Hi Everyone! I will be taking my mom (69) and niece (16) for our first and probably only trip to WDW. During the week after Christmas next year tues. 27th- Mon Jan 2. We did DL during last year and had a good time. We are doing the Platnium Dining plan so Price isn't a problem, but the there are so many options. Where are the best places to eat? These were my ideas:
Dining:

Breakfast

Tusker House Character

O’hana Character

The Crystal Palace Character

Lunch

Tony’s Town Squre (during parade?) or Liberty Tree Tavern or Be Our Guest which 2?

Coral Reef (Candle Processional dinner)

Akershus Character

Yak and Yeti

Raglan Road Brunch at 12 on Saturday

Dinner

  • Spirit of Aloha

  • Yachtsman Steakhouse or Le Celliar (???)

  • Teppan Edo

  • California Grill (have heard mixed reviews??) or Victoria & Albert (???)
  • 1900 Park Fare Character
  • Fantasmic dinner (which Restuarant & lunch or dinner??)

Tony’s Town Squre (during parade?) or Liberty Tree Tavern or Be Our Guest which 2?

Hands down Liberty Tree Tavern and Be Our Guest

  • Yachtsman Steakhouse or Le Celliar (???)

For steak quality Yachtsman, Le Cellier is a slightly more themed atmosphere if you prefer it, but not by leaps and bounds.

  • California Grill (have heard mixed reviews??) or Victoria & Albert (???)

Ignoring cost, V&A of course, there's no better Disney restaurant.

Yes, WDW has a lot of options, but for a first and possibly only time there, I wouldn't use anything more than the basic dining plan or no plan at all. You don't want to be spending all your time eating, just finished eating or getting ready to eat again. Try to stick with 1 TS a day, maybe 2 a few times if they are really spaced out. With the way crowds are that week, you probably wouldn't fit in more than 2 things between meals or getting ready for meals.

I would especially avoid the Platinum Plan that week. Moving between parks or even resorts that week can be very difficult, and you'd be looking at 2-3 dining reservations a day in Platinum, spending most of your time either eating, or in transit.

I would honestly just go with the Deluxe plan...the platinum plan is pricey and yes it does have a ton of other perks but I don't think paying all that extra money makes it worth it. Anyways here's my theory on your dining plan:

I would drop Tony's and do Liberty Tree. Tony's food wasn't the greatest and they do get mixed reviews on the board (either you love them or you hate them and honestly I think you are just paying for the whole lady and the tramp themed restaurant)...Also If Be Our Guest is in the running for you I would recommend their dinner instead of their lunch bc you get to meet the Beast at dinner but not at lunch (besides lunch is considered a quick service location not a table service location so not really worth your dining points)

I have never had Akershus lunch but we LOVE their breakfast (plus if you make an early ADR you can get into Epcot before Park opening and thats really cool)
Coral Reef is an awesome place to eat we love seeing the fish while eating its like eating at an aquarium and the food was pretty decent too. We have never eaten at Yak & Yeti or Raglan Road but Yak & Yeti are on our must do for next trip.

Spirit of Aloha very cool...hopefully going to see it our next trip there! Never eaten at Le Cellier or Yachtsman but Le Cellier gets raved reviews on here.
Teppen Edo is a ton of fun if you keep in mind that its Disneyfied Hibachi. If you are expecting a traditional hibachi show you might be a little disappointed. I know when we first ate there my older son was a littler disappointed bc he was expecting traditional hibachi plus all the bells and whistles since we were in Disney, lol. The 2nd time we ate there he wasn't expecting all of that and had much more fun. I've heard California Grill is amazing if you time it right with the fireworks. I've never eaten there bc we have young kids and we would want to time it right with the fireworks and thats just too late lol. Victoria and Alberts is amazing I've heard (and I believe this is the restaurant where you can even get the chef's table and have a personalized menu for you and also watch your food being prepared. Very cool stuff. Just remember they do have a dress code to enter it bc it is that exclusive lol.

