The Luggage Arrived and....

Some quick dining reviews while still relatively fresh in my mind. I get to relive the experience as I type away on a raw rainy NY nite when only yesterday I was still sweating out the humidity in Orlando!
In reverse - our last full meal at WDW was at Coral Reef in Epcot - quite by accident as we had a long wait for or FP to Soarin' and had lunched at Seasons earlier in our stay.
Our cast - me - melomouse - I eat just about everything except legumes.
DBF - also a good eater, slow savorer and does eat legumes!!
DS(13) - my Asperger's son with some sensory issues, also at that adolescent point of wanting sooo much to be an adult, which to him means going to discos, drinking champagne, lolling in a jacuzzi, and ordering off an adult menu!
DD(9) - suspected often of not being my child since she is lean, agile, able to graze all day long or eat lots at one sitting and keep the longest skinniest frame in town. Known to subsist on chicken fingers, pasta and pizza, with an occasional green bean thrown in.

We were seated within 10 minutes with no ADR's. I asked for adult and child menus doe DS and was told whatever one he wanted was fine. Host took us to the second tier, but moved us immediately to the first table right next to the tank. We were mesmerized. DD started identifying fish from the booklet provided.DS announced he was starving and was NOT ordering a kids' meal AGAIN! He was delighted with the dolphin shaped blue swizzle stick that came with his cherry coke.
Our server, Jeff, told us the complete lunch was a good deal and very tasty. It included lobster bisque, choice of broliled and sauced sea scallops or a chicken salad sandwich, and cheesecake for 19.50. DS decided to order the skewered beef tenderloins($10) - an appetizer, as well as kid's pasta($4.99). DD ordered the kids' pizza($4.99), and DBF and I went for the special. DBF ordering the scallops and me - (oh, did I mention the only fish I like is shellfish and Ben & Jerry's Phish Food??)ordering the chicken salad.
Lobster bisque was great - would have been $7 a la carte - creamy and lobster chunks indeed found. DBF loved both the presentation and the taste of the seared scallops. DS's tenderloins were perfect, juicy and he ate every bite - tho there were only two on the skewer. The chicken salad was not quite right YUK! - - I realized in the second bite that it was actually WARM! Jeff said lots of people don't like it, asked me what he could substitute, and brought the kid's chicken meal for me - mashed potatoes, grilled breast and steamed broccoli(7.99) Perfect!
The cheesecake, a scoop of creamy roundness topped with peach melba sauce, was divine!!!mmmm....
I was surprised when I saw that I was charged only for the kids' meal for me - not for the soup or dessert, and told Jeff that I rarely send anything back and certainly never expected that kind of price adjustment. He said he just wanted me to be happy - which I was - and his tip reflected that.
This was the quiestest, most relaxing meal we had in 9 days in the world. We talked, listened to each other, observed and watched the shark and giant sea turtle that weighed 450 pounds. The tile on each tier sparkles throughout the restaurant. We were not rushed, service was appropriately spaced and timed.Total check was around $67 plus tip.A great experience!!
Much better than CP, RFC,WCC, H&V, PH and wherever else we ate. As far as the 2 buffets went - I much preferred H&V over CP, RFC wasn't bad,PH was fine, Pecos definitely superior to Backlot - but that's the short comment. Hopefully more to follow...

Yes, Melomouse! We want more. :goodvibes

Take your time but do post about all your other dining experiences! You have me considering Coral Reef.

Thanks,
penny

Glad you all enjoyed coral reef. My ds have been asking about it and looks like I will probably book it for our lunch in nov. Getting a 20% discount with the dde card is icing on the cake. I will stay away from the chicken salad and I hope scallops are on the menu since I love them too.

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for posting.

Enjoyed the review--and agree that it's a fine spot for a meal in Epcot!

The tables that are against the tank how many people can they seat? We are a party of seven and I don't want us to get a lousy seat due to the size of the party.

TIA!
Sue

So glad you enjoyed Coral Reef. It is our favorite lunch time escape. Always has been a cool, quiet and relaxing time for us. We've been going there for almost 10 years now and are always surprised at the bad reviews. Even now, planning our Jan 06 trip, ds14 insists we go although it will not be "hot" outside. We have never had a bad meal or bad server.

... In the first tier - tankside-floor - the tables for 4 are up against the tank wall. Across from that - but still in the first tier, are tables and round booths for larger parties.... The family across from us - table of six, I believe, seemed to be watching constantly with a good view. The tank is so huge that the Spaceship Earth dome could fit inside!!!
Enjoy!
