Ak will be closing at 6PM on my next trip. We will only have one day there so I don't want to waste time with a TS meal there but we plan on eating dinner once we leave the park. What would you recommend for dinner that night? Something at AKL that night seems logical but we will be staying there and have various reservations there at other times. I don't want to go to DS that night because I fear by this point in the trip I will be tired (traveling by myself with two kiddos) and we will be in need of an early night. I'm thinking counter service might be our best choice. Thoughts?

QS would certainly be an option. Or...how about Rainforest Cafe just outside the AK gate? Or you could always go to another resort for dinner if you don't want to go to DS.

Look for something in the Boardwalk area. Lots to choose from

Have you checked Yak and Yeti? Last May our last day was AK, and it closed at 6PM as well. We booked Y&Y at 5:45, I think. It was super relaxing, the restaurant was not full, but we never felt rushed, and it was really nice walking back through the quiet park after our dinner.

No one in my family enjoys the food at Rain Forest in spite of it being a really fun place.

I am looking for a resort to dine at but one that is any easier in and out than DS. Is the Boardwalk pretty convenient?

That's a good idea that I didn't think of! I'll see if there are any openings just before closing. Thank you!

Do any of you know if dinner at Tusker is a character meal?

Remember that AK hours are very fluid and always changing.

It may not be 6 pm and therefore you might have in park QS options too.

If you are talking 8 mos from now miracles may have happened and both Rivers of Light and Avatarland will be open.

Just factor that in to your thoughts so you can be flexible.

I'd vote for Yak n Yeti too if you aren't up for something at AKL. The food is great and as @Barbanellie mentions they have late reservations so you can go close to park closing and enjoy an empty park on your way out.

I'd try for Y&Y as well..... Rainforest is actually pretty good as well. Both times we've eaten at the 1 at AK, we had great serv. & very good meals too.:confused3

I vote for doing a TS at AK near closing as well. Then you can enjoy AK, eat and go back to AKL. If you think you'll be tired at that point in your trip, I wouldn't recommend heading to another resort and then back to AKL.

I wasn't able to get Y & Y anywhere near closing time so I booked Tusker House. We don't have a character meal planned this trip which is unusual for us so this ressie would fill that void. However, I don't want to eat there if the food is terrible. How is the food and character interaction?
For those asking why we are not eating at any of the options at AKL, it's because we are staying there and already eating there a lot. However, I just realized we have Boma's booked for breakfast twice on our non park days but we haven't booked it for dinner on this trip. Boma's is one of our favorite places to eat.
So, should I keep trying for a Y & Y spot, stick with Tusker House (never eaten there before), or go with a tried and true favorite, Boma's????
WWYD?

Since you've got young children, I would probably grab something at the Mara and take the kids to the pool and/or the night activities at the AK. At that age, my kids were not in the mood to go to a sit down restaurant after park touring all day.

I think we're going to do Cape May Café for dinner on our Animal Kingdom Day. My little ones like the seafood (and playing with the shells) and it seems family friendly.

I'm not sure of the answer to my own suggestion, but since Yak and Yeti is a Landry, do they operate like Rainforest and T-Rex and take as many, if not more, reservations over their own phone line? What I'm saying is that if you want to try it, maybe look up their number and see if you can make a reservation direct. Someone else may be able to chime in on that...and if not, Boma is always a great go-to!

I can't imagine not eating dinner at Boma, so I'd pick it every time.

Great idea. I'll give them a call and let you know if I have better luck!