1900 Park Fare dinner by far is 1 of our favorite character meals. The character interaction is the best and the step sisters really get into character. It is a must do every trip for us!

Fanstamic Dinner Package really depends what you want. You are going at Christmas time so if you want to do Hollywood & Vine they have a Minnie's Seasonal dining thing that at around the time you go the characters dress up in their Christmasy attire which is pretty cool. Hollywood Brown Derby I have heard good things about but we have never eaten there. Mama Melrose was just OK for us. It was nothing fancy. When we go next year we are planning on doing the hollywood & vice Minnie's seasonal dining Fantasmic package bc my kids love the characters.

Everything looks great that you are thinking about...the only other thing that I could add for you to maybe look into and consider are Kona Cafe for Breakfast. They have amazing food there (their Tonga Toast is seriously the best thing ever, lol) and they have really good coffee as well. Also Garden Grill for Dinner has Chip and Dale and they are super Funny plus its a revolving restaurant so its always moving (pretty cool)! Anyways I hope you have an awesome trip and have fun playing around with different dining options!

I agree with the PPs concerns about the Platinum plan and whether you would be able to use all of the non meal extras. When would you have time to actually go to the parks? While I can see some slight advantage to having 3 TS meals per day during your visit, because all of WDW will be so horrendously overcrowded, I think you might want to consider the deluxe dining plan instead.

Having said that:

Breakfasts: which resort are you staying at? All of the deluxes have a TS restaurant open for breakfast. Eating at your own resort on some days will save a bit of time if you aren't eating breakfast inside a park. Also remember that most parks will be opening early that week. So you may be missing valuable (least crowded) park time while you are sitting in a restaurant.

Lunch: LTT for sure. Tonys is the worst restaurant in MK and there is little chance of getting a table with a view of the parade, especially that week. But its a better use of a dining credit than a CS restaurant. BOG is only CS for lunch so would be a waste of a dining credit. Go there for dinner, instead. You could do the Plaza or try for a walk up at Skipper Canteen (they don't take ADRs).

Dinner: SOA is held outdoors. If the weather is cold, this event may be cancelled. HDDR is held inside, and may be a better winter choice.

Yachtsman is better than Le Cellier, which contrary to a PP does not get rave reviews (and deservedly so).

Cali Grill is one of our least favorite signatures. Its crowded and very noisy and the food quality isnt what it used to be. V&As isn't included with the DxDP, if you choose to go with that plan. Citricos, Artist Point or Narcoossees are alternatives in the MK area.

Fantasmic Dinner: definitely HBD. We've eaten there several time with and without the F! Dinner package.

If the park hours are simular to this year I figured rope drop or emh and stay to lunch then other activity outside of park, and either return for late dinner and shows or park hop to late emh. I like having options but am willing to change plans once hours are posted. I just need advise on food, we are foodiesand enjoy atmosphere and charaters/ amusment. We all want to do Circe De Solie, a couple of tours (Dolphins or Aqua, Keys to the Kingdom, Behind the seeds, niece wants an afternoon at water park and mini golf, and the message couldn't hurt ;).

We just want to make sure you are hearing us. All of the above sounds great, and if it's they way you want to do your WDW vacation, then you absolutely should. However, if you do all the meals and all the extras, you will NOT do much in the way of attractions in the parks at all. By the time you factor in travel time, waiting for your table, and eating, you need to allow at least 2 hrs/meal on average, and some will require more than that. Now add in just one tour of 3-4 hrs and you've used 10 hrs of your day.

Basically, doing the things you mentioned and eating, you will not see ANYTHING in any of the parks. If that's the way you tour, that's absolutely fine. Just want to make sure you understand that. You are going during THE busiest week of the year and dedicating a good 8 hours of your day (including travel and wait times) to eating each day. Add in tours, mini golf, massages, Cirque, and water parks and you've left no time for the actual theme parks. Again, if that's your expectation, go for it. If you think you're still going to see any park shows or ride a single ride, you might need to rethink things.

