Dinner reservations for sale?????

Sellers reply:
"FYI, you can sell a reservation b/c I in fact bought the reservation from a seller on e-bay a week ago"

Sorry, all this proves is that this poster SUPPOSEDLY bought a reservation via ebay. Sorry, that ain't proof enough for this 'mother of 2, eyes of blue'. On the same note, this poster must not be seeking a degree in finance if he's willing to just hand over $50 on a reservation he supposedly bought. What sense does this make? Buy a reservation for $125...sell it for $75...and claim 'goodness of my heart, po' widdle college student'.

Sounds like snake oil to me.

As for this being capitalism at its finest, and no, no one's forcing me to buy, but when I'm on a budget and am trying to get my money's worth from Disney, I don't want to have to pay some one else for one of the few services at Disney that is still free. Sorry, but this belle smells a rat...

So, what would any self-respecting lasy do? I emailed the House of Mouse via disney.com. No response yet, but I'll keep y'all posted.

Just e-mailed the seller. Noticed that there are only 13 hours to go and no one has fallen for this scam.

Hey, I have a VERY HARD TO GET PS for 'Ohana on Saturday, July 12th at 6pm for 10 people, that's right! 10 people! Very hard to get a table for that many! I had to really work that CM over at WDW Dine...

BUT, for all you NICE people, I'll offer it up to the highest bidder starting at, say... ummm... how 'bout $500? Isn't that a steal? Oh, but please remember two things:

1. The price doesn't include your meal.

and...

2. This is a joke! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Some people are born suckers... I think s(he) got suckered into purchasing it and just wants to make back some of the money... that's why s(he) is reselling it at a lower cost. Oh Well...

I too got a response from the seller, here it is,

"If you think its so easy to get it why don't you call wdw dine and see if you can get reservations for the Fourth of July. _After you call and they tell you that they have no other tables you can write me back. This is also a big mis understanding and the auction will be taken of ebay. So mind your own business and if you don't like an auction don't bid. Your stupid e mails don't do a thing".

I think that it’s totally sleazy, but it certainly is a good example of “let the buyer beware.” How could anyone be so dumb as to buy that? Wouldn’t they at least call Disney first and see if they could get a reservation without cost and at least confirm with Disney that they’re guaranteed a window seat? But I guess if someone really can't get a reservation and wants one badly enough that they're willing to pay $75, that's their prerogative. It never ceases to amaze me what people will buy.

Wow minniespal - what a nasty letter ! she seems to be increasingly angry the more people write her LOL

Now that I know the whole story - I sort of feel sorry for her - she was taken to the cleaners paying 122.50 for a "PS" - now she is trying to recoup her loss and we are all ganging up on her.

I think she will have a hard time selling this PS - there can't be that many more people out there that fall for it!

>>^..^<<

I don't know -- P.T. Barnum said "There's a sucker born every minute." There's probably somebody out there willing to pay for this -- but so far, no one has.

>>^..^<<

I'm with you, a feel a little sorry for her too. I like ebay but I think that this incident has reminded us all to be a little more careful!!!

I feel kinda sorry for her, too, but not completely. First of all, if she was taken advantage of on eBay, she should take it up with her credit card company, the original seller, eBay and Square Trades. The last thing she should do is try and pass off her mistake on to someone else. Furthermore, she totally embellised the listing - when she bought it, it was described as 8:40 PS at CRT on July 4th; now suddenly the buyer is guaranteed a front row seat and memories of a lifetime? Whatever. If WDW wanted to sell PSs, they would. They love money, remember?:teeth: So it's not up to some greedy opportunist to sell what is intended to be a free service to one company's customers.

My bf made a good point, though. We oughta be ganging up on the original seller of the PS.

Anyway, it's almost over and no one bid on it.

Yes I see. I still think it's sad for her to try and pass off her mistake to someone else. I guess if someone else is stupid enough to buy it that's their business. I don't feel sorry for her. When on ebay you have to do your research and being that the 1st seller had a complaint filled on them and Ebay it's self was trying to help with recovery. That's a red flag to me not to do business with them.

My main complaint is taking the free service from Disney and a third party selling it. Granted this is only one. I would hope this won't happen again, but who knows. Our vactions are only for so long. We have a short window to get those hard to get PS for our vacations. I would hate to think I wasn't getting them because of this issue.

You know what's weird? We were there on Memorial Day. We were having dinner at LTT and there was no one there... there were no crowds AT ALL that day. I asked our server about it and how funny that he mentioned that Memorial Day AND 4th of July were some of the slowest days of the year!!! He said he thought families got together instead of going to WDW.

