Here are the reviews from the resort restaurants that we dined at during our trip. As usual, any questions, feel free to ask!

Rainforest Café, Downtown Disney-Forgot to put this one in my other post. I had a gift certificate, so we took advantage of it and had lunch here one day after the water park. We both got drinks to start with. Mine had raspberry and pineapple juice and vodka blended together with ice. It was quite tasty! My boyfriend had some kind of flavored pina colada/daiquiri thing, not exactly sure what it was. He enjoyed his as well. We both decided on burgers. I got mine with fries and he had mashed potatoes. The burgers were very good; tasting like something you’d barbeque at home. The fries were good and my boyfriend said the potatoes were also good-very creamy. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch, but probably wouldn’t have eaten here if not for the certificate.

Boma, Animal Kingdom Lodge-We had a lovely dinner here. First of all, our server was great, very upbeat and friendly. Second, we had an amazing experience here with the chefs. Because of my allergy, the chef came out and took me around the buffet to explain what was in each dish. He was so enthusiastic about the food and gave us so much excellent information. Also, the pastry chef, Lisa, was wonderful. She gave me some chocolate brownie soy ice cream (not that awful rice dream stuff) and it was fabulous! My boyfriend mentioned that we were also eating at Jiko later that trip and she set aside a bowl of the soy ice cream for me to have for dessert there. The food, of course, was excellent. I know there are varying opinions of Boma, but we are in the “love it” group. At our server’s suggestion we began our meal with the salads, breads and soups (we usually head straight for the meat and then get really full). We enjoyed watermelon rind salad (very interesting, kind of spicy); mixed greens with yummy mango dressing; a delicious couscous salad; three kinds of hummus with homemade crackers; fufu (a delicious blend of yams and white potatoes mixed with sweet spices); smoky prime rib with different dipping sauces (mustards, bbq sauce, etc); salmon encrusted with different kinds of nuts and seeds (excellent); an oxtail soup that my boyfriend went crazy for-I thought it was a bit too salty; potatoes with “afritude”, which is just a spice mixture (ok, I’m not a big fan of these). That’s about it, I ‘m sure there were a few other items we sampled, but I can’t remember them now. We were very pleased with our meal and quite impressed with the service.

Jiko, Animal Kingdom Lodge-One of our absolute favorites!! We had a great dinner here. Chef Annette came out and went over the menu with us. She circled my menu with crayon, indicating what was okay for me to have. I still have the menu as a souvenir, lol. My boyfriend decided to start with the Kenya Coffee BBQ Chicken Flatbread. He loved it, but I couldn’t taste it because of the cheeses. It really did look yummy, though! I had a white bean soup that came with homemade whole-wheat croutons and a drizzle of spices that I couldn’t identify, but tasted Indian. The soup was amazing-very creamy, but it didn’t have any dairy in it at all. The spices were so delicious; it really complimented the soup’s flavor. Bread was brought out accompanied by delicious butter. Seriously, the butter is so good I could eat it with a spoon. They add spices to it that are just incredible. For the entrée, my boyfriend decided on the Berbere Braised Lamb Shank, a dish he has ordered before and loved. This time was no exception! It’s a very good dish, very hearty and flavorful. I had the Kalamata Olive Crusted Golden Bass. Wow, what a fabulous dish! It came with an amazing broth, again, tasting Indian in nature. The fish itself was delicious, perfectly cooked. It also came accompanied by a sweet potato/plantain cake. It was delicious-sweet, but not overly so, with a great texture. For dessert, we had the soy ice cream from Boma, plus a dessert called “Pineapple, Pineapple, Pineapple”, which was pineapple sorbet, lightly fried pineapple, with a spicy pineapple salsa. It was very unique! The best part was the fried pineapple. I found the sorbet way too lemony. All in all, another fabulous meal at Jiko!

