This will be my first time trying my hand at writing dining reviews. I will warn you that there are no pictures to go with this review, unfortunatly, as though I love looking at everyone else's pictures, I just didn't feel comfortable whipping out the camera and shooting it at my food. Also, by the time the thought crossed my mind, my dishes were generally half destroyed and no longer as yummy looking as they were when they first emerged from the kitchen.

This trip was a split stay between BWI concierge (surprise upgrade, yea! ) and the Poly for my BF and I.

Restaurants we ate at:

Liberty Tree Tavern (lunch)
Pizzafari (lunch)
Biergarten (lunch)
ESPN Club (dinner)
Captain Cook's (lunch)
Raglan Road (dinner)
Gaspirilla's (Breakfast)
Main Street Bakery (Snack)
Yak & Yeti Counter Service (lunch)
Kona Cafe (Dinner)
Captain Cook's (Breakfast)
Tokyo Dining (Lunch)
Captain Cook's (dinner)
Grand Floridian Cafe (lunch)

I will start on these ASAP!

I'm on board....popcorn:: Congrats on the upgrade, BWI is our favorite resort!

Count me in! At first I didnt want to take pictures either but then I saw alot of people doing it to so I said what the heck. I even have DH trained to NOT TAKE ONE BITE before I can snap a pic! :rotfl:

Looking forward to this one - congrats on the upgrade to Concierge - what a treat!

Looking foward to the reviews! I wouldn't of worried if you had taken pictures, most of the other people in the restaurant probably wouldn't of noticed, and if they had, you probably wouldn't of ever seen them again anyway.

Wow, thanks for all of the replies already! I guess I had better make this good. Now that I am back and looking at my own cooking, I wish that I had taken pictures but there is always next time...

