I read in a Disney Tour book that if you eat dinner at the Hollywood Brown Derby or Mama Melrose's you get a voucher for entrance into Fantasmic.

Is this the case? If yes what restaurant would you reccommend and what time does"dinner" start?

Yes, it's true! Fantasmic is a wonderful nighttime show that packs in the crowds and the dinner package is a way to get a seat in the theater without waiting in long lines or sitting for an hour inside before the show starts. We did this last year at Mama Melrose's, and had a wonderful dinner, had time for a couple of rides, then sat down in great seats 20 minutes before the show started.
Some people have said that if you're going during a slow time, you don't need to do the package. The seats for the package are also not front and center, but are off to the side. But we thought the seats were fine.
Hope this helps, and have a great trip!

We've done it both ways, with the package and without.
With the package during a peak season so you don't have to worry about getting a seat. Mama's was our choice and we loved it--in fact it became my DS favorite.
Without the package during off times. The seats are not in the center, so if you can go and get a front and center seat it gives you a different view.
During peak the lines are huge....all the way back to the park entrance and began forming 2 hours before showtime this summer!
Either way works. Don't miss it. It is one-of-a kind::yes:: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

...for the Fantasmic Dinner Package. Not everyone who eats at those three restaurants gets a voucher. They book a finite number of packages for each night as the special seating is only for 1/3 of the theatre.

Make sure you are very specific when you make your PS. We had booked (we thought) the dinner package at MM and when we arrived they told us our reservation was not for a package, and said the PS on the computer said "not a Fantasmic package". I don't know how the PS was switched, and luckily they were able to accommodate us, but I don't like curve balls.

The dinner packages have to be paid ahead of time now. We booked one for Candlelight Processional and they had to be paid in full up front. If you aren't charged, that will be a definite heads up that you aren't booked. :D

Are you sure that the Fantasmic Package has to be paid up front ??? I have a ps for it and did not have to pay yet , although I did have to pay up front for the CP !

Though the seats are not in the center of the Ampitheater, you can get front rows. When we went Aug 03 we sat in the 10th row with the opinion of going lower. Though next time I will definitely stay higher up. It is a madhouse getting out of there. Good thing about where you are seated with the package is it is closest to the exit. Couldn't imagine be on the other side having to wait to get out.

Your choices of restaurants are Mama Melrose, Brown Derby, and Hollywood and Vine. I would say any but Hollywood and Vine. We didn't like it at all. We barely ate anything (17 & 10). As soon as we left the restaurant the youngest was asking for a hot dog. IMO the food is horrible at Hollywood and Vine. I would suggest paying the extra and enjoying your meal. Next time we are esting at Brown Derby.
