Dinner show for allergies?

Booking my ADRs and have a quick question.

My mom is gluten, dairy, egg, soy, legume-free. She eats anything else and isn't picky. We've never had an issue.

I'm gluten-free (celiac), dairy-free (allergy), and vegan.

Would any dinner shows accomodate this? The only one I can think that might even start to be vegan friendly would be the Aloha. Is it worth it?

Hmmmm..... This is a tough one. We've eaten at HDDR twice and SoA once.

We ended up having to leave SoA well before the fire dancers because DD11 ended up with a bad tummy ache. I didn't figure out the reason why until I was speaking with chef Dan from Pop in preparation for our next trip some months later. I hadn't realized that there was orange citrus fiber in the Ener-G buns and she had eaten 3 of them at this dinner (the chef missed that; does this inspire confidence?). The chef I think grilled up some chicken and made some rice and served a salad. I would think he would prepare some grilled veggies for you but I'm not sure what else.

We've had good experiences at HDDR but I'm not sure about the options. The ribs at least without sauce should be safe for your mom; I'm not sure if there is soy in the sauce but the rub I believe would be safe. The chef will gladly customize the salad if it's not already safe (I can't remember). There's bacon in the beans so it's not vegan so they're out for you and your mom can't have legumes so it's out for her. They won't make fried chicken that's allergy safe but they will do safe grilled or roasted chicken for your mom (can't recall which it is but it wasn't breaded). Obviously that isn't safe for you. The corn bread has milk and gluten. They'll probably offer you Ener-G buns. If you check the vegan threads I'm sure there'll be mention of what they serve to vegans but I don't have any experience with it so I don't know myself. I'm not sure how the vegan options go over with allergies. I do know that they do SOMETHING for vegans. I'm sure you could get a whole lot of strawberries and some Rice Dream ice cream (I know they have Tofutti; I think they also offered Rice Dream).

Geez, I'm not much help here, am I?

No, you're actually a ton of help! I think that I just wanted to do one, but you're right, they don't sound too promising.

If I did end up with something like rice and veggies, are the shows good enough to make up for it, in your opinion?

We didn't get to see what I understand to be the best part of SoA. The part we saw I don't consider worth the price. In hindsight, I'm kind of ticked we paid for the show and the reason we couldn't see it was because the chef wasn't diligent enough but it's in the past. I'm not sure I'd consider the SoA show alone to be worth the price of admission.

HDDR is a really fun show. That one I might consider. I'd try searching the big vegan thread on the restaurant board to find out what they typically make for vegans at HDDR. It should be clear whether or not that can be modified to be safe for you. Your mom should be able to eat the ribs and chicken.

As a vegan, can drink wine? I'm asking because you can get all you can drink wine and beer at both shows. That might make up for the lack of food. LOL They probably both have Redgbridge beer though I would confirm this with Special Diets (I'd ask specifically about the show you're considering so they can contact the restaurant itself to confirm). If it's safe for you, it's a pretty good tasting beer as far as beers go. DH who isn't gluten free has dipped into the Redbridge I've got sitting in our fridge at home and agrees that it really does taste like a regular beer. It's made from sorghum instead of barley.

Thanks! Very good to know. I searched both on YouTube, too, to check it out. I read that the vegetarian/vegan alternative at Hoop Dee Do is pasta with marinara. Though they probably have gluten-free pasta, I'd much prefer something else. I emailed Special Diets and will call, too, to see how accommodating they are.

I don't drink, but mostly because it bothers my celiac and because I'm under testing for Crohn's, too - I try to eat as simply as possible. I know it won't be simple in Disney, but alcohol tends to exacerbate it. But maybe, just maybe, they'll have it figured out by then and I can have a beer. I'd love to have a beer!

The negligence at Aloha bothers me, too, so I think I might go for the Hoop. I'm going to forward my mom the videos and see what she thinks!

Thank you so much!

I think Hoop Dee DOo would be great for you. Mom can have ribs, salad, and as other have stated they'll make whatever you need. I had great grilled chicken and some stir fried zucchini that was AWESOME plus ribs and a special salad (allergic to carrots). Can't remember the official vegan option (not sure about protein...) but they definitely can handle cooking you something on the fly. They share a kitchen with trails end buffet so they have lots and lots of ingredients to work with. The way the meal is paced it gives them time to make the special stuff so you don't have to wait.

We have done HDDR, SoA, and Backyard BBQ and DD is no dairy. All 3 were fine, but the BBQ (2011) was the most accommodating. DD saw another allergy girl who had divies cookies and we asked the chef for some, they had not originally gotten them since there were popcicles as well as ice cream, but the chef sent some one to get her some.

Overall we found the food at SoA (2011) very disappointing, but they did manage to get DD a hot dog even though they are not on the menu. They also have the tapioca rolls.

HDDR (2010) was very nice, but they did not offer to go get any foods not on their menu so DD ate tapioca rolls and corn for dinner and no one offered us the pasta.

I've done SOA with nut allergy. They were good, it was noted on our reservation so they had a separate plate of food for me, different dessert.

I've been to HDDR and we are doing SoA in December.

Disney is the best place to have an allergy because they are so accomodating. I've been there 10 times and have never had a mishap where I've gotten sick from eating something I shouldn't have.

We usually speak with Special Diets before we go and let them know of any ADR's. When making the ADR, we note the allergy and also confirm it when checking in. As soon as we are seated, we tell the watier and they immediately get the Chef to talk to us. It's really nice because then you can be sure the information doesn't get lost in the shuffle since you are talking to the person that actually prepares the food.

HDDR brought me out a special plate and salad and I usually always get Rice Dream for dessert.
