Have Dining Room servers always pulled double duty and worked on Castaway, or is this a new post covid thing?

I had the same server on castaway as in the dining room. I was in the adult only section and it was more happen chance than anything, But yes they work double duty.

Yes, all but a few staff on castaway cay are from the ship. As far as dining staff is concerned their are 3 dining teams, I believe they take turns working castaway cay.

When we sailed on the Fantasy our server, Dejean, told us the night before he was working a specific location on Castaway Cay. It was kind of out of the way for where we parked ourselves for the day, but our kids went to kids club so we hunted him down and he was ecstatic to serve us. It was so sweet! And we got the best service I've ever had at Castaway Cay!

Dining room staff has always been on duty at the dining locations on CC. We usually ask our server where he is assigned the next day, so we can look for him and have a chat.

Some servers have specific tasks onboard (training, Cabanas, etc.) and are exempt from CC duty.

It's traditional. I saw my Palo server dishing out food at the Serenity Bay barbeque last month btw.

Always, and we always ask our team where they will be on CC day so we can go to Cookies1 or Cookies2 or Serenity Bay for lunch.

Having a day off on CC day is one of the rewards for getting great evaluations. We asked our favorite Magic server once where he would be and he said "enjoying the beach and then taking a nap". He and his asst. server had gotten 100% excellent from all guests for a significant period of time and so had earned a day off at CC. I would assume this is a bigger reward than a day off at other ports as they are still so busy on CC.

I just got off the Fantasy today and dropped off a 4 page letter for the Hotel Director letting him know that all the crew members are amazing BUT I had a list and reasons why I though some went above and beyond and I truly hope these people get a day off because they are some of the most hard working people I’ve ever met!

Some roles do include double duty. Many of the bartenders from the ship also have specific spots out on the island. And you will also find your Palo server working Cabanas on debarkation morning.

Given that many of them would have lunch duty on board, it's not really "double duty". It just shifts their duty from on board to on the island.

We were on this same cruise, and it sounds cliche to say we always get great service, but this cruise exceeded them all. All the cast members were wonderful on board, but the team we had in the dining room/Palo and at the Club/Lab all went above and beyond for the whole week like it was nothing. We had a first time Disney cruiser with us, and she said there is no way she can go back to any other line now, even with a windy/rainy CC day

I’ve gotten lucky at CC except for this cruise and the 6 night back on 10/24 BUT I wasn’t letting that stop me lol at some point while it was raining I was they only one in the water snorkeling at Serenity Bay( I am sure the lifeguard hated me 🤣) but I agree wholeheartedly the crew is amazing and we always seem to connect with certain ones on the ship… I can’t wait to bring my mom on… she’s only cruised once on Norwegian and I know she’ll be in love! Glad you had an amazing time!

My wife tripped over a root at Serenity Bay during lunch and it was none other than our server from our Palo brunch who helped her up, put a bandaid on her scrape and offered to refill her plate. She remembered us and was so nice.