Our first meal of the trip took place at Liberty Tree Tavern. I suppose that you could consider this somewhat of a tradition for us, as we always eat here at 2:00 for a late lunch on our arrival day.
We got to the restaurant at 1:55 and were seated within less than ten minutes. While we were waiting for our party to be called, I noticed that several of the families that were announced were not allowed to be seated as one or more members of their party were missing. Even if a party member was in the restroom, seating could not take place. I suppose I understood that they wanted to turn tables quickly and that goal would be impeded by the seating of partial parties, but I felt that it was a bit odd not to seat someone who had a family member in the restroom! I suppose they must have recycled these names to the bottom of the list, as we did not see them called again before we were seated.
We were seated at a table for two right next to the stairs that lead up to the restroom. Our waiter was prompt about taking our drink order, but did not return with the requested iced teas for some time. I had planned on ordering the appetizer and then having him return for the entrée order, but it took him nearly ten minutes to return with our drinks, so we order both of these things together.
For an appetizer, we ordered the tavern fried cheese. This came out quickly, and though I enjoyed it, there was something about it that made it not as good as I remembered. This appetizer is a combination of regular cheese sticks and fried cheese curds. I thought that the last time we enjoyed this, there was a more distinctive taste between the two in terms of the cheese within, but this time they seemed more similar. The batter used on the outside, however, seemed to be slightly different, the cheese sticks having a beer batter taste in which the beer was so overwhelming I could only eat 1 ½. My boyfriend did not think the taste was that powerful, however. I did not have this problem with the cheese curds, and happily devoured most of these! This dish is good and not too greasy, and several pieces are included for your money. ($5.29)
Our entrees came while we were finishing up our appetizer, as I knew they would when both are ordered together. I had the New England Pot Roast. I always order this, and am always satisfied with my choice. The beef is excellent, and very tender. The sauce is tasty and I enjoy it though I am not a huge fan of sauces. The vegetables are also tender and delicious, and I love the crispy onion straws on top. The portion size on this entrée is large enough that two people could easily share. ($16.99)
BF chose the Tri Corner sandwich, which is roast beef and Swiss cheese with slaw, horseradish, and arugula on top. This was served on herbed focaccia bread and came with a side of fries. This sandwich was huge as well. BF thought that it was good, especially the slaw, but told me that the herbs baked into the bread were overwhelming, making it almost impossible to taste the meat and cheese on the sandwich. I tried a small bite of just the bread and I agreed that the herb taste (I believe it was rosemary) was extremely strong. Even so, BF still finished it all, but said that he would probably not order it again. The fries that came with the sandwich were fresh and tasty. ($11.49)
The service here was a bit spotty. Our drink order was taken almost immediately, but it was a long wait in between ordering our drinks and actually receiving them. Our food arrived from the kitchen fairly quickly after it was ordered and was fresh and hot. We needed refills for our drinks, however, and were unsatisfied with the results. We asked for a refill when our appetizers arrived and though our waiter told us that he would bring it out immediately, we were still waiting when the entrees came out a few minutes later, delivered by another person. We asked this gentleman for a refill as well, and did not receive one until nearly fifteen minutes later. Our waiter was nice enough, and everything else was very smooth, but we were thirsty!
I used the bathroom at Liberty Tree for the very first time, and I must say this is an area that may have been slightly inadequate. The bathroom is up a slightly dark flight and a half of stairs. I was the sixth person in line for two (or three, I don’t remember exactly) stalls, and the baby changing area was shared with the sink area, making it impossible to use the sink while the changing area was in use. Also, there was only one sink, which was difficult to access while people were waiting in line for the stalls due to the configuration of the bathroom. None of this was really a problem for me at all, but I am an able bodied person traveling without children. It could be slightly inconvenient if your situation is different.
As this was our first meal, this was also our first encounter with the dining bills in 2008. We were not on the dining plan, nor do we have the dining experience. When we received our bill, the total was presented as were the amounts of two “suggested” tips, one at 18% and one at 20%. The line for the tip was blank, so it was not necessary to choose either of these tips. I understand that there is a cultural barrier concerning tipping, and assume (perhaps wrongly, and perhaps naively) that this is the purpose of the suggestions. Even so, I found the fact that they were presented at all to be a bit forward. It did not really bother me, but I tip well without such prompting, though I suppose others do not and that is the reason for it.
All in all we enjoyed our meal at Liberty Tree and will definitely return not only in the interest of continuing our tradition, but for a reasonably priced meal in a nice atmosphere with decent food.

Good start. I must admit, I had always fancied eating lunch at LTT but was really disappointed when they took 'The Sandwich that can be heard around the World' (or whatever it was!!!) off the menu so won't be eating there any time soon.

Looking forward to more :)

Great start, love reading about all of the details (good and bad). Looking forward to your next review. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for the replies. I apologize for being so slow: I hate how work and school get in the way of DISsing!

Wilma-Bride, BF was very disappointed that that sandwich was missing from the menu this time. That is what he ordered last year and he had been looking forward to it again. I was a bad DISser, and didn't know it was gone so that I could warn him :headache: .

PIZZAFARI

Well, call us odd or strange or whatever you like, but for some convoluted reason or another, Pizzafari was our first experience ever (in 5 trips for me, 2 for BF) with Counter Service. We like to eat a big meal and graze in general, and we do take advantage of the concierge offerings, so I suppose that this is how we got to this point!

We had planned on eating at the Yak & Yeti counter service location, but when it came time for lunch the menu didn't look all that appetizing. There was nothing wrong with it, it was just not the time, if you know what I mean. We stepped out of line, and stared at our map. BF overheard someone saying how good Flame Tree BBQ is. I informed him that I had heard this as well, but I thought that BBQ sounded disgusting at the moment. Again, no reason why it was just not the time for BBQ.

Our options became somewhat limited with these decisions, and we decided that Pizzafari (and pizza) sounded acceptable. We wandered over that way, dodging the crowds which were still fairly heavy, BF giving me the death glare all the while, as he DOES NOT LIKE CROWDS. He thought that it was dreadful and the park must be nearing capacity :rotfl2: :lmao: . I told him that it was a bit more crowded than I had expected for January 5th, but I was certain the crowds would thin come Monday. Besides, he has never visited MK on 4th of July as I have :scared1: .

