How far do you have to add the DP? Do you MS or do you pay the resort or can pay it off prior to going? What if you are doing a split stay for example POP or CBR and then onto points BWV or AK

You can add the DP any time before check-in. I've never paid in advance, I just pay at check in. Hopping around you'll have to check with CS on how they will handle that.

make the DDP request 2 days before your check in day.

You have to make DDP arrangements prior to arrival, and the normal range you'll be quoted is 2-3 days prior. You cannot pay for it up front because your DDP is going through DVC, not regular Disney CRO. You pay at checkin.

Any time you change resorts, DVC or not, you have separate reservations for each resort. So, if you were doing a cash reservation for CBR and then a points reservation for AKV, you'd need to buy a package including room, tickets and dining for CBR, then add the DP to your points stay at AKV. Your dining credits for the CBR stay would expire at midnight on the day your checked out of CBR, so you can't carry unused credits over to your AKV stay.
