Dinner Shows - Upgrade Possible?

If we attend the Spirit of Aloha or Hoop-Dee-Doo Dinner Shows using dining plan credits, is it possible to pay the difference and upgrade seating to Category 1?

Its a good question and sadly I don't have the answer but I can tell you with the DDP you can get Cat. 1 at Hoop Dee Doo for he 9:30pm show only. Its well worth it if you guys are somewhat of night owls.

I called a couple times asking about this and was told the answer is NO. If using the dining plan, you can only get category 2 or 3 seating. I asked if I could pay the difference (only $5 or $7) and was told no.

Please complain. I did. This is another example of treating dining plan users differently and poorly in comparison to people not on the dining plan.

I'm paying a lot extra for the "Deluxe" dining plan but still cannot get category 1 unless I pay for the whole meal with a credit card.

If I have to, I'll do that, but then, we will have to find 2 more table service meals to eat -- and well, I don't want to spend all my time at Disney eating and getting fat!

I had this same question. I really want to do the dinner show, but on the online reservations system for the dates I'm going to be there, there are only reservations available for Cat. 1 seating.

That stinks!

If anyone happens to see a reservation for anytime between 9/22-9/25 in Cat 2 or 3 seating, let me know!!

No you can't just pay the difference for the upgrade. Either use DDP credits for cat 2 & 3 seating or pay cash for the whole meal if you want cat 1 seating. Which is what I had to do last year.....and since it was such a hit - we are doing again this year!

Ideally you wrote to Disney with this complaint, given that the reservationists - the CMs who told you this couldn't be done - have no say in the policies?

Yes, that's one of the conditions of the Dining Plans - credits are valid only on certain seating options at the dinner shows.

Dining Plan credits have no redeemable-for-cash value, therefore it is more than reasonable that cash cannot be combined with a credit to allow upgraded seating at a dinner show. As indicated above, Tier 1 seating IS available at the 9:30 show, if such seating is desired.
