Dinner clothes?

I'm sure this has been covered NUMEROUS times, but in the first 3 pages, I didn't see it... so I have to ask.

My boss just booked a cruise - leaving this Saturday... and he asked about the "no jeans" rule for dinner... having only a daughter I didn't run into this problem (since it's SO easy just to grab a sundress for her). Are jeans on young boys DEFINITELY a no-no? Should they really plan on bringing dress pants, tie, etc for a 5 and a 3 year old?

Dockers, khaki's, cordoroy pants all work well. I don't think you need dress shirts and ties for most nights, but a nice polo shirt or hawaiian shirt always look cute!

I have to agree with cotomom - I have two boys (5 & 8) and we did tan and navy dress pants (like Dockers), polo-type shirts, and a hawaiian shirt. We just mixed and matched pants and shirts -- threw them in the dryer if they got mussed from the night before. I'd say - leave the ties at home. Even my DH didn't wear a tie.
Note: we have only done the 3 and 4 day cruises

Ditto...kids don't need a shirt and tie or a suit. Some kids will be dressed this way. However, any pants and polo shirt will be fine, as will a decent t-shirt (character or whatever.) On formal nights, some kids are a lot more dressed up than others. Navy or tan pants and a shirt will get you anywhere. You husband will need a jacket for Palo's...otherwise tie is optional.

Formal night you will see everything from guys in tux, suits, to dress pants and a polo. Women will be in the dressiest of formals to a basic pantsuit.

Even dress shorts are ok for young kids, although they do ask that we not wear shorts to dinner. Older kids will be in long pants.

When we cruised in Sept, didn't see jeans on the little boys...they all did the khaki pants/nice shirt thing. The boys looked so adorable.