I wasn't discounting your advice, and Thank you for your help! Yeah I do understand, I am not completely set on it either... I figured have it as a place holder, research and talk to others, check out hours once posted and make must do reservations... We are staying at the Compentorary, and we do have some diabetic issues, so we do need the meals. idk, guess I am just in disney overload. I was thinking that we would skip the rides we have done before, unless special or holiday themed, and focus on the different rides and characters. I thought it was a good idea that if we have extra meal you could use the for gift snacks. I though an ealry lunch/ brunch, a snack, and a late dinner would work best for us

I will echo what others are saying. If you have never been, you just can't comprehend the logistics of getting around WDW. Our first trips to a Disney property were to DLR when my kids were very young, expressly for that reason-it could not have been easier to walk back and forth between the GCH and DP and of course DCA was right downstairs. It was fantastic with a 2 year old that was taking daily naps. When we finally went to WDW for the first time, my kids were a bit older and I was soooo glad we waited-I could not believe how more involved and time consuming the traveling around was compared to DLR-and our first five trips were spent at BC or YC, so it is not like we were off property. Having since stayed yearly at deluxe resorts, it still takes a while every time to remember how to get where we need to be. And, we have never been during the busiest week of the year which will add lots of time/stress to getting around. The wait for buses, monorails, boats, entry and bag check lines, even just checking in for your ADRS will all be compounded by the masses of people.

For a first timer, I think your best bet is to make as simple a plan as possible-eat TS meals at your resort or at the park you will be in, skip Disney Springs-there is so much else to do and see that is a better use of your time, IMO. Yes, La Nouba is great, but the trip there, plus a meal, the show and travel time back and forth will easily use up most of a day. Any dinner show will be at least a 2 hour experience, excluding travel time. As pp have said, adding in all the other activites, you will be lucky to get one attraction in a day.

All that said, we have done both Spirit of Aloha and HDDR more than once and much preferred HDDR for both the food and the show.

Tony's is awful, especially if you are a foodie. The food is much better at LTT and BOG.

California Grill is not the restaurant it once was- before the rehab, it was our absolute favorite, since we have been twice and thought it the biggest waste of money we ever spent in WDW with the exception of Coral Reef-horrible food. Many better choices in Epcot like Les Chefs de France, Tutto Italia, Rose & Crown. V&A is exceptional-on par with any top restaurant in NYC or San Francisco, etc.

Tusker House and 'Ohana breakfasts are must do every trip for us. We do not care for CP.

If I had to choose between the two, I would pick Yachtsman over Le Cellier, but unlike many here, we still enjoy Le Cellier.

HBD and Mama Melrose are both good choices for the Fantasmic package-we tend to do lunch at Mama Melrose with the show and save dinner at HBD for a night we are not seeing Fantasmic so as not to rush through a dinner there as it is a slower paced, more "fine dining" type of meal-more suited to a regular hour dinner than a lunch or early dinner, IMO.

We love Yak & Yeti and eat there twice every trip.

Some final thoughts. Keep in mind that character meals will always take longer than regular meals. In my experience, we have never been seated on time at 'Ohana, Tusker House, Mama Melrose, LTT and BOG. Many others always run behind as well. You also have to factor that into your time spent eating.

You are going the busiest week of the year!!! Hours are likely to be 7 AM up to, at some parks, 3AM. Travel time can be 2 -3 hours. Ride lines can be up to 2 or 3 hours per ride. If you have been to DL you have done some of the rides in the MK. There are also 3 additional parks in Orlando.
I think we are all trying to tell you that you simply can't fit all you want to do in that week.
Of course if you still want to try - Good Luck and you are correct to make all your ADR's. Check out the menus here and at allears.net
