We will be getting into POR rather late in the afternoon (maybe even early evening). Does anyone have any suggestions where we could eat that night if we don't want to use a day on our passes? Anyone suggest anything in DTD (since I think that would be close). Or should we just stay and eat at the hotel? Thanks for any help!

The food court at POR is very good...we were there for a week and had many meals there...the BBQ plate is out of this world and the taco salad is a delish huge treat!

We really liked Boatwrights at POR. Good food, excellent service, and best of all - no travel! If we stay at POR again, we'd definately make time for a dinner there.

In DTD, Capt Jacks was pretty good, but the menu is limited. Planet Hollywood was fun but loud, and the food is nothing particularly original or noteworthy - nothing you can't get at Applebees type places at home for much less $$. Those are the only two DTD restaurants we've tried so far, and I wouldn't do either again while there are still other places to try.

My vote would be to take the boat to DTD and go to Wolfgang Puck Express or Earl of Sandwich. Both are CS meals if you are on the dining plan and are really good. POR foodcourt does not have the taco station anymore. At least we didn't see it there this past May after they refurbished it. I never ate at Boatrights at POR so I can't comment. I think DTD would be a great way to spend your first night though and both Wolfgang Puck Express and Earl of Sandwich are really good! Have a great trip!

I think the POFQ, which is just a boat ride or long walk away, still has the taco salad on its menu.

Speaking of the boat ride, taking the Port Orleans boat launch to DTD for dinner is a wonderful way to start off your vacation. Very leisurely and relaxing.

In addition to the CS recommendations of Wolfgang Puck's Express and Earl of Sandwich, I would suggest dinner at Raglan Road for a TS meal. It has one of the biggest menus of the TS restaurants at Disney - lots of choices for appetizers and entrees. Great atmosphere and live Irish music in the evening. Then, stop by Goofy's Candy Company on the way back to the boat launch. :)

Oh, forgot to add, POR has a great piano player/entertainer in the lounge Wed - Sun - Bob Jackson. Another fun way to enjoy first evening of your trip.

Boatwrights is pretty good if you want to stay around the resort. If DD appeals, then Raglan Road, House of Blues, or Wolfgang Puck. A bit more $$ would be Portobello Yacht Club.

Actually, you're not getting in that late, so you could take the bus anywhere that you'd like and have a nice meal at one of the resorts. If you wish to stay within the areas that you mentioned, Boatwright's is good, and in DTD, Puck's upstairs is outstanding. We've also had nice meals at the House of Blues and Raglan Road. Enjoy!

Thanks! Raglan Road, Wolfgang Pucks or the food court with BBQ and taco salad look like great options. I think our flight will land at about 4:20, so I figure that we won't be to the hotel and checked in until 6:30 or so. I have little kids and we will be coming from Minnesota in Feb., so there could always be flight delays. I think if I had a reservation I would be very stressed the whole day if anything got delayed.

I would take the boat over to DTD and go to either Wolfgang Puck's Cafe for a sit down meal, or Wolfgang Puck's express for a fast food meal.

If you have kids, you may want to consider the rainforest cafe as well.

We are planning to go over to Whispering Canyon the night we arrive. We are suppose to land at 11:30 am though and planned dinner for at 6pm. I figure if it looks like weather will hold us up and we will not make it I will call and cancel.

we live in Wisconsin and are going over Xmas:santa:

I second the boat over to DTD...very relaxing. And Earl of Sandwich is only a short walk from the dock. (other places like Wolfgang Pucks or House of Blues would be a longer walk).

On the other hand, if you want to take it easy, the food courts have some great options, and you could even enjoy your meal poolside :)

We stayed at POFQ w/ young kids & we checked in late afternoon. After a long day of traveling I would go to Boatwrights..thats what we did & it was very relaxing & we all thought the food was great! We did not have an ADR, but if you make one you could always cancel if everyone feels like counter service. I loved taking the boat to DTD, but I would go after dinner, my kids would get cranky if we ate too late. :goodvibes

We stayed at POR & will be returning in Dec!

The resort is beautiful!

I'd make reservations at Boatwrights. And if flight is delayed, the food court is pretty good (better then most fast food joints IMO)

Traveling with young kids will lead to one of 2 things -- Hyped up to see & do all or tired & cranky. Sticking to the resort gives you the MOST flexibility to deal with either extreme -- and if your family times things like mine, you will have one kid at each extreme :scared:

The resort has carriage rides ($35) that you could do afterwards if feeling up to it. ANd the boat to Downtown Disney if the kids are hyper -- the Displays at the Lego store are great fun for kids, as is the giant disney store, while the relaxing boat ride will be good for adults & make the kids seem like they are getting a Disney ride experience...

And another side note on the resort -- the Arcade is GREAT, but well hidden. So kids won't beg to go because it is out of sight, but it is a nice place to go if your party needs to split up & burn off one kids energy while taking another to bed (assuming 2 adults)