I'm sorry this person was duped by someone else, but hello? Buyer beware!! Know what you're bidding on!!

The auction has closed... I think by the seller because usually when ebay ends an auction, you'll get an "invalid" page.

I don't understand why you are all writing her..and I wonder at what point whe will start reporting you all to eBay for harrassment and those of you with accounts will end up suspended. Harrassment and spam is against eBay rules. The "write to seller" is suppose to be used to ask questions about the auction..not to harrass the seller.

It's been reported by several of you..why not let eBay handle it. Apparently it's not illegal, since after all the reports, eBay didn't shut down the auction.

While I would never think to sell reservations, I would also never think to buy them..but she did, and as a new seller, saw nothing wrong with it. If eBay hasn't written her to tell her they were closing the auction, while we may think it's unethical, immoral, etc etc, it looks like it's not unlawful...prob not a lot different than the person who is selling the ghost in a jar..do you think there really is a ghost? Or the people selling their old sneakers to others with a foot fetish. Buyer beware on eBay..if you don't care for an auction don't bid, if you think there is something illegal, report it..but that's really all that should be done...let eBay take care of it IMO.

It ran it's full 3 days..look at the times starting and ending..they are the same to the second. She didn't cancel it early and eBay didn't shut it down.

That was over three years ago LOL...and believe me, eBay does nothing to help, other than send a notice, when someone doesn't pay you.

You are right..you do have to do your research, but sometimes people get caught up in the excitement of an auction and overbid. This gal must have been a newbie to Disney as well, and thought that was the only way to get one of the hard to get ressies. Maybe someone should invite her over here on the board, so she can learn about DW and how to save money and get ressie's.

Your correct it was a long time ago...but I'm not too forgiving when it comes to my money.

I definately agree with getting caught up in the excitement. My best friend is addicted and will out bid you to the end. I would say her name but I 'm sure someone would know her. I know ebay is big, but she all over that site.

Your right...this child probably would benefit from this board....Maybe we should invite her. She could probably make up for that bad purchase on ebay over on the budget board.

Actually, there are few things *more* Disneylike than trying to make money via free-enterprise.

While the seller may not be exactly the most above-board individual around, the name-calling in this thread seems pretty childish itself. I'd like to think we can hold ourselves to a high standard.

Hi Cigar - you are right that really does not look so good now! Especially since I know she was taken advantage of herself.. poor girl - she is never going to recoup that loss.

===========

BTW - I do think eBay would have cancelled the auction eventually - but didn't have a chance - the seller only had it up for 3 days instead of the usual 7.

I report people selling the "link" to connections vouchers all the time and it usually take a good 4 or 5 days before the auction is cancelled - I guess there is a big backlog of "shady" auctions to check out.

When I reported this auction - I received a note that it had already been reported and did I want to continue. Somebody beat me to it.

On reflection - I wish I had seen the first auction whenthe PS sold for 122.50... ouch.

Thanx for your comments

I've been all over eBay rules, and I just can't see where what either of them did was against eBay rules (you can't sell links, so I understand why the Connections voucher link is a no-no..no problem finding that rule). I posted it on a power seller live chat and none of them think it is against the rules either (eBay rules..I'm sure it's against Disney's..since it's suppose to be in your own name..but I'm just talking eBay here). In fact some could see why it would be sellable..it would save you many long distance calls, and early morning tries and disappointment. One girl said if you have the ressie number you can call and change the name..she was given a ressie and did that. I guess not wanting these ressie's, I don't realize how hard they can be to get..especially that time of year. One girl went so far as to say if it comes back up, she would bid.

I'm curious, and don't have one to look at (or the paperwork that came with them anymore..although I just rejoined today, so I will have soon)..do the connection vouchers that sell on the Disboard auctions and ebay (by some of our ouwn Diser's) say no transferring? I thought the paperwork somewhere said that they were for your own personal use..

Hi - it is definately not black and white - it is a grey area..

eBay strictly prohibits the selling of travel reservations - this is not "really" travel - but is a reservation

"tickets and events" selling is in the "questionable" section

Sellers can't sell tickets for more then $1.00 over face value - this is to prevent scalpers. This is an event, even if it's free.

eBay also has "promotional/free items" in the questionable category...

But all this really does not matter as in Spring 2002 I complained bitterly of a seller selling "breakfast with the princesses" at CRT for $25.00 a reservation - he/she had about 10 auctions up for tables for 2 or 4 for different days... eBay cancelled all these auctions and I never saw that seller again - they were a zero feedback rating seller with sunglasses! sheesh
