Hi - just returned from 7 nights at Old Key West - it was lovely and we had a great time despite the heat. We were actually in Orlando for a dance competition, but hit the parks a few times and tried to have down time at the pool and check out some other resorts to keep things slow.

Tried to sample places we had not tried before:

El Pirata y El Perico - Lunch for 2 adults/2 kids. This was one of the best meals we had and very reasonably priced. The kids meals consisted of a full-size adult taco with meat and cheese only, plus apple sauce and a drink. They loved them. DH had tacos and I had the taco salad, which was a nice change.

Yachtsman Steakhouse - Dinner for 3 adults - very expensive, but part of that was due to the bottle of wine we split. I had planned my parents 50th anniversary dinner for 16 here back in December and we enjoyed it so much we wanted to go back. It wasn't as good as I had remembered, but still a decent meal. My favorite items on the menu are the spinach salad, and the onion rolls they serve with the roasted garlic that can be spred on them. The steak I had was cooked perfectly, but I blundered by getting the oe with the bleu cheese sauce - just too rich.

1900 Park Fare character breakfast - Favorite buffet items are the southwest style eggs (scrambled eggs with cheese, salsa and onion) and the biscuits and gravy. DD and DS loved the french toast sticks. Mary Poppins spent a lot of time with both before we entered, and all of the characters inside came around a few times (Alice, Mad Hatter, Pooh, Eyeore). Alice was quite chatty and I think DS(2) got a crush on her! This was our only character meal and I don't think we'll do breakfast for them anymore - for the 4 of us it was $50, and we just aren't big enough breakfast people to warrant it. Dinner is probably a better call, but that's just us.

Cosmic Ray's - Tomorrowland Lunch - Call me crazy but I love this place. I just think the burgers are really good and we love the topping bar (the mushrooms are the best!) The kids each had the nugget meal with fries (could have opted for carrots) and applesauce. They both enjoy the "show" and it's a nice cool (A/C) place to take a break. I hopped out to the ice cream cart for Mickey Bars all around before we finished up - better to eat them in the air conditioning than out in the 95 degree heat!

EPCOT - Japan - Teppanyaki for Dinner - We had not tried anything in EPCOT since Rose & Crown several years ago, so this sounded good. It was just the grown-ups, and we each had the filet with a side order of shrimp. The filet was wonderful - we were on the fence about the filet or the sirloin, but once we saw the sirloin it was an easy call. Just looked like it would get too "done" and chewy. Living on Okinawa for 3 years, I like my teppanyaki, and this was pretty good, I must say. I also had the sushi sampler, which was just enough to whet the appetite. The rice was perfectly sticky, and the accompanying veggies were great. Total bill for the two of us was $100 - partly because of my Tokyo Sunset frou-frou drink, which was dangerously easy to drink down WAY too fast!

Olivia's - OKW Dinner - It was easy to walk in and grab a table without any plans for our last night, but we probably won't do it again. The recommendation of the waiter was pretty good (penne pasta) but overall service was slow (my daughter's grilled cheese came out our meal but my son's chicken fingers were 10 minutes behind for some reason), and our appetizer dip was obviously fried in the microwave before being served. Nothing egregious, but we thought the counter service meals we had at the parks was better, for relative weighting of value.....

Good's - OKW Lunch - This, on the other hand, was a good value. The food was hot and obviously freshly prepared for us. This was handy by the pool.

Enjoy!

For sharing your reviews I enjoyed reading them. :goodvibes

I agree with you about Olivia's. It is "adequate" but certainly not worth a drive if you are not staying at OKW. We had some good snacks at Goods also.

I really want to try Yachtsman's Steakhouse.

Thanks for the reviews!

One interesting note - everytime I called Dining Services to make an AR, one of the first questions I was asked was "am I on a Dining Plan" - we were not, and I was concerned that I was getting the dregs of time choices or was being penalized in some way because of it. After reading the other thread about feeling the opposite of that when someone WAS on the dining plan, I had to laugh!

flexsmom, thanks for the report.

BTW, I agree I think the burgers at Cosmic Rays taste so good. :flower:

What kind of show is here? We ate here last May and it was a mechanincal alien thing with a keyboard, but I thought I read somewhere that they took this out. Is that not true?

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for posting.
