We are just back from a week at the World and I can honestly say we did not have a bad meal. Of course, a lot of places we visited were some of our favorites so we knew what we were in for, but I have to say we were all very pleased with just about everything we had. And I have an extra 7.5 lbs to prove it.
Our party consisted of myself (very plain eater and not very adventurous) & DH (better than me, but not into anything really funky), our 2 DS (they are worse than me and pretty much only eat pizza, macaroni or hotdogs), and my mother (more adventurous than DH & I). Heres our reviews
BEACHES & CREAM - We ate lunch here on our arrival day it really hit the spot. We took the bus from our resort (ASSP) to MGM, then the boat over to the Beach Club. Even though we were going resort to resort, it didnt seem to take too long to get there. Upon arrival we checked in and requested a booth. We were given a pager and told it would be about 35 minutes. I should mention this was a Sunday at about 2:30pm. It turned out that 35 minutes was just about right.
After being seated we were promptly served, which was good because we were all getting very hungry by now. We got an order of onion rings to share. My mother and I got the cheeseburgers and fries, DH had the Prime Rib sub with fries, and the kids had hot dogs and fries. Everything was great. The onion rings were thick and seemed to have a little bit of a different flavor than most onion rings Ive had. We all enjoyed them. Ive often heard people review the burgers here, saying they are the best on Disney property. I will agree with that.
They were very tasty as were the fries. DH was very pleased with his prime rib sub. He had tried getting that on our last visit to B&C but they were out of it that time, so he was happy to finally try it. He did mention that if he were to get it again he would probably ask for them to go light on the peppers and onions as there were a lot of them on it. Its not that they made it bad, its just he would prefer less of them. I took a taste of the sub (all in the name of research of course
) and I would agree that it was very good. The melted cheese on top really added to it. The kids ate their hotdogs, so they must have been good, but we had to help them with their fries. The kids arent big on fries anyway, but we thought these ones were very good.
CINDERELLAS WHITE CHOCOLATE SLIPPER- While this isnt a restaurant, I couldnt not review it. I wanted to surprise my mother with one of these because she tried really hard to get one for me for my birthday while I was in WDW in December, but she was unable to order it then(they told her they couldnt let it leave the Grand Floridian). On the day we called to order it, I read on the boards that the price had gone up from $8.00 to $14.00. At first I thought that was a bit much, and we even decided to go with 2 Slippers instead of 3. After having it, I can say it was really worth the $14.00, but its not something I would get every trip either. This was just a special thing for us. One thing that I was unaware of from reading about it here is that the plate is actually made out of white chocolate. Because of that, the 2 we ordered were more than enough for us. In fact, we still have some plate left over. Not only was it the white chocolate plate and slipper which was filled with vanilla custard, but there was also a teardrop shaped piece of chocolate, almost like a bowl, filled with a chocolate custard. There was even a bit of raspberry sauce on the plate that was delicious too. Every bite of this melted in your mouth and you could tell it was all very high quality chocolate.
We also got the kids the Chocolate Covered Dog Bones. While these were a cute way to make éclairs, my kids didnt really care for them. I tried them and thought they were good, but not great. Then again when I have white chocolate in front of me, not much can compare.
On the other hand DH really liked the bones.
Im very glad we got these, not only for the eating, but it was a fun experience too. We were able to pick them up at 1900 Parke Faire at the GF and take them to Mizners Lounge. We ate them there and got some drinks too. There were only a few other people in the lounge, but they were all wishing they had what we had.
ALL STAR SPORTS FOOD COURT- We have always enjoyed the food court at ASMO when we stayed there and we were just as happy at Sports. The food court has a great variety and is usually a quick meal, unless you get a big group of people ahead of you in line which happened to us once.
We had 2 breakfasts there and I was able to have a bacon egg & cheese sandwich on a croissant, and sample the bagles, chocolate chip muffins and cinnamon rolls. Everything was good, but nothing stood out as excellent. DS didnt like the bacon, but I thought it tasted just like any other bacon. Both kids enjoyed the bagles, cinnamon roll, and muffin. DH had the scrambled eggs, sausage, home fries, and biscuit. He liked everything except for the home fries which had onions & peppers in them. They werent bad, but just not what he likes. He also said the sandwich was pretty good. DM mostly had cereal and banana for breakfasts there.