Cape May Café, character breakfast, Beach Club-Since we were at the Swan our last few days, we decided that this would be a great last day breakfast. We had an early PS (7:40 am) and the chef was not in yet to help us with the menu. The manager was really sweet and apologized about it. We didn’t mind, we just hung out with the characters while we waited, lol. Our waitress brought us some juice and coffee (with non-dairy creamers). The coffee actually wasn’t bad. Eventually the chef arrived and explained what I could have. Unfortunately, at this buffet it wasn’t much. Even their scrambled eggs are made with milk! She offered to make me something and I opted for Mickey waffles. She made a gluten free kind that was really good, tasting like honey. I also ate fresh fruit, breakfast potatoes (these were like hash browns), and sausage. My boyfriend had the same stuff, as well as French toast, the scrambled eggs, and cheese blintzes with vanilla sauce. He enjoyed the food. The characters were very cute, spending lots of time at each table since the restaurant was pretty empty. The only character we didn’t get to see was Goofy, who we missed and would’ve had to wait 15 minutes for him. It was a nice breakfast for our last day, very relaxing.

Cape May Café, clam bake dinner, Beach Club-We ate dinner here on our first night so we could go right to Epcot and watch Illuminations afterward. The chef came out and sat down at our table and recited the dishes that I should avoid. We asked about dessert and he said he’d see if there was any rice dream around in the kitchen. We went to the buffet and ate: prime rib (surprisingly good); sausage and peppers (good); sautéed veggies (very good); corn dog nuggets from the kid’s section (yummy-such a guilty pleasure, lol); and of course, seafood. The line was so long the entire time we were there, that we decided to do one big trip and share the food. We got a bowl of clams, a bowl of mussels, and a couple of pieces of fried cod. The clams were delicious, in a tasty garlic broth. The mussels were also good, in a tomato/butter broth. The fried fish was ok, just like any other. For dessert the chef did manage to get me a bowl of vanilla rice dream. It was ok; if you’ve ever had the stuff you know how it tastes-kind of funny at first, but then you get used to it. My boyfriend had a mini cranberry pie from the dessert station that he said looked better than it tasted. It was a good dinner and we were glad we went.

Old Port Royale food court, Caribbean Beach, various meals-Since we stayed a week at Caribbean Beach, of course we ate here a few times, mostly for breakfast. For breakfast we usually got Western omelets without cheese (ham, onions, mushrooms). The omelets were really good and came with yummy breakfast potatoes and a biscuit. We also had fruit salad and a child’s breakfast platter, which came with scrambled eggs, sausage and potatoes, in a small portion. We had lunch here once; both of us got sandwiches. My boyfriend had a prime rib sandwich, which he enjoyed and I had the turkey with cranberry spread. It came on delicious grain bread. One disappointment, however, was that the cranberry spread turned out to be a cranberry mayo, and I would have much preferred a plain cranberry dressing. We also got a chocolate covered Mickey rice krispy treat from the grab and go section. It was good, but the plain are definitely better. I found the chocolate to be very thick. We purchased the refillable mugs and used them frequently, but thought the drink selection was kind of boring, no Mr. Pibb or root beer or anything like that.

Shutters, Caribbean Beach-I think this was the only new restaurant we tried on our whole trip! I started out with one of their mixed drinks with a glowing ice cube in it. I can’t remember what the drink was, except that it was blue, tasted good, and was surprisingly strong, lol! We didn’t get any appetizers, as we were headed off to Pleasure Island that night and didn’t want to be too full. The chef came out to our table to help us with the menu. He was very nice and offered a few suggestions. I decided to get the grilled shrimp skewers, which were accompanied by spinach and a tomato dipping sauce. The shrimp were really tasty and I liked the tomato sauce, which was actually a substitution of the regular sauce, which has cream in it. The spinach was also very good; I am a HUGE spinach fan. It sounds funny, but I love the stuff. My boyfriend had steak, which came with yucca fries. The steak was good and the yucca fries were delicious, they kind of reminded me of plantains. This was a pleasant dinner, a nice choice to have right inside the hotel.

