We were at WDW from Nov 19 through the 25th. We only had two ADR's but added one while we were there. Here's where we ate:
Saturday Night: It has somehow become our tradition to start our vacation at WDW in DTD. We got to WDW about 5:30 since we had driven. We went to DTD before we checked in and headed to our traditional first meal, the Earl of Sandwich. I had the original which is roast beef and cheese with horseradish sauce. My wife had the Caprese which is tomato, mozzarell (buffala, the soft kind) and olive oil. My daughter the boring one had ham and cheese. We got one tomato soup to share which I might add is about the cheapest food you can buy at WDW at a whopping$.95. We all had salt and vinegar chips and drinks and it cost about $27. Overall for Disney a great meal and a great price.
Sunday we ate snacks in the room for breakfast and headed to MK for the day. We stopped at around 12:30 and ate at the Noodle Station next to Tomorrowland. I had oriental bar-b0que chicken strips and my DW and DD had the chicken teriaki bowls. Overall the were pretty good and a lot of food. The only complaint we had was that the carrots in the dishes were pretty nasty and we wound up not eating them. We also got a side of fried potstickers that were good except for the edges which were fried so hard they were hard to eat. We just tore off the edges and otherwise they were fine. Since there was no option for doggie bags we wound up throwing away a lot of food. Next time DW and DD plan to share. For dinner we thought we would try to get into Tony's without a ADR we went by at 6:00 and were told they had nothing available till 9:30. This with not that many people waiting on tables in the lobby and numerous available tables as seen through the windows. We said forget it and headed to Cosmic Rays for dinner. Good food for CS and we had chicken nuggets, a hamburger and the roast chicken dinner. My only complaint about Rays is that if everybody wants something different you have stand in three different lines. Oh well.
Monday: Breakfast in the room and off to Epcot. 1:30 lunch seating for Alfredos'. Now it has become obvious from reading here on the boards that ethier you will love it or hate it. We are one of the group that loves it. We got there at 1:26 and were seated by 1:30. It was like our table was waiting on us. DW and I shared a caprese salad, and both had the fettucini, while DD had spaghetti. We also had a half carafe of chianti. DD had tira mausi for desert, while I had the sampler and DW had the marscaponi flan with Grand Marnier sauce. All were great. The service was wonderful and we enjoyed our lunch very much. Waitress asked if we were on a dining plan and when I said no my wife said that the waitress had a look of relief on her face and was smiling. I don't know if it was because we were not on a dining plan or not but we did notice several groups around us that had the whole boat for lunch. Everyone at the table had appetizers, entrees and deserts. I think the waitstaff is getting a little overwhelmed and possibly tired of so many dining plans and are actually relieved when someone shows up not on one. Dinner was back at All star Music and my DW had the turkey and side offering which she said was great while DD went with her old standby chicken strips. I was still full from lunch and opted to sit dinner out.
Tuesday same old breakfast on on to MGM. Luch was at the Backstage Grill CS. Hamburger, Chicken strips and the grilled turkey and cheese sandwich. Overall pretty good but the best was my turkey sandwich by far. Since we got everything at MGM done by about 5:30 we checked with Guest services and found out that tonight was EMH for AK. We were not planning to go there this trip as our son was flying in Wednesday and wanted to hit the other three parks we decided to venture over there to pick up the Thanksgiving pin so we would have a complete set. We got there around 7:00 and rode primevil whirl and tried Dinosaur but it was broke so we said lets eat. We ate at the Bar-b-que place that I cannot remember the name of but it was pretty good. I had the ribs, wife had chicken and DD had the beef sandwich. The ribs were very good and tender, but not to tender so that they were falling off the bone. They were just right. Only complait were the beans, they were overcooked, mushy and had a strange taste. After dinner we tried Dinasaur again and it was still done so we headed to the resort for the night.
Wednesday: Breakfast ditto. DS got to Epcot at 12:00 and we rode a few rides then went to the WS for lunch. We ate in Japan at the CS resturant. DW and DD had chicken teriyaki Ds had beef and chicken combo while I had the udon noodles with shrimp tampura. We shared a tokoyo roll which had crab, avacodo and roe. It was good as was the other food. Dinner was at Wolfgang Pucks in DTD. We had only made the ADR two days before and the only time available was 9:30. We got there at 9:00 and were able to be seated by 9:15. We started with the yellowtail roll and the spicy tune roll. Bothe were excellent. I could easily go to Pucks and eat only rolls for dinner and be extremly happy. But we ordered dinner anyway. DW and DD had the ravioli and it was wonderful. DS had the macadamian crusted chicken breast and it also was wonderful. Being what I thought was exremely hungary I ordered the whole roast chicken with garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was great but the service lacked somewhat as the waiter had friends at a table two down from us and sopent most of his time talking with them instead of doing his job. We were so full we did'nt have any deserts.
Thursday: Breakfast Who cares? We had 2:15 ADRs for Cp in MK. I had origianlly worried because I thought MK would be to crowded on Thursday and we would not be able to do anything ride wise because of the crowds. Well it turned out okay we used FP and were able to get on everything without to many waits and showed up for our ADR's at 2:10. Again like Alfredos' we wer seated in five minutes and when we walked in there were numerous empty tables in the resturant. The dinner price was $24.99 which included drinks. Now that sounds like a lot but I must say I thought it was a fair price for the meal we got. They had roast turkey, roast chicken, prime rib, salmon, mussles, peel and eat shrimp, plus all the sides. Dressing, mashed potatoes, salad bar, and eight different deserts. It was probably the best meal we had while there. On top of that we got pictures with Pooh, Eyore, Piglet, and Tigger.
Friday: We finally eat a real breakfast!!! Granted it was in the food court at All Star Music but it was really good. DW had a Mickey waffle, DS and I had the full breakfast of eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, and a biscut.
We went back to Epcot and had an afternoon snack in China at CS, egg rolls and DD had her chicken teriyaki. We finished our trip back at DTD with our traditional last meal at Earl of Sandwich before we hit the road aroud 6:00 for home.
Overall I was very satisfied with the food and based on the way our family eats we could never get our moneys worth out of the dining plan. Certainly you get a lot of food for less than you would pay if you just paid as you went, but our tendency when we are walking and excersising as we move around the parks is to eat less than normal, not more. Even given what we did eat I came home about 5 pounds lighter than when I left. The dinning plan would have cost us $735 for the time we were there, and in the end we only spent about $590 on food and we still ate at some nice places and we were never hungry. I think the dining plan is great but not for everyone. You really have to look at how you eat as a family and decide if it really makes sense for you.
