OK, now that FD has come out I'm not even sure if I can get an ADR, but I have one day that I didn't plan anything and was looking for a suggestion so I can call later today and try. We are staying at POR and this day we are planning to be at AK when it opens till about 3pm. We will eat something quick there and then dinner later. I was thinking we'd go back to the resort for a while and swim, then shower and go to DTD for dinner and to walk around. Any suggestions for a TS?

We do like Earl of Sandwich and WP Express so if we didn't do a TS that day it would be fine (we have one 2 credit meal so I used all of the FD credits anyway this meal would be OOP). The other options would be to book a TS before we leave AK or to eat at Boatwrights at the hotel before going to DTD. What do all of the restaurant experts think? What would you do? My family is not terribly fussy and enjoys most of the restaurants we have tried. Oh and this is August we are talking about, on a Wednesday. Thanks!

DH & I ate at Boatwrights last trip and loved it. The meal was good, the dessert yummy and the cornbread fantastic (I'm a cornbread nut!). The service was a little slow, but we really enjoyed the restaurant.

Wolfgang Puck's is always good, as is the Earl of Sandwich. We did not care for Cap'n Jack's when we were there. The location was great - we had a great view of Downtown and enjoyed watching the show at the little outdoor theatre from across the water (everyone doing the Thriller dance was funny to watch). The food was mediocre - we both thought the menu was very limited and the meal was just ok.

DH loved House of Blues (if you can't use DDP, they have $25 gift certificates available on restaurants.com for $10).

We are doing House of Blues after one of our AK days. Staying at POFQ so we can just get the boat back when we are done. Since it is not a Dining Plan restaurant it should be easier to snag a ressie at short notice, unless you wanted to use dining credits.

I would also recommended HOB with the restaurant.com GC but look for the codes. I got my $25 one for 2.00

If you are leaving AK at 3:00 PM, you could return to your resort, relax, and then take a nice boatride from POR to DTD. We really liked Fulton's Crab House, although a little pricey. Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex at DTD are good. My dds (8,5) liked rainforest over T-Rex, as they are girls and not really into dinosaurs as much. I am not a big planet hollywood fan, but girls liked it.

Or, if you really like boats, take a boat from POR to DTD, then a boat back to OKW. There is a great restaurant at OKW - Olivia's. They have steak, seafood, and my girls had a really great time. Or, take a boat from POR to DTD to SSR and eat at the Turf Club. They have the best Prime Rib I have eaten anywhere, although my girls had more fun at Olivia's. Then boat back to DTD for some dessert at Ghiaradhelli's or Haagen-danz (sp).

Another option may be to try the restaurants at AK Lodge. Maybe not go back to the resort and eat at AK Lodge (short bus ride over) and then go back and swim that night. AK Lodge has Jiko (signature dining) and Boma. Both are really good. There is also a rainforest cafe outside the entrance to AK.

As for FD, we have found that even if you call and can't get an ADR, don't give up hope. There are still many that will overbook reservations, only to cancel them months, weeks, or days before their trip. We have even been able to get a CRT breakfast reservation the day before by calling ourselves. Good luck and have a great trip.

We are having a similar day when we go. We're going to Animal Kingdom, then are are doing a late dinner at Boatwright's when we come back to the hotel.