California Grill, Contemporary-We had our last night’s dinner here. Our PS was for about an hour and a half before the MK fireworks, so we requested a window-side table. It was not available, but there was a table right next to the window tables. It was perfect! From my seat I could see Cinderella’s castle, Space Mountain, and even Big Thunder Mountain. I started off with a flatbread that had roasted veggies, feta cheese and balsamic syrup on it. It was amazing. Very crunchy and wonderful tasting. My boyfriend had “Willie’s Homemade Tomato Soup”, which was a lovely tomato soup with a cute little grilled cheese and olive sandwich on top. He also had the Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli, which was one large ravioli with a sun dried tomato broth. I couldn’t taste it, but he assured me that it was delicious! They also brought out focaccia bread with olive oil, which was very tasty. For my dish I selected the Arctic Char. It was supposed to come with some sort of cornbread soufflé and avocado, but because of my allergy it just came with plain roasted potatoes. Honestly, I was a little disappointed with the accompaniment. The waiter didn’t tell me that I wasn’t getting the avocado; he just said I couldn’t have the cornbread, so they would substitute potatoes. I felt that at a restaurant such as California Grill, they surely had the means to do something a bit more interesting with my sides. The fish was very good, however. I’d never had Arctic Char before; it was like a milder salmon. My boyfriend decided on the oak grilled filet, which had a tamarind barbeque sauce and came with cheddar potatoes and green beans (Kentucky Wonder beans, lol). The meat was superb; the sauce really added a nice flavor. He also reports that the potatoes were good. For dessert I had an espresso, which was good, and the trio of sorbets. It was morello cherry, strawberry, and white peach in a watermelon nectar. The sorbets were fabulous, particularly the cherry. The nectar was different, but also quite good. My boyfriend had crepes that were filled with vanilla panna cotta and came with pears and aged balsamic syrup. He enjoyed the dessert, said it was different but delicious. The view of the fireworks was amazing; it was so nice to see it from our seats. The restaurant dimmed the lights and piped in the music, but didn’t let anyone come up to the windows and block our view. It was an incredible evening.

Tubbi’s Buffeteria, Dolphin-Since we were staying at the Swan, we had breakfast at Tubbi’s one morning. We both got Tubbi’s breakfast, which is scrambled eggs, toast, potatoes and bacon or sausage. (I had mine with sausage and my boyfriend chose bacon.) We also had coffee (Starbucks-yay!). I was able to get some packets of non-dairy creamer from the cashier. The food was okay, nothing special. I really enjoyed the coffee, though! Overall I didn’t care for the feel of Tubbi’s. It seemed outdated and strange to me. I guess for convenience, you can’t beat it though.

1900 Park Fare, Grand Floridian-We did the character breakfast one morning. Because of my allergy the chef came out to our table and let me know what to avoid on the buffet. She also made me a Mickey waffle without milk in it. The waffle was good, had sort of a soy taste to it, and was made better with strawberry topping. Our waiter brought us coffee (with non-dairy creamer) and juice. At the buffet we ate fresh fruit, hash browns, bacon, sausage, and made-to-order omelets. We were able to get egg white omelets. I had mine with veggies and my boyfriend had ham and veggies. While I was still waiting for my omelet to cook I could swear I heard someone calling my name. I turned around and it was the Mad Hatter!! He was at my table with my boyfriend and made me leave the omelet station! It was very funny and embarrassing, lol. We also got to meet Mary Poppins (she stayed in the lobby), Alice in Wonderland, Eeyore, and Pooh. It was a nice buffet. Also, before we left we grabbed some rice krispy treats for dessert-yum!

Citricos, Grand Floridian-We had an amazing dinner here a couple of years ago and were looking forward to returning. Unfortunately, we were not as impressed. The service was very slow, not the nice kind of slow you get in a good restaurant, just plain slow. Instead of the chef coming out to help me with the menu, the waiter told me what had dairy in it. I decided to start with the asparagus salad, which came with arugula, frisee, and ham wrapped asparagus. I really enjoyed the salad; particularly the ham-it was excellent, reminding me of prosciutto. My boyfriend selected the plat du jour, which is a selection of salads, meats, and cheeses. He was not especially impressed with his choice, citing it as only ok. For my entrée, I had the grilled filet of beef, which came with an olive veal jus, Portobello salad, and crushed potatoes with olive oil. I also added a side of spinach. The filet was delicious-perfectly cooked and very tasty. The sides were delectable; I loved the flavor of the potatoes, as well as the Portobello salad. The spinach was also yummy. My boyfriend again did not fare as well with his selection. He got the Seared Tuna, which came with saffron flavored pasta and tomatoes and capers. He wasn’t thrilled with the capers, nor did he like the tuna. It just was not the type of dish for him. I urged him to get something else, but he didn’t want to make a fuss. I ended up giving him half of my steak. For dessert I ordered a press pot of coffee, assuming that I’d be able to get non dairy creamer, as I had in every single other restaurant we’d been to. Apparently not at Citricos. (Although we knew they had it downstairs at 1900 Park Fare.) I drank the coffee black, which wasn’t terrible, but I’d have preferred creamer. I also had the seasonal berry gratin, which came with a champagne sauce, which tasted like it was made with eggs rather than cream. It was an excellent dessert and it was so nice to have a “real” dessert instead of rice dream or sorbet. But speaking of sorbets, my boyfriend chose the trio of sorbets. I can’t remember what the selection was, but it was good. Overall, the experience was just okay, although for me, it was definitely better. We wished that the service was better; to us it was slow and apathetic. And my boyfriend certainly wished that he liked the food better! We might return to Citricos one day, but maybe after a menu change!

