Is the dining plan a good idea if we plan on doing Character Meals once a day? Won't that burn up 2 meals each day? It seems like we'd still have to end up paying for our meals by the end of the trip?
Anyone know>?

the only character meal that is 2 credits is CRT. The rest are just 1 TS credit, so you will only be using 1 TS credit with those. Its a good deal because it includes both your tax and your tip.

Wow! Wish I would have understood that better when we just went! LOL
We would have saved with the dining plan, then. (I guess we eat a lot?!)

We were just there and did a gazillion character meals. We were on the DDP, and I think we saved a ton of money. However, if we had NOT done so many character meals, I'm not sure that the DDP would have been a good value for us.

And yes, CRT takes up 2 credits, but the rest do not. Our faves were the Epcot Storybook Princess Breakfast, 1900 Park Fare dinner with Cinderella, Playhouse Disney breakfast at MGM, Chef Mickey's for dinner, and, of course, CRT. Lunch with Pooh at the Crystal Palace was just OK. We also did (and LOVED!) the Perfectly Princess Tea with Sleeping Beauty, but that is not covered by the DDP.

It's a great deal especially when you want to do character meals:thumbsup2 We did that on our last trip and saved big. We loved the Crystal Palace for dinnerpooh: :tigger:, 1900 Park Fare for dinnerprincess:, and Chef Mickey's for breakfast and dinnerpluto: :goofy: ::MickeyMo :donald: ::MinnieMo. The princess lunch at Akershus was great for the charactersprincess: but the food was a bit to Norwegian for my DH. The kids meals were fine, but my husband isn't very adventurous and hated the food. I have been told by a friend that it is great for breakfast though. I would say of all of them Chef Mickey's was our favorite because there's a lot of action and to me it was more relaxed with the kids. There is a lot that goes on so it's not as noticeable if the kids get a little overly excited. Of course with the dancing, music and napkin twirling that is a part of the experience there, I could see where some people might not like that aspect of it. My kids loved it and we are planning to go back when we're there over spring break to do our DD birthday party:bday: party:

A bonus to the DDP is that you get a lot of food so you can share meals in some cases, though not at the buffets, and make your meals stretch:cool1:. It's really easy to do for lunches like at Peos Bill's and Pizzafari where the larger burgers and the pizzas are big enough to split in half (and you get dessert with them too), and when you are on the move a lot you don't want a huge filling meal mid day to slow you down. We could then use 2 CS meals instead of 4 and use those extra meals for another day. Another thing I was impressed with, at our resort CS restaurant we had to endure a really really long wait to get our desserts. The cashier noticed how long it was taking and how frustrated my DH and I were getting and told her manager. He in turn came over to me apologized and asked for my card, when he came back he told me he had refunded me the 4 CS meals we had used:woohoo: . We brought food with us from home for breakfast since the DDP only gives you 2 meals and a snack, and with the refunded meal we were able to have another breakfast out (we got in later in the day the first night and had to only use the CS meal that day so we tok our extra TS meal and did breakfast at Chef Mickey's):goodvibes . For us it was a really great way to do the meals, and like someone else said they're paid for before you go:cheer2:. If we hadn't done that my husband, like hers, would have been pitching a fit about the prices :scared1: and we wouldn't have gone to half the the places we did./

gosh if they were each 2 ts credits I'd need a loan for what I just booked! Liberty Tree, Hollywood and Vine, Chef Mickey's, 1900 Park Fare I also thought they were 2ts credits for awhile! :cool1:

I think your question has been answered but just wanted to let you know on the restaurant forum there's a whole section on the dining plan. FYI...

:)

Thank you everyone! Wow, we will do the dining plan for sure next time! I am so excited, but I don't think I can arrange another trip until next November!!! (my birthday at least). My husband will think I'm crazy, but I am totally hooked.
Especially while the kids are so young that they believe it all! Every character is REAL to them!
Bean even said "WOW mom, I NEVER would have thought Piglet was so BIG!"

We went March 06 and used the DDP and did character meals. Not all the meals use two. Our travel agent gave us a print out that showed which were character meals and how many credits were used and we went by that.

I love the dining plan!! It costs my family of four approximately 100.00 a day for the plan. Our dinner alone costs that!! Just a meal like a McDonalds extra value meal for a family of four will cost you close to 40.00. Well worth the price ESPECIALLY is you are doing a lot of character dining.
