Going to WDW in June and Oct and have never been to AK last WDW visit was in Dec 96. How is dino the ride? Is it similar to a roller coaster? I don't do the coasters but I do like Splash mt. I just don't like the coasters? Alos how is test track too
Can't comment on Dino, but Test Track is pretty fun. The first time is the best, and I wouldn't read up on it too much so you are surprised. It's nothing like a roller coaster. There are some elements of surprise, and I thought it was very well done. My kids - 5 1/2 and 8 at the time LOVED it.
With Dinosaur, you're in a jeep-like vehicle. It's not like a coaster at all. It's basically, a dark, bumpy ride and once in a while a dinosaur will jump out at you. I'll probably get flamed for this, but our family thought it was pretty lame.
Did not make it on Dinousaur so I can't comment there but I really liked Test Track. I am an absolute roller coaster phobic (I do not like Splash Mountain either) and I went on Tast Track four times. Not entirerly becasue I wanted to go that many times (my 7 year old was fixated on that ride) but I did enjoy it each time. Much more so than when my 2 year old wanted to go on It's a Small World three times in a row!!!!
After finally convincing our DS9 and DD6 to try these rides, we all absolutely loved Test Track. We rode 4 times (love FP) and would have done it more but we had to go to Illuminations. Dinosaur was the one ride that my youngest would only do once, but my son loved it. The description given above is accurate, and my son and wife enjoyed the second ride more. Neither is coaster material, but very enjoyable.
Here's a shout out to Dinosaur. I love it. It's pitch black and you get roughly driven around in a jungle and dinosaurs jump out and try to eat you. I wouldn't take small kids on it, but for adults I think it's pretty much the "scariest" dark ride at WDW.
TT is cool, but not really what I expected based on what I heard before I rode it. First, it breaks down...a lot. I've never been in line for it and it hasn't stopped at least once. The indoor portion is neat but not terribly exciting, and the big "finale" (driving outside at 65MPH) is something most people do every day so it's not terribly awe-inspiring. I like TT, just don't think it's worth the 60-90 minute waits it typically commands.
As with everything, you should try it yourself - other people's opinions are just that, and you may find yours differ signifigantly.
I just joined the forums to give Dinosour some love. Males will really enjoy this ride, not to say that females won't. It is not a roller coaster but there is one thing that the other posters didn't mention. It is very LOUD. Don't take small children. My nephew is 7 and he loved it but I saw some kids about his size crying after. Test Track is fun for all.
Dinasaur is a GREAT ride. Our family loved it!!! I wouldn't suggest it for really little kids, but it isn't roller coaster scary...just dark scary. It is really a not to be missed ride. Test Track is also great, but it tends to break down a little more often.
Finally got to try Test Track on our recent visit. It was Great!!! Even DS who is 4 really liked it, although once was enough for him. Dinosaur scared the heck out of him. Unfortunately for all of us, it broke down about 30 seconds into the ride. There we are sitting in total darkness with extremely loud roaring going on around us and the vehicle is still rocking back and forth like it's trying to move over rough terrain. Although it probably lasted only a minute, it seemed like 5. And to top it all off, it happened not once, but twice!! I have to admit it was more than a bit disorienting, and although this used to be one of my favorite rides, I got off thinking never again. I'm sure though, that our experience is not typical.
Still in all, both rides are worth trying at least once.
