Dinner after AK

We're doing Sanaa one night, but for our second AK day...

Boma doesn't excite us, but I looked at Jiko and while it's nice enough, I'm just not sure it's two credits nice. In which case I need one more dinner before 3 am tomorrow...

We also were not too sure about what to do after Animal Kingdom. We decided to try out Whispering Canyon. I have heard some great things about it!

We're doing Whispering Canyon on one of our MK nights. Maybe I should move it to the AK night and look at options in and around MK instead.

Jiko is very highly rated by almost everyone, so don't rule it out! I haven't eaten there yet.

What about Yak & Yeti inside AK? We loved the food there enough to dine there twice during our last trip. Our servers were very prompt and attentive as well which is always appreciated.

I was looking at Yak and Yeti or Las Ventanas over at Coronado Springs. I've avoided Chinese and Mexican (and Italian and Japanese) because they're *so* plentiful where we live, but maybe I should add one back in.

It will be our last night, so I'm balancing the desire to go out on a high note with the understanding that we're apt to be pretty tired after 10 days. Maybe something sort of familiar and easy is a good way to close out the trip.

You don't mention the makeup of your travel party, that might impact choices - or if you are on a dining plan or paying oop - if I'm in essence pre-paying with the dining plan, I might choose experience over food quality and cost if the money isn't coming directly out of my wallet at the end of the meal

From Animal Kingdom you should be able to hop a bus back to any of the resorts .... and since AK closes so early

Beach Club / Yacht Club -- Beaches and Cream for an old-school ice cream parlor meal - and maybe topping the night off with a last couple of attractions at Hollywood Studios

or if there is a seafood lover in the group - Cape May buffer at the Beach Club with king crab legs etc.

You can take a bus from AK to Boardwalk Inn (closest to international gateway at Epcot) - maybe Biergarten in Epcot? if you can get there before the entertainment ends

You can take a bus from AK to Grand Floridian and get one last dinner with some characters at 1900 Park Fare

Maybe soak up some atmosphere and not worry about the food - with a casual quick service dinner at Art of Animation??

Cajun? Boatwrights at Port Orleans

Based on when you travel, and I'm assuming it's at least 6 months out based on the question, some new restaurants might be open in the new Disney Springs?? The Indiana Jones bar? STK? Morimoto? Boathouse - that's already open and accepting the dining plan

Is there a major Disney movie opening around the holidays?? Dinner at the movies at Downtown Disney?

But, mostly Boma is one of our favorites, and there is a lot to be said for buffets and differing tastes, and the quality of the Boma buffet is higher than other Disney buffets - it really does transport you and you get to experience some exotic foods, but with plenty of familiar items for the pickier parts of the dining parties - you can look at the animals on the savannah before or after dinner, the bar at the AKL (Victoria's Falls) is absolutely beautiful, as is the lobby - it's been a few years since we've stayed at AKL, but there was a story-teller at the campfire at the circle of rocking chairs outside before sunset, and night vision scavenger hunts?? I don't know if those still exist

But, mostly, remember supply and demand - if you're unsure, book what is the hardest 'get' in your list of possibilities, and it is easier to change from there

For arguments sake if you thought you might want to end with dinner at BOG, that is the 'hardest', so grab that, and you would probably be able to change to something easier to get if you change your mind

And don't over-stress, we booked our trip for a group of 8 just 70 days before we travel in the heart of the busy season in August, and we were able to get most of what we wanted, not the exact times for everything, but close - and this included hard to get reservations like Crystal Palace at 8:00 am, BOG lunch, early Sci-Fi dinner on an EMH night, Tusker House at 10:40 on EMH morning allowing us to get the end of breakfast and the beginning of lunch

And I'm a NYer, so I understand that you can get better Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Japanese, - basically most cuisines, outside of Disney, so I usually try to go for experience or more exotic - and don't even get me started at what is 'passed off' as a bagel

Thank you everyone. :) I got my ADRs (except for a couple neither I nor the CM can get to book- I'll keep trying) and got very lucky with a number of hard-to-gets. :)

Well what about Rainforest Cafe outside AK? It stays open 90 min later than the park, so you can just head on there. That would be the easiest, and plus it shouldn't be too crowded because most people leave AK before the park closes. Otherwise I would head to Downtown Disney. There are many good places there:

Rainforest Cafe (If you want that, go to the one at AK)
T-Rex Cafe
Portobello
Raglan Road (Never eaten there, but heard good things about it.)
Wolfgang Puck
Planet Hollywood

We're shooting for Yak and Yeti for lunch and RFC for dinner. Neither will book online right now, but we're Landry's members, so we'll be okay.

We did a "late" Tusker House reservation - 7? We had a nice, quiet dinner and then walked out through an empty park. It felt like we had the park to ourselves.

Does the Rainforest Cafe in AK have better theming than the one on DD?

We ate at Jiko and it was very good. The food was excellent and the service was also. I highly recommend it. It is also a beautiful spot with gorgeous cultural design.

Rainforest Café is no comparison to Jiko. And it is the same as every Rainforest Café we've ever been to, decent food and service but nothing exceptional.

We have a tradition of going to Hoop Dee doo after animal kingdom. It is our favorite night!

The theming I think is about the same, but its less crowded especially after park closing, and darker. At AK I usually realize the theming more because its darker and less crowded. The one at DTD has pretty much the same theming but I don't think people realize at as much because its more crowded and noisy.

I mean overall I just prefer especially after a long day at the park, to relax in the one at AK and it would be a quiet way back home because the busses are only for the people at the restaurant because the park closed like an hour ago, rather than wondering through a noisy and crowded DTD to get to the bus stop where I would possibly have to wait longer to catch the bus.

But if you spend the day in DTD and are not at any of the parks, then it makes more sense to go to the one in DTD.

True the RFC at AK is way less busy, then its counterpart at DTD.

What's shocking though, is that the food is pretty good. Especially for a chain type place. We've eaten at that location twice & the DTD location twice, and like Danny K stated, it is definitely way slower...Service was very good as well.

Also About Jiko. I've never heard a bad review about this place....We personally have never tried it yet, but absolutely LOVE BOMA, & also enjoy Sanaa as well...Even the Mara gets a lot of Love/visits from us too.

We are at Raglan Road last year for Thanksgiving (yes, they had traditional Thanksgiving fare at an Irish restaurant) and it was delicious. And people love the atmosphere and the dancers!

Have you considered Sannaa at Kidani Village. Their food looks delicious. Not sure what put you off Boma but I have eaten at every buffet on property and this is definitely my favourite. So much, much, better than the pretty plain and bland options at most of the others. Jiko is an outstanding restaurant too. That said, surprisingly we also enjoyed RFC outside AK :)

Dude Boma and Tusker House are almost the same in terms of food.

I was thinking about doing a later Tusker House meal our AK day. I just saw this and randomly wondered....how long to the Memore Maker photographers stick around? Do they leave right at park close?
