I'd love some ideas for dining with kids. Not just character meals but places where we can have some nice meals where there are other things to keep the kids occupied.
I have looked at menus but they dont really tell me if the kids will enjoy the place. Does that make sense? Do any of the restaurants offer things to keep the kids occupied whilst we are eating?
We are there for 28 nights including Christmas day.

As far as I can remember all restaurants had a colour in place mat word search which got a bit boring quite quickly. Sci fi jumps out as being kid friendly and different as does WCC (which also has a cute log cabin builder set in the entrance. )I d take your own bits and bobs and also enjoy chatting about the days highlights and planning for the next day. Buffets also kept our two busy choosing their own food going back up for seconds. My kids are shy and I gently insisted they communicated their choices to the server themselves as this often led to lovely interactions for them (when the servers could understand our yorkshire accents!):lmao:

whispering canyon cafe-is a western themed restaurant that is very family kid friendly with loud fun and games through out your dining experience.

Coral reef, has a giant fish tank with scuba divers

kids love the atmosphere at the Poly Ohana's and African kingdom lodge Boma

sci fi diner is cool you can sit in a "car" and watch old sci fi movie clips

prime time cafe can be fun for kids

Beirgarten in germany has an oompah band kids can dance to.

morroco marrakesh has belly dancers

My girls were 4 & 6 our trip in November. Besides the character meals they loved Ohana and Sci-Fi. At Ohana's they have a new activity every 20 minutes for the kids like a coconut races with a broom, limbo and learining to hula. My girls enjoyed it and my dh and I were able to sit back and enjoy a great meal. Sci-Fi was okay to mem nothing great. The kids and my dh enjoyed it.
In July we are going back to Ohana, Chef Mickeys, and CP. We are also excited to try WCC and Coral Reef.

Hollywood and Vine breakfast (Play and Dine) is technically a character meal, but they launch into interaction, song, and dance with the whole room every half hour. It's fun for kids!

Not my cup of tea, but some kids might like Rainforest Cafe.

There are fun animal drawings in Pizzafari.

My family enjoys Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe (or something like that) in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom. There is a stage show and the food is pretty good!

She used whilst so I'm assuming one of our friends across the pond. Easier to take a very long trip than several shorter ones.

I think you'll be surprised at how many Disney restaurants offer something else for the kids to do whilst you are eating. It would be easier to list the ones that don't.

Make your want list and post it here. Then we can give you advice on a yeah or nay.

Yes its a long way from here (Australia) and very very expensive and not a trip we will get to make again in near the future. Got to make the most of it while we can.

And thanks guys, these are the sorts of things I am looking for. We are renting a villa so dont need to eat out every meal. But we do want to experience a bit of Disney Dining.

At Animal Kingdom, Flame Tree BBQ. Take a seat by the water. Feed some bread to the ducks (not the birds!) and look for gators in the water.

At Animal Kingdom and Downtown Disney, Rainforest Cafe amuses kids with the tropical rainforest setting.

At MGM, I agree with prior posters on Sci-Fi Dine-In and 50s Prime Time.

How about getting your lunch poolside a couple of times.

At EPCOT, kids love to watch the chef cook in front of them at Japan's Teppanyaki. The food court in The Land is a great place for everyone to choose what they want.

If you have a car head offsite for a change of pace and get a coupon book, there's lots of places to eat along US192 and in Lake Buena Vista nearby. Many are kid themed places.

I asked my 7 year old daughter which restaurants are her favorites other than character meals. She shrugged and said "I like all of 'em!"