After a significant amount of darting and dodging, we managed to make our way inside the restaurant. The reports of beautiful themeing were true. there were animal carvings everywhere and the murals were lovely. Unfortunately, it was difficult to enjoy all of these elements within the madhouse that was 12:30 lunch. What was I thinking :confused3 . We stepped into a long line and waited. It had been a bit cool at WDW for the past few days before our experience, and the fans were still turned off as a result. The air in the holding chamber where you waited to order your food was growing hot and stagnant. BF began to sweat, and I told him to find a table if he would like, as too much heat turns him quickly into Grumpy.

About ten minutes later (with no movement on my part; there was a problem with someone's dining plan credits, it seemed) BF returned, stating that there were no seats available. I told him not to worry, that maybe things would clear up by the time we finally received our food. He wandered outside for a bit then while I remained in line.

Finally, 27 minutes after arriving I was able to order. I asked for two large drinks, a pepperoni pizza ($6.09) for me, and a Hot Italian Style Sandwich with chips ($7.09) for BF. This sandwich has turkey, ham, Swiss and provolone. For toppings, it has pesto marinated tomatoes and Caesar salad.

After ordering, I stepped aside into yet another line to wit for my order. This took an additional 6 minutes, but I choose to believe (perhaps wrongly so) that they were making my food fresh and just for me :goodvibes . BF thinks otherwise, but he was really getting irritated at this point.

We wandered through the restaurant and could not find an available table anywhere. Finally, we tried outdoors on the patio and there were plenty of tables available. As it was such a nice day, I felt this was a good alternative to eating inside. It was far quieter at the outside tables, and a nice breeze was blowing.

After returning inside to get some condiments (there is at least one station for condiments in each of the separate dining rooms, I believe) I sat down to eat. My pizza was fair. It was not great but it wasn't bad either. I am not a grease fan, so I will admit to using one of my napkins to lift some of the excess off of the pizza and then coating it in parmesan to disguise the rest. The pizza wasn't really excessively greasy (I have seen far worse), that is just something that my stomach cannot handle. There was not too much sauce, though, a fair amount of cheese, and a good amount of pepperoni. The pepperoni was just crispy and the cheesy gooey and slightly browned. the crust was medium and the whole thing was nice and warm, so all in all it made for a decent meal (and was large enough that I could not manage to finish it all).

BF really enjoyed his sandwich. A few years ago, we were in Lexington, KY near the Red Mile racetrack and we ate at a little restaurant there that has since changed hands. When we were first there, we ordered a Caesar salad that was made fresh at our table and was absolutely out of this world. Ever since then, we have been spoiled on it, as we compare every Caesar we get to it and none measure up. Well, surprisingly the salad on BFs sandwich was the closest that we have found! It was not the exact same, of course, but it was really very good. I wished I had gotten a side salad after tasting a bite from his sandwich, but was unwilling to battle the crowds again. He enjoyed the rest of the sandwich as well, thinking that it was melted just enough but that the veggies on top were still cool and not wilted as though they had been through the warmer too.

The atmosphere of the restaurant out there on the porch was enjoyable. I don't know that I would have enjoyed eating inside as much as it was so very crowded and extremely noisy. The themeing is good, but as I stated above, it was difficult to enjoy it properly amidst all of the chaos. The dining areas were also strewn with a degree of trash and other debris, but the place was mobbed, and the CMs were doing their best to keep it clean. I always bring wet wipes to use on the table though before even setting down my plate or napkin, so I felt a little better.

I think our first CS experience went well, and we were please with the meal. It was bit pricy, perhaps, but it could have been far worse and the food was good enough. This is a restaurant we will most likely return to.

Just call in sick! Dont they know how important Dis'ing is? :lmao:
