Dinner Restaurants Hilton Head

Just finishing long weekend on HHI!

Red Stripe - Jamaican take out... Sorry, really didn't think it was that good... I think we were the only order, plus take out... Maybe would have been better if we ordered in.

Scotts - Good! Baked scallops! I think what made it so good was they have a BOGO entree deal till end of February 😀

Low Country Backyard. Savory! Good. Shrimp and grits... Meatloaf. They had a dinner sampler with those, fried green tomatoes, choice of side and dessert... For $20. Lots of food.
Thanks for the heads up about the coupon at Scott’s.

Great thread. Couple questions. Does Ela have any option for picky (non sea food) little eaters?

Also does Scott’s take reservations (don’t see offered online) or are walkins easy?

Thank you

Ok, so you have me interested. This sounds amazing! I went to their website, and I see this has been added. It's called a Backyard Sampler. It lists fried green tomatoes, shrimp & grits, potato chip meatloaf, and choice of two side dishes. No mention of a dessert. Are you sure that was included? Also the price that is shown is $44.95, but that is for two. Did you just divide the price in half to come up with $20? Can you get it for one person? We love all of these things, so we'd be interested in trying this on our next trip.

I'm also interested in that Backyard Sampler. What I'm wondering is-is each item enough for two? If so, this might not work-I'm not interested in Fried Green Tomatoes, and DH isn't interested in potato chip meatloaf (he avoids beef). However, if I eat all the meatloaf, it might be too much. Has anyone been who's had it?

That's what is great about the DVC rooms. If there are leftovers, just take them back to reheat the next day.

Those are 2 different options! Good eye. We went intending to get the $45 sampler, but they had another 'specials' menu ( it was laminated, so probably more than just that day ). We did go for late lunch... So it's possible the $20 deal was lunch only. Here's a pic ... ( Dessert came later ... Hehe, just realized DW ate half her meatloaf before I could get pic taken ...)

I guess the portion sizes could be different on the $45 platter.

Those portions look huge! That's an amazing deal!!! I'm betting this is just an off-season special. Not sure they would have such a good deal when we are there in October. But we may check it out. Thanks for the info!

Yesterday we walked up to Scott’s around 5, and nothing was available inside, but outside with heaters and plastic walls down we got the last table for two. We made dinner reservations for Friday before we left. The food was good, the BOGO coupon was definitely worthwhile to have. We do want to eat inside on Friday, so we made a 5:30/reservation.

Did need jackets on outside.

We had it last year, and each item was enough for one. I must say that DH didn’t really think the Potato chip meatloaf was anything special, I tried it, just OK IMO, he wouldn’t get it again. I liked the Shrimp and Grits well enough. I think we did have dessert.

The backyard was not easy to maneuver for me. I use a cane.

OP here, and I’m back from our trip to HHI. Wanted to add our dining here for others watching this thread.

Hickory Tavern, lunch. Bar food, but enjoyable. I had the lobster roll, enjoyed it. Good local beer selection.

Poseidon, all really enjoyed. The filet was “good, not great” per one diner, but add on scallops made up for it. My shrimp and grits were outstanding. Server was wonderful. Sat outside and enjoyed to cool night air.

Tio’s Latin Kitchen lunch. Basic Tex Mex type menu. Enjoyable, but not memorable.

Guissepis Italian. Really good, red sauce type Italian place. 3 of us split pizza, all 3 enjoyed. Crust was like a NY style crust. I had chicken parm and was really happy with the choice.

British Open Pub, lunch. Was ok, but it’s basic pub food. Hamburger was the standout here.

Nicks, dinner. Really enjoyed this place. Great service, seems like everyone in there but us knew the staff. I had the grilled shrimp and scallops, very good. My wife enjoyed her NY strip.

Top Dawg Tavern, lunch. Packed on Sunday lunch. Live music outside. Good bar food, lively scene. Right across marina from resort.

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have.

About British Open Pub-how was the temperature in there? The last couple times we went, it was freezing inside! In the mid-70s outside, so I think that they had the air conditioning turned way up. But I do remember that it was a great place for Good Friday dinner. All the regular seafood places were packed, but British Open Pub, not traditionally big on seafood, had a fish and chips special that was excellent.

I second the scallops, I get them every time we go!

I’m assuming it was comfortable, since I don’t remember myself, or anybody else being cold. If my wife was cold, as she often is, I am the one going to the car to get her sweater, and I didn’t make that trip 😀

Has anyone been to Nunzio? I made a reservation there and also at Ela’s. Thinking about Poseidon for our first night (Friday) or maybe just walking around and looking for something that attracts us. Thoughts? Also, looking for brunch /breakfast recommendations!

Poseidon is great!
We try to ride our bikes there from DHHIR since it is close and nice ride. (weather permitting)

We always eat breakfast/brunch on the resort and dinner out while at DHHIR.

We were there late January and enjoyed it. Good service, nice wine selection including by the glass. We took advantage of their early dining menu.

We also really enjoyed The Jazz Corner. Food and entertainment were both very good / enjoyable.

Would do both again.

If you love live music and are over 40: The Jazz Corner
(yes, there were younger people there, I'm just kidding)
Food isn't bad and the music and room are fantastic!!

Another question regarding attire/dress codes. I have noticed most of the restaurants state they have a “casual resort” dress code. It seems jeans and flip flops are not allowed in many restaurants, is this true?

No, it is not true. Very few restaurants have any sort of actual dress code, and given this is a beach/coastal marsh--we call it "low country"--vibe, restaurants would be hard-pressed to keep customers if they enforced any sort of attire. Jeans, shorts, t-shirts, casual tops, sandals, tennis shoes, and yes, flip-flops are fairly standard at nearly every venue. The only ones where you might feel out of place (and I doubt they'd turn you away, regardless) would be some place like OMBRA Cucina and Michael Anthony's (two very lovely Italian restaurants), or perhaps the French-style cafe, Charlie's L'Etoile Verte. All of these are down in or near the Wexford area of HHI, about five minutes away from the resort. They're all very good (OMBRA is the best), and while they don't make a big deal about what casual wear is, you don't see many people in shorts and t-shirts dining inside. Generally, for those places, patrons wear slacks, jeans, pullover or button shirt, and the like. I have worn jeans (what I'd call casual nice jeans), a short-sleeve button shirt, and shoes without socks to each of these. While there, I've noticed similar dress from others along with dress shirts, slacks, and dresses.

Most restaurants, especially those with outdoor seating, are fully aware that their business thrives on welcoming customers, so at places like Hudson's, Skull Creek, Fishcamp, Poseidon, and countless others, shorts, decent tops, and open-toes shoes are absolutely okay. Hope this helps!
