Dining Question......

Hi All,

I originally posted this on the restaurant board, and they suggested I check here - I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I am a gastric bypass patient.
DH and I are headed to the world in September, and he and I were discussing where he would like me to make reservations to.

By then, I will be 13 month post-op and I should be able to eat a little more than I can now, but I still want to be cautious.

My question is this - will the chef at most table service restaurants make "special" accommodations for me if I request them?

Is it recommended that I put something in the "notes" section of the reservation confirmations noting that there may be some small modifications needed?
I don't mean anything too far out - just smaller portions, maybe tweak the food a little if need be. My stomach is super sensitive to a lot of things and I don't want to feel "ewwy" (as my nephew says) while in the world....
I will have to pay for the dining plan regardless - I just won't be eating nearly as much as I did on our last trip

You can ask to speak to the chef in any of the table service restaurants to explain what you need. I would suggest asking your server when he/she comes to the table for an introduction.

For buffets, you would be able to choose how much you take. If you have questions about any of the foods, you can request the chef to walk you through the foods.

At 13 months out you should have a good idea of what works and does not work for you.

you will have the option of sharing from your DH's meal except at buffets, shows and special events so you do not feel that you are "wasting food and DDP credits". If yo still want or need to eat more than 3 times a day this can be helpful if your DH is OK with this schedule. (you need to alternate names when doing reservations so they do not get cancelled as "doubles".

then you can give him some of what you are eating from your own regular meal. If you can eat 25% of what Disney will serve you for your regular portion from them then hubby can eat some from your plate, too. I would give my dessert away.

The chef will help you, too and as mentioned you can split meals with him if he's a light eater. In that case you can do more TS meals at Disney.

I had no idea we could share a TS meal while at Disney - good to know! Definitely a good idea
How would I do that exactly? Just tell the server we're "splitting a main course"

I have a card from my surgeon requesting that I be allowed to get "smaller portions" etc.

I as also considering seeing if I could do the kids dining plan, but there aren't a lot of "healthy" options at most places that I've read menus on.

I don’t think they would let you do that and you would have a lot fewer options on the kids dining plan.

One thing to think about is whether it makes sense for your family to do the dining plan. It makes much more sense for people who are bigger eaters. We’ve never done the dining plan because we would not eat enough for it to pay.

If it is just you and the DH you may be better off doing OOP. You would be able to just nibble off his plate and/or just get a little something. When I paid out of pocket 10/09 I was only charged as a child at buffets when I showed my card from the GS.
