I was checking out ebay when I ran across this auction: July 4th Dinner Reservation in Disney Castle starting bid 75.00. Is that legal? Sorry if I offend anyone, but trying to SALE your reservations???? That's sad. Is this common?

I don't know how it can be. We ate in LTT last July 4th and we only had our ps number. I know that when you make a ps for a holiday time such as Easter WDW ask for a CC number, just in case you are a no show. If e-bayer is charging $75, how do they know how much $$$ your check is going to come to?

I would stay well away from it, sounds very strange!!!

Sounds like they're not paying for your meal. They are just charging you for the reservation time itself.

I'd report it to eBay. WDW does not charge for a PS, except for CRT and that's a deposit towards the meal itself.

A PS time for a holiday needs a credit card number to guarantee it. The name on the card MUST match the name on the PS. Whether the restaurant checks for a match is doubful however.

Mommy Poppins is right it's not for your meal...just the reservations. The auction is from a brand new user. I just couldn't believe someone would selling reservations.

People sell anything and everything on Ebay! Someone was once auctioning tickets (or vouchers) to ride in the front of the WDW monorail!

I did report it after Scottwdw posted his reply. I'll drop one to the seller. I understand all kinds of people on Ebay will sell all kinds of things, but to have someone call for reservations and turn around to auction...that's not right. It's a free service from Disney. If people started doing this I'd never get a PS.

Not to mention that anyone who shows up for a PS at cindy's 20 minutes before fireworks start is not going to get a table until after the fireworks are over. We had a PS for an HOUR before the first round of fireworks were to start on NYE at Cindy's and basically the CM's said that starting at 2 hours before the fireworks, no one in that restaurant budged from their table until after the fireworks. The entire restaurant emptied right after and the packed lobby replaced them. It was somewhat disappointing for us but we ran over to the carousel to watch the fireworks and then came back.

I emailed the seller and told her I was disgusted and she should be ashamed of herself. I think we should all write.

I also emailed Ebay and the seller - she should really be ashamed of herself. The auction is a joke because she can't guarantee that the winner will be seated for this "once in a lifetime opportunity" before the fireworks start or if they will even be seated where they can see them. It's just exploiting people who don't understand how PS works. Thanks for letting everyone know about it - I agree that EVERYONE should email this person so she gets the idea not to do it again!

I tried to send an e-mail to the seller but got an error message.
It stated that the seller was having problems receiving e-mails.
Is it possible that the seller could turn off e-mails through e-bay ?
Not sure if this is even possible , but I'm sure she's been inundated with nasty e-mails. Good work all !!
Maybe we can prevent some other jerk from doing this in the future.

I noticed that no one has bid on it as yet, hopefully no one will fall for the scheme.

*********** UPDATE ************

The seller wrote me back - here is the letter

==========

FYI, you can sell a reservation because I in fact bought the reservation from a seller on e-bay a week ago, when he told me in his statement that the reservations were impossible to get.

Little did I know, that when I called Disney, I found out that I could still get a reservation, and I was in fact told that I just booked the last one. So, it is sold out, and if you want to get a reservation now, you have no shot, unless someone sells it.

I am a college student who bought the reservation for $125, and am actually doing a good deed by pricing it so low, willing to incur a $50 loss.

Maybe you should get all the facts straight before attacking people. As someone in college, I cannot afford to lose $125 and not get anything in return.

Actually, I see this as an opportunity for someone to make their Disney experience better.

I am a Florida resident and go to Disney at least once a year and jumped at the chance to get a 4th of July reservation in Cinderella's castle.

So I don't think it's a sad thing to do at all. If you don't like it, don't bid on it.

**************UPDATE***************

I go the same response - I have a feeling that everyone who emailed her will get the same basic response. Now granted, I have never made a "guaranteed reservation" at Cinderella's Royal Table - but wouldn't the guaranteed reservation have to be reserved with a cc? And if so how would another person be able to use it? Just a thought. Still don't see how a guaranteed reservation would guarantee you seeing the fireworks, etc. They can't know how long it will take others to eat and they can't kick you out of the restaurant before you are done just to seat others. Additionally, why would this person be so "nice" and sell this for a $50.00 loss? Why would you buy something off ebay then turn around and resell it for $50.00 less? Makes no sense to me - either way here's the response...

This kind of thing burns me up. I took the high road and ignored the selling of the front seat at the monorail, but this one got to me so I emailed the seller. Here's what I said:

Nice.
If anyone is stupid enough to buy this, I hope they check ID at the
podium and find out it doesn't match the name on your credit card that
you had to give when you made the reservation. It's a free country and
eBay will allow people to sell anything, but have you no shame at all?

And here's what I got back:

Hey smarty, we're sending the confirmation # and you can call and put
the reservation in your own name. And, bye the way, we didn't have to
leave a credit card # when we made the new reservation. Nice work
Sherlock.

Whatever. I seriously doubt that (s)he didn't leave a credit card #. And BYE THE WAY? I wonder how they got into college - nice spelling.:p

I wonder how many emails this person got. I checked out the original auction that apparently she bought the reservation from and it had 7 bidders! Almost all of them however were new. The person selling the original reservation had only 1 review as well. I hope no one buys this thinking they are getting what the seller claims as they will probably be very disappointed. This kind of thing drives me crazy!! :( Does Ebay usually allow this kind of auction - I mean considering that it really isn't what it seems?

although I'd never sell or buy the PS, I'd call it entrepeneurism & capitalism at its finest. No one is being forced to buy anything. If someone really wants it badly enough, they'll pay. It is what the market will bear. No problems here with it. Don't like it or want it, don't buy it. If no one buys it, then the market says he made a bad investment. If it gets too common, I'm sure Disney will put a stop to it....photo ID, etc...