For lunch DH had a burger and fries which he said was good, and the kids split a foot long hot dog. They ate it pretty quick so it must have been good.
MAMA MELROSE- FANTASMIC DINNER PACKAGE This is our most visited restaurant in WDW. We have gone once on each of our last 8 trips now and its always a great meal (with 1 exception due to a changed menu, and them not having what I was really in the mood for). We have done the FDP here before and I still think its too much food, but to get a seat for Fantasmic and to eat at one of my favorite places, its worth it.
We arrived about 5:15 for our 5:20 PS and were seated right away. We were surprised at how empty the restaurant was. I wondered if it was because of how they dont open up those later times until about a month in advance. Maybe people arent trying back???
With the package, they start you out bread and 2 dipping sauces, a pesto and tomato basil. They were really good. It was something different we dont usually have. We were then offered a mixed green salad to share. We had this the last time and didnt care for that type of lettuce so we requested to have Caesar salad instead. They were able to make this substitution and we were very glad. The salad was great. We then got our choice of any 2 flat breads. We ordered 1 Four Cheese, and also ordered a Pepperoni. The menu doesnt have a plain pepperoni, but one with peppers & onions. We asked to have it without the peppers and onions and they were able to do that for us too. Boy we were picky at this meal, weren't we?
The 4 cheese flat bread is one of my favorite things at MM and it did not disappoint. Its very cheesey, but I guess thats obvious. The pepperoni flat bread was just as good. Instead of having thin circles of pepperoni like most pizza have, this had some thick long strips of it. Again you could tell this was good quality food. For our entrees, DH & I both got the Chicken Parm with pasta. Despite the fact that the chicken was barely breaded if it even was (it was tough to tell under the sauce),it was still very good. DM got the Penne Alla Vodka which was also very good. We had both wanted to try it, but werent sure so we decided to share our meals so we could both try it. I think if I were to go back again Id get that next time it was so good (Im a big pasta person). The kids both got plain pasta and were happy with that. This time for dessert we were told we had our choice of any dessert on the menu. Last time we had to choose between 2. I had hoped to get a cannolli since we had our choice, but they were no longer on the menu. Instead I got cheese cake, DH had tiramisu, and DM got the spumoni. The kids had a vanilla & chocolate gelato. Everything was good, but by that time in the meal it was tough to eat. Once again, we were very pleased with our meal here and the service was very good too. DM thought this was the best meal of the trip.
ESPN Having 2 DSs who are sports fans, this has become one of our must dos. And I wont complain because the food and drinks are always very good here. We had lunch here on our day at Epcot, which was convenient since its just a short walk from the International Gateway. Upon arriving we had our choice of seats and the kids chose a booth in the bar area because they could play games over there. The restaurant was not crowded at all and our service was very good.
We started out with a couple of drinks while we waited for our meals. DH & DM had beers, but I opted for a White Russian. Ive found most places in WDW make weak mixed drinks, but ESPN is one of the places where I know Ill get a good one and this time was no exception. The kids had a root beer & a chocolate milk. For our meals DM and I both got nachos. She got hers as they come, with everything on them, I got mine with just the beef and cheese on them, with sour cream and pico de gallo on the side, no jalepenos (I'm one of the people who don't like their food mixed). We were both very happy with these although even with sharing with the others, neither of us could finish them. My only complaint abut them is they werent as cheesey as they were the last couple times I got them. It was almost like they cooked them a bit too long so the cheese wasnt very gooey like it had been in the past but that didnt stop me from eating them, LOL! They were still very good. DH had the roast beef sandwich with cheese. He really liked that and he thought the fries were very good too. The kids had a Hot Dog & Fries and a Grilled Cheese & fries. They ate their meals, but once again, they only picked at the fries.
SNACKS AT EPCOT - Since lunch at ESPN filled us up, we opted to just have a few snacks around dinner time. Between us we shared 2 Funnel Cakes from America. These were delicious as usual messy, but delicious. Once again we were lucky to time our Funnel Cakes at the same time as the drummers in Japan. We took them over there to eat and had entertainment. We also got a Mickey Bar, Frozen Lemonade, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Icecream Sandwich from a cart as we left Epcot. Everyone was happy with those as they were the standard Disney treats.
More to come...