Kona Café, Polynesian-Our absolute favorite breakfast spot did not disappoint us! We got mugs of delicious, steaming Kona coffee to enjoy while poring over the menu. Our waitress also kindly brought us some non-dairy creamers. We both had the Tonga Toast, but instead of being dipped in milk, we had the chef dip it in Egg Beaters. The result was excellent; the outside was just a bit lighter than if it were dipped in milk. We loved our Tonga Toast-we both devoured the sugary, crisp outside and the warm bananas inside. Accompanied by pineapple and sausage, this was a wonderful breakfast. Our waitress was so sweet and gave us full to-go cups of the Kona coffee to take with us on our way.

‘Ohana, Polynesian-We’d had a bad experience our first visit here-all of the meats were very dry, but I went back last year with my friends and it was great, so my boyfriend and I gave it another shot. After we’d been seated the chef came out to discuss the menu with me. Turned out that the only off-limits item was the caramel dipping sauce for the pineapple. The chef told me that he’d take care of me, and prepare a warm chocolate sauce that I could eat with the pineapple. The appetizers were brought out-we had honey chicken wings, salad with honey lime dressing, shrimp wontons, veggies, and fried rice. We enjoyed all of the appetizers. I loved the salad and the wontons, while my boyfriend preferred the chicken wings and wontons. Then the meat came. We had pork loin, turkey, shrimp, and steak accompanied by peanut sauce, fruit sauce (like a pineapple/mango/apple sauce), and BBQ sauce. The peanut was the best, followed by the fruit and BBQ. I polished off 3 shrimp, 2 pieces of turkey and a piece of steak. (I didn’t really like the pork.) My boyfriend ate SO much. He had about 8 pieces of the steak, along with about 30 shrimp and a few pieces of the turkey and pork. I couldn’t believe it. I just sort of watched him for a while. He’s so skinny too-I really don’t know where it all goes. When my boyfriend finally stopped eating, they brought us out the pineapple with the caramel sauce and the warm chocolate sauce, which turned out to be chocolate syrup. The pineapple was tasty and I appreciated being able to have a dipping sauce. We polished off two pineapple sections before finally waddling out of the restaurant.

So, that’s it for our dining adventures. Hope you enjoyed reading as much as we enjoyed eating!!!
:teeth: :wave2:

Wow!!
I knew you would do justice to your dining experience and you sure did!!
Maybe your boyfriend and I could form a berbere braised lamb shank society???:D
Sorry about Citricos. I'm just guessing the service was slow and the restaurant wasn't very crowded??
And Shutters will be on our next trip's list.

Wonderful reviews ~ Thanx for sharing. We are eating at 1900 Park Fare and Citricos for the first time during our upcoming trip.

Thanks for the great and very detailed reviews!
I am fortunate to not have any allergies but my brother as a child was allergic to just about everything, so I can relate a little. (He used to drink this milk substitute called "Mull-Soy" which was horrible just to look at. I could never make myself taste it.)

It's good to know you can have chocolate!

Thank you so much for posting your experiences. As I have serious food allergies as well, I really enjoyed reading about your experiences with various restaurants and chefs. I know I have just made all my PS for my December trip and plan to speak to each chef, just to be safe (had a bad experience just last week when I accidently "poisoned" myself in my own home!).

Lots of great detail. Thanks for the excellent reviews.
