In looking at prices for buffets, it lists kids 3-9 I believe. Does this mean a 2 year old eats for free? Can we just fill up a plate for our son? Or does he have to eat off our plate? Also, at traditional sit-down restaurants, do we order off the kids menu like we do at home? Or do they have a "free" menu for kids under 3 there as well?

But at non-buffets you have to order & pay for a kids meal if you want one.

Children under 3 are free at buffets and all you can eats/pre-plated restaurants. They can have their own plate.

At restaurants with a menu, if you order for them off the menu, then you pay for whatever you order. If you don't want to buy them food, then you must share your plate with them.

But as I understand it if you are on the dining plan then they eat "free" in that there is no charge for the under-3 on the meal plan and they get meals at restaurants and buffets.

Portie-

I would like to know the answer to your question as I am thinking of my taking my 2 year old great nephew next year to disney and need to know the "ins and outs" as well

We were on the dining plan April 05 with our daughter who was under 2. She ate free at all the buffets but if we wanted a meal for her at a sit down restaurant we would have had to pay out of pocket. She was not a big eater and just ate off my our plates.

Nope, not true. Children under 3 are not part of the dining plan.

As I said, children under 3 can eat free at buffets/pre-plated and all you can eat restaurants and if you go to a restaurant that has a menu and order them something, then you have to pay for it.

Disney will NOT give you dining credits for a child under 3. The only way to get around this is to call Disney and ask them if you can add your toddler to the plan for $10.99 a day and buying at least a base ticket (so they will put the child into the computer as age 3). Then you would have dining credits for them.

True. Last month at Pecos Bill's we saw a couple get really upset because they had assumed that their under two daughter could get a meal for free since they were on the dining plan. The poor CM had to call a manager over to explain the dining plan to them, while we all waited behind them to place our orders. They kept insisting that 2 y/os ate free under the dining plan and they wanted a kid's meal for her.

When our kids were that age, they would get their own plate at the buffets. At the non-buffet meals, most times the server would bring them a clean plate and we could put whatever we wanted from our plates on it but if we ordered a meal for them, we would have to pay for it.

Be careful though because last time we were there they counted us as a party of 4 even though DD1 was not part of the dining plan and they charged us 4 credits instead of 3. I spent A LOT of time at guest services getting that straightened out. They were very nice about it though and gave us extra snack credits for the mistake!!! :thumbsup2
