Dining prices for UK based traveller...

Hi.

Thinking of going to disneyworld florida next year and looking at the Disney Dining Plan it seems to be very expensive.

For one adult and one child it is £895 for the Deluxe. If i add a second child it virtually doubles to £1567 . If i then add a 3rd child it goes upto £2239, which i gather is around $3574


Is it cheaper to just buy my food there..? I think the exchange rate is around 1.5$ for every £1.

I have had a look for prices for breakfast, lunch and dinner etc, but don't seem to be having much luck.

Any advice is appreciated.

were flying from manchester september 2012 and were using the counter service plan. we find that it works for us with 2 counter service meals and 2 snacks each day. we have used the dining plan before but it was a nightmare deciding where you were going to be to eat every day 6 months before you go. i would never dream of using the delux plan, 3 reasons 1 its just too much planning and messing about,2 its so blooming expensive and 3 it really is far too much food . to get value from the delux plan you really do need to be eating at the table service restaurant for 3 meals every day of your visit.

Try allears.net. They have menus with prices under the "Walt Disney World" tab, then dining tab.

If you can glance through and pretend where you would have eaten in each park, you can get an idea of how much each meal would cost.

If you are staying offsite/have a car, you can eat for less at various restaurants off the WDW property, at the "cost" of additional travel time.

If you are just trying to compare the price of eating oop in WDW versus the dining plan, use the menus with prices at allears.net.

I think there are 2 comparisons to make. First, IF you were eating in the same manner the dining plan provides (CS & TS meals including beverage and dessert) figure what your oop cost would be and then compare it to the dining plan cost. Next, figure out whether you would like to eat in the manner the dining plans provide, or whether there are special considerations like having a child under age 10 who always wants a full adult meal, or that you never want a beverage with your meal except water, or you never eat desserts (oh, what a sad thought.......). The dining plans may not be how you would "normally" eat (especially the dessert part) but if they would help to make it a fun vacation, then go for it. If the cost comparison would not work for you, then pay oop.

There may be significant "sticker shock" at the prices, but if you just compare both in dollars you can figure out the difference and then convert the final figure to pounds.

And think very, very hard before you commit to the Deluxe Dining Plan. It seems to work best for people who have been to WDW multiple times and who are making food a major part of their vacation rather than maximizing their park time. If you have not been to WDW, or at least not for many years, I would recommend either the regular DDP or the QSDP plus paying oop for a few select TS meals - maybe 1 character breakfast, 1 TS lunch, and 1 special TS dinner or dinner show.

Have you seen the offers for UK visitors for 2012?

Free dining is being offered for large parts of 2012 - free ddp with deluxe resorts and free qsdp with moderate.

For my dates in October 2012 14 days in a studio at old key west (deluxe villa resort) is coming in at £1500 inc free ddp - that is the price for 4 people.

Try getting a quote off complete orlando or the wdw website (complete orlando are a few hundred cheaper at the moment)
