don't consider Dinsoaur to be a "rough" ride, but that may be because I rode Primeval Whirl right before I went on it. Stay away from PW... Now that ride is ROUGH. Dinosaur has a couple jerks and turns, but I guess it depends on what your body can handle. I will agree that it is scary. It's the scariest ride in all of WDW in my opinion. It's still so fun! Even when I know where and when all of the "scary" parts are, I still jump. Lol!

We took my son, when he just turned 4 on it, I think our very first day at Disney world. It petrified him so much he refused to ride it until last year when he was 10! We were like, eh? What 4 year old doesn’t Like dinosaurs..?!:rotfl:ooops.

I took my little cousin on it without warning her what was about to befall her, and I made certain she sat on the outside. At one point, she was so startled she cussed.

It’s scary because there is one part with an enormous dinosaur right in your face- ride car jerks up & down throughout- soarin, 7DMT & test track are very smooth in comparison. Like the bumps on Kilimanjaro x 100.
DS hates it - rest of us like it - it has a fun backstory to it.

Yes, this!:rotfl2: We went on it once and the picture we have is one of the funniest ever!

We’re DLR “veterans” and it definitely reminded us of Indiana Jones although I think we all liked Dinosaur more. :rotfl:

When my kids were younger we took ear plugs because they didn’t like loud noises. Even with ear plugs the ride is plenty loud. It really helped and they loved the ride.

I’m 31 and I don’t think I have ever once kept my eyes open for the entire ride

I love Dinosaur!

But like your daughter I am very sensitive to loud noises.

Earplugs are essential for me on Dinosaur or I’m simply not going on the attraction.
