Can someone please tell me if I'm crazy: did the Dinosaur ride used to be called "Countdown to Extinction?" If so, why was it changed? If not, why do I think that was the name?? I'm thinking that's what it was called back in the late 90s when I first saw it.

The name was changed when the movie Dinosaur came out to better incorporate it into the ride. It was changed in 2000 I believe, about 2 years after being opened

I really miss the Countdown to Extinction name! The change actually came about because of the CTX acronym, which is the stock symbol of Centrex corporation, and WDW had it on much of the merchandise.

Wow! Thanks learn something new every day. I don't remember that even though we were there the first year that the park opened. One of my favorites in AK.

I think I only remember it because at the time I was a die hard heavy metal fan and there was a song called "Countdown to Extinction" by Megadeth which I liked a lot. I remember seeing the ride and had this whole "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" moment where I shouted "Ecellent!" while playing air guitar and embarrassing my party...

I remember it being called that.
We were there for the park soft opening. What fun that was!
