Can anyone tell me what this ride is like. We didn't get to see it last time and I am not sure what it is. I am not keen on spinning and big drops although I have managed Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain.

Thanks :sunny:

No spinning or big drops, but it is dark and very loud. Oh, and there are dinosaurs! I'm a real wimp and I do it every time. Just fix on a grin!

It doesnt spin or have any big drops as far as I remember but it is very rough, you get thrown around quite a lot. Its not scary tho, I hate big coasters and I like this ride.

Its fine as said before no sudden drops or spins. It just jerks around a roadway, sometimes in the dark. It is an excellent ride don't miss it.

It was the roughest ride we went on last year, and yes very loud, dark and some flickering lights. I read somewhere they were taming it down this year.

Probably our least favourite ride, but we'll do it again this time.

DW has been on this wide twice and so far has not opened her eyes once!

It's very load (even for me and I'm hard of hearing!), especially at the end.

Currently one of the best rides in Animal Kingdom. We went with a party of 14 in May. From 5 year olds to 65 year olds. The ride could scare small children who are afraid of the dark. It may be a bit rough for older riders. Several of our party wanted to ride again straight away. Excellent theme and effects. I believe the height restriction is lower than it was when it was "countdown to extinction", which was it's original name when it opened.

Let us know what you thought.

Have a great time.

I will brave this one I think ;) I will let you know what I thought about it when I get back. :goodvibes

HI Cazzie I'm going to brave this one for the first time this year too! as I've been reassured by this board that there are no big drops or spins, if they've been lying to us we'll have to gang up on them all ;)

Hi Cazzie & Carol

Dinosaur is my favourite ride in the whole of the World!! And I am a first class wuss! I only managed Splash Mountain for the first time this year after building up to it for three years!

The ride is very jerky and bumpy, but absolutely no spinning and no big drops. The ride is like being in a landrover so you can imagine they be hard pressed to make it spin or drop very much.

I'm sure they've made this ride darker - this year I didn't seem to see half as much as I have previously. Anyone any thoughts on this?

Anyway, have a great trip both, and let us know your thoughts when you get back.

Yes I thought this ride was darker than usual but we had young children with us so could have felt more nervous for them!!

Hi Susan

Thanks for this, it's nice to see that I hadn't imagined it!

That's right - the ride was toned down a bit from when it first opened in 1998. The name change was tied to the Disney movie, and the whole attraction was made more 'family friendly' by making it a little bit less rough than it was.

Sigh. I preferred the old version, although it's still a brilliant attraction.

This ride is almost the same as the Indiana Jones ride in Disney California.

I much prefer Indy (I'm a bit of a fan), and because its better overall

Although according to A Brit's Guide, Dinosaur has been toned down since opening, according to The Unofficial Guide, it's been cranked up a few notches making it much nippier! It's still a fairly tame ride though.

I also prefer the 'Countdown to Extinction' title, and I imagine I'll prefer the original ride (even though it's only been toned down).

I think calling it 'Dinosaur' after the Disney movie makes a lot of people think, 'oh, my 5yr old won't be frightened of this - he/she's seen the film and loved it!', when in fact, it can be quite scary for a lot of people of all age groups.

But, like I said, I haven't been on it since the change (can't wait to go back though).

On our first trip to Disney my daughter was 5 and was quite apprehensive about going on this ride. On our last day we made Hubby ride it first to see what it was like. He came off and said it was fine so, with a lot of persuading, on we got. I hadn't expected it to be so dark. And compared to a lot of the other rides it was very juddery and uncomfortable. He'd also not warned us about the large dinosaurs at the end!!! I was screaming, our daughter was crying and shaking... Only then did he admit he'd ridden it the first time with his eyes closed! As you can imagine he wasn't very popular after that and my daughter refused to talk to her Daddy for the rest of the day!

i found it scarry, and im 16! If you dont like motion simulator rides, dont go for this one, it is very similar. My sis (18) didnt enjoy it at all, it knocked her out for the rest of the day and she can do rides like space mountain, tower of terror and rides like that fine usually. It is very jolty and swings you about a bit, its very much like spiderman at universal, except without the 3d glasses (that ride is puke worthy, i hated it!). I also have a slight fear of dinosaws, and this was the first year i did it with fully eyes open, and it still didnt appeal. Yet the closing the eyes trick does really help, except for the really loud noises! I have seen small children crying comming off, but a larger majority are ok, if a little shaken.

I can't do Splash Mtn. but I can do Dinosaur. Just close your ears and your eyes.. ha.. that's what I do. It's extremly loud.
